Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Founded in 1975 and led by a renowned faculty, the Gender and Women's Studies department at the University of Arizona stands at the forefront of feminist research and curriculum. The Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary program that works to contest historical, ongoing and pervasive oppression based on gender, race, sexuality, class, ability and citizenship. Students earning the Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in Euphonium can take advantage of the Fred Fox School of Music's two concert bands, a select wind ensemble, two jazz bands, numerous jazz combos and a large and challenging orchestra program. In addition to these performance opportunities, students benefit from personalized attention and instruction. This includes a weekly lesson, a studio class, daily warm-ups and technique classes, plus ensemble and chamber coaching. The School of Music averages between 450 and 550 students, which provides opportunities that are typically only offered at larger schools of music.

Middle East and North African Studies employs an interdisciplinary approach to learning about all aspects of this region. The Bachelor of Arts focuses on instruction in the principal languages of the area (Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Hebrew) and includes coursework in religion, political science, history, literature, geography, sociology, archaeology, linguistics and architecture. Students seek degrees in this department out of a genuine interest in this part of the world, often on a professional path to government service, academics, a position in international business or as preparation for advanced study in this or other fields.

  • Students who earn a BA in MENAS will be able to identify the major historical periods, figures, and movements that have shaped the Middle East and North Africa from 600 C.E. to the present.
  • Students who earn a BA in MENAS will be able to compare and contrast the various social, cultural, religious, geographic and linguistic milieus of the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Students who earn a BA in MENAS will be able to critically evaluate popular, political and/or media discussions of the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Students who earn a BA in MENAS will be able to analyze and synthesize information from primary and secondary sources in order to develop and write a research paper.
  • Students who earn a BA in MENAS will be able to achieve proficiency at the intermediate level in one of the languages of the Middle East and North Africa (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish). Communicative proficiency is defined in accordance with the Standards for foreign language learning as developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). These are further analyzed below: i. To communicate in Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) languages, both orally and in writing, by engaging in interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational communication activities (Communication). ii. Explore the foundations of criminal justice ?thoroughly examining critical topics such as mental health law, youth in the justice system, public policy and national security. Criminal Justice Studies touches on all factors related to crime, the law and the justice system. Coursework introduces students to police, court and corrections operations; crime and public policy; juvenile justice; mental health law; white-collar crime; national security; and intelligence policies. Sponsored by the Rombach Institute on Crime, Delinquency and Corrections, this Bachelor of Science program helps students develop the ability to think critically about criminal justice issues, a necessity in an increasingly complex and politicized society. No matter the medium television, websites, publications through which news travels, it's trained journalists who bring truth to power and the people. Journalism is the field of researching and reporting the news through a variety of media. This Bachelor of Arts introduces students to the fundamentals of journalism, including important aspects of the field such as law and ethics. Students learn to gather information, interview subjects, analyze the content, distill it and then communicate to an audience effectively, accurately, quickly and ethically. While students get exposure to all aspects of journalism, they can also specialize in broadcast or global journalism, even opting for coursework in digital media, such as drone videography or app development, to further prepare them for this always-changing field. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required.
