Our Bachelor of Arts in public administration will prepare you for success in public service. You’ll develop the skills needed to assume major leadership roles in local, state, and national governments, community service groups, and non-profit organizations.

Our Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre design and technology offers a practical foundation in all areas of theater production, including lighting, sound, costume design, technical direction, and construction. You’ll have opportunities to apply new technical and conceptual knowledge in hands-on production work. You’ll work with national and international guest artists as well as travel nationally and internationally to attend workshops and exhibitions.

Emerging global issues, rapidly advancing technologies, and multi-cultural consumer behaviors impact success in the fast-paced, dynamic fashion industry. Career success requires understanding the fashion industry from beginning to end. The department of Consumer and Design Sciences Apparel faculty prepare graduates for a variety of fashion-related careers in the global supply chain. Creativity, innovation, critical thinking, technical competency, and communication effectiveness are valued skill sets. With the integrated core of apparel-related courses, coupled with the focus on the merchandising or design and production management, students will be prepared to work effectively as a team member in a variety of fashion-related settings.

The Apparel Merchandising Option provides students with a unique perspective on this competitive, consumer-driven marketplace. A foundation in textile and apparel product knowledge and business fundamentals is combined with a focus on forecasting and interpreting consumer demand.

The internationalization of producing and marketing fashion-oriented products is emphasized. A strong business orientation is featured. Professional electives provide opportunities to individualize the student’s program to meet career goals. The senior level internship in either a domestic or international firm is focused on the student’s career interests. It may include marketing, store management, buying, sourcing, sales, merchandising, media and special events, fashion journalism, or consumer relations experiences.

If you aspire to use your musical talent and passion in a performance career, then our Bachelor of Music degree is for you. Our performance degree is designed for you to elevate your musical skills to the highest level. You’ll receive group and individualized training and gain proficiency in critical thinking, skill development, time management, self-discipline, and focused practice. There are five concentrations within the music performance major: instrumental, piano, voice, composition and technology and commercial music.

Communication shapes how we achieve success, how we relate to others, and how we see the world. Studying communication allows you to create and share meaning across a variety of contexts, cultures, and channels.

Our Bachelor of Arts in communication provides you with opportunities to build communication expertise, broaden perspectives, and develop critical thinking. We prepare you to be an ethical creator of and informed consumer of communication in all of its forms. You’ll examine communication in areas such as leadership, politics, and health, and take courses on social discourse, research methods, rhetoric, and intercultural communication.

Public relations is an exciting, fast-paced field that combines multiple media-related functions. Public relations professionals help create and sustain a positive image for an organization by coordinating with the media, event planning, writing and market research.

Our Bachelor of Arts in public relations teaches you all elements of the public relations process—from research, planning, communication, and evaluation to communication strategies, media tactics, and the application of public relations in society today. You’ll develop strong skills in ethical reasoning, strategic thinking, and creative problem solving, along with written and oral communication skills. You’ll gain hands-on experiences through our service-learning component, which requires you to work in teams with our community partners.

In every business or organization, the ability to write, think, and communicate clearly is a powerful commodity. Our Bachelor of Arts in English-professional and public writing prepares you to communicate in the world of work. You’ll learn editing and document design practices, linguistic and rhetorical analyses, and writing for specialized audiences. You’ll work with real clients both inside and outside of the university and develop a professional portfolio.

The Hospitality Management (HOSP) program provides a strong educational foundation and excellent career preparation for students interested in the premium service segment of the hospitality industry. The HOSP curriculum offers a variety of courses and unique experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare our graduates to pursue successful management and/or entrepreneurial opportunities in the hotel/lodging, restaurant, event planning, culinary, country club, foodservice or beverage industries.

This program option speaks directly to the Auburn Mission, in that it is designed to service the educational needs of those citizens/students looking to advance their careers in the broad hospitality industry, and culinary fields in particular. Culinary Science is designed to attract students pursuing careers in the commercial, and non-commercial food production and service industry. As is the case both nationally and globally, the culinary field now makes a significant contribution to the socio-economic wellbeing of the state of Alabama and the nation. Interest in the culinary field has continued to grow at an enormous pace with culinary professionals now needed not just in hotel dining facilities and traditional restaurants, but in a variety of settings including the public and private sector, consumer-oriented and institutional. This study option is designed to position Auburn University to keep pace with this vital economic contributor by educating the trained professionals needed to meet the continuing demands of the state’s and nation's ever-developing hospitality industry. The program will underscore the importance of local and sustainable food systems as a means of educating and preparing graduates that will make a meaningful contribution to our planet, industry and global society’s long-term future. In so doing it will concentrate on the technical proficiency, scientific rigor and managerial know-how needed to make this contribution.

The Department offers the Organismal Biology major leading to the Bachelor of Science degree.  The curricula for this major is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in biology as well as providing the opportunity for specialization. This program also provides a strong preparation for further study in graduate programs or in professional schools, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and other allied health fields.

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering provides students opportunities to obtain the skills necessary to define, formulate, and solve advanced problems through education and research in the field of mechanical engineering.
