The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) prepares undergraduate students for a variety of exciting and challenging career opportunities including: preschool teaching; administering programs for young children, adolescents, and adults; parent education; mental health services; child advocacy; and cooperative extension. Senior HDFS interns have been placed in outstanding work settings throughout the United States such as Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, the Children's Television Workshop/Sesame Street, Walt Disney World, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Interns have also been placed in many local schools, counseling centers, social service agencies, court systems, and assisted living facilities for seniors.

Industrial and systems engineers design and improve processes to make work safer, faster, easier and more rewarding in manufacturing, service industries, entertainment companies, shipping and logistics businesses and healthcare organizations. Whether shortening a rollercoaster line, streamlining an operating room, distributing products worldwide or manufacturing superior automobiles, industrial and systems engineers face the challenge and common goal of saving money and increasing efficiency.

By using the right combinations of human and natural resources, fabricated structures, information technologies and manufactured equipment, industrial and systems engineers look at the big picture of what makes organizations work best.

In every business or organization, the ability to write, think, and communicate clearly is a powerful commodity. Our Bachelor of Arts in English-professional and public writing prepares you to communicate in the world of work. You’ll learn editing and document design practices, linguistic and rhetorical analyses, and writing for specialized audiences. You’ll work with real clients both inside and outside of the university and develop a professional portfolio.

Supply chain management is the oversight of the flow of goods and services—a simple definition for a complex system. Supply chain management involves planning and the execution of processes that enable the flow of goods and services, inventory management, logistics, storage, transportation and risk management—all of which enable business success.

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design is a flexible, multi-disciplinary degree. The degree content includes:

• Five core environmental design courses
• Directed electives
• Free electives

Students are encouraged to use the free electives to earn one or two minors.

Two summers of coursework are required for the environmental design workshop series. The degree is a good option for students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in design, planning, and construction-related programs.

The agricultural communications major combines the study of agricultural sciences, practices and policy with the study of communications media and methods. Professional communicators in agriculture are vital to relaying crucial scientific or technical information from scientists to producers to businesses to consumers. As an agricultural communicator, your career may be in mass media, advertising, public relations, sales and marketing or government.

What you’ll Study
As an agricultural communications major, you’ll take basic agriculture classes as well as chemistry and biology to ensure your understanding of agricultural issues. You’ll also take a variety of classes through the School of Communications and Journalism and the English Department, including public relations, marketing, journalism, radio, television, film, digital media and technical writing. The major requires an internship or journalism workshop.

Today’s consumers want the news in every form—on their phone, in a podcast, through social media, on television. With a Bachelor of Arts in journalism, you’ll learn how to research and report news and information across all platforms, both digital and traditional. You can specialize in broadcast, community, digital technology, entrepreneurial/business, health and science, investigative, magazine, sports, or visual journalism. And you’ll receive additional hands-on practical experience when you work at the student newspaper, television station, radio station, magazine, or yearbook.

Our Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre design and technology offers a practical foundation in all areas of theater production, including lighting, sound, costume design, technical direction, and construction. You’ll have opportunities to apply new technical and conceptual knowledge in hands-on production work. You’ll work with national and international guest artists as well as travel nationally and internationally to attend workshops and exhibitions.

The Bachelor of Arts in German-international trade is a professional degree that broadens your understanding of society through cultural exchange in German and provides you with communication skills, linguistic dexterity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. The non-thesis Master of Science in Materials Engineering provides students an advanced level of knowledge in mechanical properties, materials structure, materials thermodynamics, kinetics and electrical, optical and magnetic properties of materials.
