The degree prepares students for professional careers and graduate study with a balance of computer science theory and practical application of software engineering methodology using modern software engineering environments and tools.  The core of topics in the curriculum includes software modeling and design, construction, process and quality assurance, intelligent and interactive systems, networks, operating systems and computer architecture.

It helps you think critically and improves your writing ability – two skills employers rank as among the most important. Philosophy deepens our engagement with fundamental questions that arise in everyday life with regard to ourselves, others and the world around us. Our Bachelor of Arts in philosophy exposes you to the great philosophers and philosophies of the past and the present. You’ll become adept at criticizing the view of others and your own views.

Geography is a broad synthesizing discipline that studies humans and the Earth by focusing on the themes of place and space. Geography is therefore not an encyclopedic listing of capital cities, mountains and rivers, but rather an understanding of the causes, effects, implications, and importance of these and other features. As Geography is so broad, it is often studied as a number of separate but closely related sub-disciplines, notably physical geography and human geography, and also regional geography (Area Studies), topical geography and geographic techniques (Geomatics).

A Bachelor of Arts in international studies prepares you for work in business, non-profit, foreign and civil service, and government. It is also an excellent foundation for law school or other graduate study. You choose a region of the world to study and then participate in an internship or service learning experience related to that area. International studies coursework emphasizes the communication, collaboration, and discipline specific skills necessary to work in diverse cultural settings.

Our Department of Horticulture has been recognized nationally for its research programs, its student-centered faculty members and its high rate of employment for graduates. As a horticulture major, you’ll learn how to establish, propagate, harvest and manage fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. You’ll also learn the principles of landscape design to create and manage aesthetically pleasing environments.

Emphasis in Landscape Horticulture
The landscape horticulture major option track will provide you with the opportunity to combine the science of horticulture and your creative abilities in creating aesthetically beautiful, inviting and functional environments. You will learn valuable skills that will provide you with the competitive edge employers are looking for.

Landscape horticulturists use the principles of design and the appropriate plant material to create both residential and commercial landscapes.

Students will develop demonstrated capabilities in core chemical engineering topics including material and energy balances, thermodynamics, chemical equilibria, heat, mass and momentum transfer, chemical reaction engineering, continuous and stagewise separation operations, process dynamics, statistics and control. The curriculum ranges from elementary design principles in material and energy balances to the capstone senior process design and process control sequence by employing advanced computer process and control simulators and experimental control systems.

With a major in business administration, you will get hands-on experience through coursework in areas of accounting, business analytics, marketing, finance, and management. You will also get the opportunity to focus or specialize your major elective courses to define your personal career goals.

Applied mathematics is a branch of mathematics that deals with mathematical methods that find use in science, engineering, business, computer science, and industry. Thus, applied mathematics is a combination of mathematical science and specialized knowledge. The term "applied mathematics" also describes the professional specialty in which mathematicians work on practical problems by formulating and studying mathematical models. In the past, practical applications have motivated the development of mathematical theories, which then became the subject of study in pure mathematics where abstract concepts are studied for their own sake. The activity of applied mathematics is thus intimately connected with research in pure mathematics.

Our forestry program provides students with the knowledge to sustain and manage the diverse forest resources that make up local and regional landscapes.  For a hands-on introduction to field work,  students in the forestry program spend the summer between their second and third years at our summer practicum program held at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center outside Andalusia, Alabama.

The objectives of the forestry curriculum are to provide: 1) the fundamental knowledge regarding the resources that professional foresters typically manage and the multiple uses, sustaining, and conservation of those resources; 2) a general education integrating physical, social and biological sciences to prepare the forester for the role as steward of public and private forest resources; and 3) training and skills needed for initial forestry employment, as well as for advancement to higher levels of managerial responsibility. The forestry degree is appropriate for students who seek employment in any aspect of forest resource management, from forest industry lands where timber production is typically the primary objective, to private non-industrial properties where multiple-use predominates, to public lands where recreation or environmental protection is often paramount. The curriculum emphasizes biological, ecological, environmental, social, economic, and ethical considerations in forest management.

This non-thesis degree program provides a mix of theoretical and applied background for students interested in a career in statistics. The curriculum delivers the necessary technical, analytical, and interpretive skills required of professional statisticians. It also concentrates on education in the fundamentals of statistics and its interdisciplinary nature. Combined with the small class  sizes of 5 to 15 students, you get lots of personal attention from your professors.
