Aerospace engineers advance space exploration and improve aircraft design. Aerospace and defense is one of the strongest industrial sectors in the United States; Arizona is a significant player, and the University of Arizona is a major pipeline for aerospace engineers. Students in the Aerospace Engineering Bachelor of Science program learn to design and maintain spacecraft, commercial aircraft, fighter jets, missiles, rockets and satellites. They graduate with working knowledge of aerodynamics, control system design, gas dynamics, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. Undergraduates complete industry-sponsored capstone projects, some of which become commercial products. The Biosphere emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science explores the interactions of microbes, plants, animals and humans with their physical and chemical environment. Students learn how to apply biological principles to biodiversity while gaining a broad understanding of habitat conservation, restoration and rehabilitation. Field experience tailored to students' interests arms them with the expertise, confidence and connections to critically evaluate and address sustainable management and remediation of the environment. Explore the concepts of ecology and genetics in an evolutionary context in the first department of its kind in the world. The field of ecology and evolutionary biology deals with the integration of biological systems across all levels of organization, from molecular biology to global ecosystems. This Bachelor of Science is for the student planning to pursue graduate study or a career in ecology and evolutionary biology, or a related scientific field. The Bachelor of Arts prepares students for careers that require having scientific knowledge, such as scientific journalism, developing environmental and scientific policy or practicing law in related fields. The curriculum includes core courses in genetics, ecology and evolution, with additional study through involvement in independent research, usually by working in the labs of our faculty. Students also have access to certain field courses.

The Animal Sciences Bachelor of Science offers an Equine emphasis. Equine science is the study of horses and their care. During this program, students acquire practical, hands-on equine handling techniques; learn about equine nutrition, physiology and anatomy; and develop business strategy skills. Additional skills honed include critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and a basic understanding of business principles and how they apply to equine enterprises. This program equips students for careers in equine health, industry sales, equine management, research and teaching. Faculty and mentors associated with the program challenge students to apply their studies to address real-world challenges in the animal industry and agribusiness.

If you want an immersion in Spanish dedicated to the scientific study of the language, consider the Hispanic Linguistics emphasis.  Linguistics is the study of language, including its structure, organization, sounds and meaning. In addition to language proficiency, students seeking their Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Hispanic Linguistics emphasis gain a thorough understanding of Spanish language framework. Classes in phonetics, morphosyntax, sociolinguistics and more teach students how the brain formulates and organizes Spanish. These courses provide a foundation for application to pedagogical issues in teaching the language as well as societal challenges in bilingual communities. Spanish majors seeking total language immersion also have opportunities to study abroad in Costa Rica, Spain and Chile. Graduates find roles in language education and other rewarding fields.

Students earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts receive a broad-based education of the theatrical arts. Students learn to appreciate the relationship of dramatic text to theatrical production; understand the working practices and standards of the professional theatre; communicate artistic intent through acting, directing, design and research; and learn how to organize resources to facilitate the theatrical production process. Coursework stresses critical thinking in verbal and written communication; employs theatre as a lens through which to examine cultural trends; encourages students to develop projects that merge theory and practical applications; and explores the vitality of theatre as a communal expression of gender and cultural diversity.

Gain an understanding of global interactions between nations for a career involved in human rights, diplomacy, security, and war and peace. Political science is the study of government, public policy and the political behavior of individuals and groups. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program with an emphasis in International Relations graduate with a broad knowledge of the foundations, history and dynamics of politics in the U.S. and around the globe. Most importantly, they understand the unique relationships between the U.S. and other countries. Students take courses in political theory, foreign affairs, socio-political issues, and ideas and methods. They're also encouraged to acquire a double major or a minor in a secondary language. Fieldwork includes opportunities to intern at nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

Students seeking their Bachelor of Music in Performance with a String Bass emphasis take 89 units of music courses. In addition to choosing electives, students satisfy core classes in music literature, music history, pedagogy, orchestration, conducting, piano and applied lessons. As part of the requirements, they audition for placement in a large conducted ensemble, where they'll have the opportunity to perform with other high-caliber student musicians.
