Thomas Jefferson University’s Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) is a five-year professional degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Students receive an industry-centered, liberal arts-infused education, blending academic scholarship with hands-on, professional learning. The program encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, and most of our faculty members are practicing industry professionals. As architectural practices evolve rapidly to meet new environmental, economic and societal challenges, our curriculum’s unique focus on market-driven innovation and sustainability gives students a competitive advantage in the industry. The program builds on an interdisciplinary foundation of design and visualization studies and grows into more advanced courses that support design projects of increasing complexity and scope.

Students learn essential research skills and can take focused courses in experimental structures and materials, furniture design, design theory, construction management, historic preservation, business, and more. Instruction goes beyond the classroom to include industry partnerships, community engagement projects, study abroad, and internships with architectural firms in Philadelphia. As a transformative force in professional education, Jefferson gives students a working knowledge of the industry so they may contribute to a firm immediately, present work professionally, and think critically. Graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles as stewards of sustainability and to work with top firms worldwide.

Cardiac sonographers, also known as echocardiographers, use ultrasound to examine the heart's chambers, walls, valves and vessels. They use technology such as sophisticated diagnostic ultrasound imaging machines and transducers that use high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images to complete important tasks, such as:

• Acquiring information related to the heart's anatomy and physiology
• Producing real-time images of cardiac structures to assist the physician in diagnosing cardiovascular disease
• Evaluating acquired and congenital cardiac abnormalities and associated complications
• Evaluating narrowed or leaking heart valves
• Looking for causes of murmurs, chest pain, shortness of breath
• Tracking and evaluating chronic heart conditions

Cardiac sonographers work directly with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages in predominantly noninvasive procedures, carried out in small, low-lit rooms. They stand or sit beside the patient, who is on a stretcher, exam table or wheelchair. Sometimes the cardiac sonographer will transport a portable ultrasound to a patient's room and perform the test there.

We investigate issues and institutions through the lenses of law, sociology, criminology, psychology, ethics, economics, culture, science, history, politics and political science. We build critical thinking skills and communications skills while we effectively debate. We actively examine legal systems, courts and conceptions of justice and human rights within both the American and international contexts. We examine and discover the reliable evidence while weeding through the false narratives and fake news

Vascular sonographers or vascular (vascular ultrasound) technologists use sophisticated diagnostic ultrasound imaging machines and transducers that use high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images, to record:

• Vascular blood flow
• Blood pressure
• Limb volume changes
• Oxygen saturation
• Cerebral circulation
• Peripheral circulation
• Abdominal circulation

They also assist physicians in diagnosing disorders of the vascular system and acquire information related to blood vessel anatomy and physiology: cerebral, peripheral and abdominal circulation.

They stand or sit beside the patient, who is on a stretcher, exam table or wheelchair. Sometimes the vascular sonographer will transport a portable ultrasound to a patient's room and perform the test there.

Jefferson’s M.S. in Geospatial Technology for Geodesign leverages GIS and advanced geospatial technologies in identifying and finding innovative solutions to urban design and urban planning problems. Emphasizing GIS-based tools, 3D parametric design and modeling, sustainable design approaches, collaboration and innovation within an integrated process, this STEM-designated graduate program is intended to empower students to find resilient solutions to 21st century urban challenges resulting from population growth, decreasing resources, natural disasters, and climate change. Geodesign is sustainability in practice, and our graduates are leaders in this innovative field.

Geospatial technology for geodesign students are directly involved in collaborative applied research projects with industry partners, state and federal agencies, and community partnerships. They work with advanced technologies including parametric 3D modeling, spatial data collection using emerging technologies such as LiDAR, UAVs (drones), UAV-based photogrammetry, advanced geospatial mobile applications, and BIM while they help develop and test new tools that inform future industry software. Graduates possess highly sought-after GIS skills and are well prepared for dynamic careers in interdisciplinary firms, state and federal agencies, NGOs, academia and more.

The MS in Geospatial Technology for Geodesign is a 36-credit post professional degree open to those interested in GIS and the allied design disciplines: architecture, landscape architecture, planning and engineering, as well as students with backgrounds or interest in GIS. Classes are offered on a full-time or part-time basis and are held in the evenings and Saturdays in order to meet the needs of our professional students.

The Master of Science in Microbiology & Immunology Program offers choices for career specialization with flexible schedules, professional training for academic credit and academic preparation for national professional certification.

The broad-based curriculum includes a minimum of 40 credits. Course content includes:

• The biology of microorganisms
• Immunology
• Epidemiology
• Pathology
• Biostatistics
• Management
• Clerkship

Master's research thesis or, alternatively, a Non-Thesis Option
The program may be completed on a part-time or accelerated (coursework) schedule over a period of 1.5 to four years. Courses are offered late afternoon/early evening and meet once per week, allowing students the flexibility to work while taking classes or devote their full attention to their studies. Flexibility is the key. .

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologists use non-ionizing radio frequency electromagnetic waves (low-energy electromagnetic waves in conjunction with a magnetic field) to generate image contrast and create a 3-dimensional image of a part of the body. MRI technologists operate MRI and related auxiliary equipment, perform venipuncture and communicate with radiologists, members of the health care team, patients and their families.

MRI technologists work directly with healthy and critically ill inpatients and outpatients of all ages. They must be able to move and lift patients from exam tables to and from MRI scanning rooms, sit at computer consoles in a small, low-lit room and adhere to safety policies working in or near a magnetic field.

To perform/assist with MRI procedures on patients, students must initially under­go the same screening procedures as patients in order to enter the scan room. The MRI scan room contains a region of intense magnetic field. Objects that dis­play any form of ferromagnetism are therefore of particular concern for MRI. Contraindications for entering the MRI scan room include:

• Certain biomedical implants, materials, and devices (e.g., aneurysm clips, brain clips)
• Certain electrically, magnetically and mechanically activated implants and devices (e.g., cardiac pacemakers, cochlear implants)
• Certain metallic foreign objects (e.g., shrapnel, bullets, metal in eyes)

MRI students must be re-screened for MRI safety clearance, should their status change during the academic year, with regard to any potentially hazardous implants, devices, or objects, prior to MRI rotations or observations.

The M.S. in Engineering program is intended to develop graduate students’ knowledge in the advanced fields.

The program offers a wide range of engineering science courses that prepare students to make significant contributions in advanced manufacturing technologies. The carefully integrated educational offerings at the University enable the student to be exposed to a wide range of professional education possibilities in their selected fields of specialization. A capstone thesis based project is required at the completion of program.

The M.S. in Interior Architecture is a 49 or 69-credit graduate program structured to meet the needs of students from both non-design, design and architecture backgrounds seeking one of the best professional-level education in interior design/interior architecture. The program offers up to one year of advanced standing for those already in the field who are interested in refining their knowledge and skills at the graduate level. This program prepares students to reach their full potential, whether seeking an introduction or building on previous experience.

As an Interior Architecture program, we emphasize how the interior environment encompasses all parts of the interior volume and acknowledges the intersection between architecture and interiors. The curriculum integrates theory with the technical skills needed for practical application and immerses students in current technologies and sustainable practice as they work collaboratively and think critically to discover innovative solutions.
