The Master of Urban Design – Future Cities (MUD) educates the next generation of urban designers, architects and researchers in the development of sustainable, healthy and smart cities and communities. Focused on envisioning the future, the program spotlights pressing contemporary issues with far-reaching consequences, such as the need to develop urban resiliency and carbon neutral communities and to harness the potential of smart technologies to achieve environmental wellness on multiple scales in response to rapid urbanization and climate change. The Sustainable Design program at Thomas Jefferson University was developed by a group of the country’s top sustainable designers and experienced sustainability professors. The result is an award-winning trans-disciplinary, collaborative design program. Students build problem-solving skills to develop market-driven solutions to become leaders in sustainable design to better serve society.

Our professors are comprised of theory-based full-time faculty and practicing professionals with diverse backgrounds in architecture, engineering, design, sustainability leadership, and construction management. Based on an integrated design education model, the program offers a unique advantage by introducing students early in the design process to experts, design options and real-world constraints.

Projects range from high performing sustainable design projects to sustainable initiatives for non-profits and start-ups. Industry partnerships feature prominently, providing networking opportunities and hands-on practice with real-world challenges. Strong integration with the design and sustainability community in Philadelphia provides students and graduates ample opportunities for internships, volunteer positions, and job placement.

The M.S. in Architecture program is an advanced post-professional, research- based degree, featuring two concentrations: Façade Design and Technology and High Performance Building. This degree prepares students for specialist and consulting positions in the broad field of the built environment in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.

Recognizing that the architecture profession is constantly changing, the program is designed to fit current industry needs and is adaptable as requirements and expertise evolves. As a student in this program, you will have the opportunity to focus your studies on a specific area of architecture to directly apply your research to your current work or to fit your career path. The MS provides its graduates with an additional credential that enables them to pursue research and entrepreneurial practices, careers in academia or expand the knowledge of the profession. It is expected that students will have previous experience in the technical and professional aspects of building design with a degree in architecture, engineering or other related field. The typical program length is three or four semesters.

When you come to Thomas Jefferson University, you join a fashion design program that is modeled on the fashion industry and you should prepare to immerse yourself in the world of fashion. You will be transformed into a fashion design professional through hands-on experience with computerized design and production equipment while also building a strong foundation in design and technical courses.

During your time at Thomas Jefferson University, you will also have the opportunity to add an international dimension to your education by participating in our study abroad programs at international fashion centers like London and Rome, or through short courses in other fashion hubs around the world. The TJU fashion design program prepares you to influence the fashion design world. Our alumni work as fashion professionals in all areas and levels of the fashion industry, following in the footsteps of our distinguished faculty who have served as leaders in both the design and production sides of the fashion industry. The new transformational (12 months) 36-credit Master’s Degree Program in Biopharmaceutical Process Engineering will be delivered at the Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) and is ideal for employment focused graduates with first degrees in Life Sciences and Engineering.

The Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB) is a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the art facility designed for the training of industry professionals, as well as the education of the next generation of scientists and engineers interested in pursuing rewarding careers in biomanufacturing. Biopharmaceutical Processing is a rapidly growing industry focused on the development of robust processes to manufacture high value biologics and advanced therapeutics for patients with debilitating and life limiting diseases that affect millions of patients worldwide, such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.

Training and education in biopharmaceutical processing are exceptionally laboratory intensive. At JIB our students spend less time in traditional classroom settings and more time in JIB’s pilot-scale facility fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and processes used by industry to manufacture biopharmaceuticals.

For the hybrid option, the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 schedule for courses requiring the completion of on-site hands-on laboratory related coursework will be available prior to the start of each respective semester. In each instance, the on-site coursework will be scheduled in continuous late-semester blocks to avoid the necessity of frequent travel.

For students who want a competitive edge, valuable connections, and real-world experience in the evolving fashion industry, the M.S. in Global Fashion Enterprise (MSGFE) program expands the career horizons of forward-thinking professionals with diverse backgrounds in fashion design, merchandising, management, and other industries. Students benefit from a focus on global fashion development and an appreciation of apparel ecosystems throughout the value chain. Graduates of Thomas Jefferson University, which is ranked in the top 20 fashion schools in the world by Business of Fashion, and the MSGFE program possess the skills, knowledge and industry networks to bring value-added innovation to the fashion industry and to manage a thriving global fashion enterprise successfully.

Jefferson's active, collaborative approach to education in our Nexus Learning model is the foundation of this program’s curriculum. In a hands-on learning environment, students examine new fashion designs, ideas and technologies to create viable business models and market-driven innovation. In addition to the 22 core credit hours, the MSGFE program culminates in 9 credits of Global Fashion Project courses. This unique experience allows for significant customization for students to meet career aspirations. In these courses, students from disparate backgrounds work in teams to find new product or system opportunities, then design and prototype functional products or systems that answer the requirements of their research findings. Students also benefit from the projects by working directly with successful fashion and apparel companies. Regular meetings with outside project stakeholders take place to give students networking opportunities that may translate into exciting internship and employment opportunities.

Full-time students can earn their degree in only 12 months–an excellent option to immediately follow undergraduate programs. Part-time students can study on a schedule that accommodates their career and earn their graduate degree in as few as 24 months to achieve their next career goal.

The Master of Science Program in Cell & Developmental Biology prepares its graduates for positions in research and development in academia, industry and government. Graduates may be employed as basic research scientists in academic institutions and industrial positions, or may go on to further study in PhD and professional doctoral programs.

This program consists of a core basic science curriculum in cell and developmental biology, supplemented with elective courses suited to individual career interests in the basic sciences or in management. Students in our program receive training in theoretical, experimental and practical aspects of normal cell development as well as abnormal aspects of these processes, which may cause birth defects or disease.
The program may be completed on a part-time or accelerated (coursework) schedule over a period of 1.5 to four years. Courses are offered late afternoon/early evening and meet once per week, allowing students the flexibility to work while taking classes or devote their full attention to their studies. Flexibility is the key.

Cytotechnologists are responsible for the study and evaluation of human cells sampled from all organs and body fluids. Professionals in this field have the skills to detect and interpret features representative of malignant and non-malignant diseases, including cancer, infectious disease, and autoimmune disorders. In addition to being experts in the microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens, cytotechnologists also select and perform molecular and immunologic tests necessary for development of personalized patient care.

The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program is grounded in the belief that the interior designer mediates between the human experience and the built environment and should enter the global marketplace as articulate, creative, inspired and socially aware design professionals. The program integrates collaborative, interdisciplinary and study abroad opporunities broadening students' knowledge and abilities.
