At the Fred Fox School of Music, students enjoy close interaction with the esteemed faculty, all of whom are artists in their own right and who've performed at the world's greatest concert halls and received numerous accolades as musicians. Students can audition for the Harp Studio, which offers weekly private lessons, a studio class, the study of harp pedagogy, orchestral coaching, mock auditions and master classes with guest artists. Students can take advantage of opportunities to arrange, compose, record and tour with HarpFusion. Upon graduation, students are equipped for roles as performing artists, teachers, administrators and music scholars.

In today's digital world, where information is disseminated in seconds, a journalist's role is that of truth-seeker for the masses. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Global Journalism equips students for careers in national and international news reporting. In addition to learning the building blocks of good journalism (law, ethics, information gathering, effective and accurate communication), they also explore the complex and sensitive nuances of reporting on and about diverse cultures and foreign countries. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required. In the Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies program, students select from one of two focuses in language or culture. The Chinese Language Intensive focus provides instruction on three levels, from beginning to advanced, plus specialized instruction in advanced reading, writing and conversation. Students learn to communicate effectively and read proficiently.  The department offers a summer study abroad program in Hangzhou, where students learn about China's dynamic Buddhist tea culture while staying in a monastery connected to the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.
