Marine biological research is conducted by five faculty members who share an interest in how marine organisms evolve, function, and interact with the environment in the world’s oceans. Marine biological studies at Auburn span all levels of organization from molecular genetics to community structure and ecosystem functioning. Projects involve campus-based laboratory research as well as field studies in Atlantic, Caribbean, tropical Indo-Pacific, and Antarctic seas.

The Hospitality Management (HOSP) program provides a strong educational foundation and excellent career preparation for students interested in the premium service segment of the hospitality industry. The HOSP curriculum offers a variety of courses and unique experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare our graduates to pursue successful management and/or entrepreneurial opportunities in the hotel/lodging, restaurant, event planning, culinary, country club, foodservice or beverage industries.

The Event Management Option is designed to attract students pursuing careers in the multi-faceted and ever-evolving commercial, and non-commercial Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Events (MICE) sector. As is the case both nationally and globally, the events sector now makes a significant contribution to the socio-economic wellbeing of the state of Alabama and the nation. Over recent decades, public, private and voluntary sector businesses (including those in the education sector) throughout the state and beyond have been outsourcing social and business events such as meetings, incentive travel, conferences and events (MICE). This program is designed to position Auburn University to keep pace with this emerging economic sector by educating the trained professionals needed to meet the continuing demands of the state’s and nations ever-developing hospitality industry and in particular those interested in pursuing a career in the event management field.

If you aspire to use your musical talent and passion in a performance career, then our Bachelor of Music degree is for you. Our performance degree is designed for you to elevate your musical skills to the highest level. You’ll receive group and individualized training and gain proficiency in critical thinking, skill development, time management, self-discipline, and focused practice. There are five concentrations within the music performance major: instrumental, piano, voice, composition and technology and commercial music.

Most people enjoy watching movies and television, but what does it mean to study media and how it makes meaning in our society? Our Bachelor of Arts in media studies offers an in-depth approach to the study of film, television, popular music, and digital media. Our curriculum highlights the cultural and aesthetic importance of media and introduces students to critical methods of media analysis. Through screenings, lively discussions, and a range of written assignments, you'll become adept at interpreting media and understanding their power and significance. Film Genres, Audiences and Fan Cultures, Soundtracks, and Music and Media are just a few of the courses offered in our program.

Auburn University's Master of Science in Statistics program balances the theory and application of statistics. The curriculum focuses on two key elements required of professional statisticians. First, you learn the fundamentals of statistics and its interdisciplinary nature. Then you gain the necessary technical, analytical, and interpretive skills to succeed in your career. And you can specialize your studies to best match your desired career in academia, government, or the private industry. Before graduating, you’ll need to complete and defend a thesis, and obtain a passing score on the related oral examination.

Each food product on the grocery store shelves was conceptualized, developed and manufactured by a team of food scientists. The ever-changing food industry must meet the demands of consumers, meet dietary guidelines for health maintenance and still be profitable for manufacturers.

To accomplish these objectives, food scientists use their scientific training within the multi-billion dollar food industry. Food Science graduates are prepared to enter many areas of the food industry, including quality control, research and development, and management.

As a student in food science, you’ll have the opportunities to be a part of the food industry through internships and other problem-solving experiences linked directly to industry needs and issues. You’ll also have access to undergraduate research experiences that will prepare you for work on graduate or professional degrees.

What you will study
The food science major blends a strong foundation in the basic sciences with the expertise of faculty from the departments of animal sciences, poultry science, and biosystems engineering.

Food science is a multidisciplinary scientific field where concepts of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, engineering and nutrition are utilized to develop and produce foods that are safe, palatable, healthy and economical.

After completing coursework in the basic sciences, you’ll take specialized courses in food chemistry, food analysis, food engineering, food microbiology, processing and product development. An internship or other approved practical experience is required for the food science major and you may also participate in a variety of undergraduate research opportunities as a student in food science.

The Master of Science in CSSE provides both online and on-campus students an opportunity for advanced learning and creative research. Students will further their education through a balanced program in both instruction and research with the goal of achieving excellence in the field of computer science and software engineering. On-campus students may choose the thesis or non-thesis option. Online students can choose a non-thesis (courses only) or, with special permission from the department, the thesis option. They will be able to specialize in areas such as artificial intelligence, computer networks, cybersecurity, databases and data science, human/computer interaction and machine learning.

Our Bachelor of Arts in Spanish broadens your understanding of society through cultural exchange in Spanish and provides you with communication skills, linguistic dexterity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. Auburn's anthropology program features four sub-fields: sociocultural anthropology (how people in different places live and understand the world around them), archaeology (material evidence of how societies change over time), biological anthropology (human variation, evolution, and adaptation to the environment), and linguistics (relationship between language and culture). With a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, you'll be able to apply your knowledge to global issues outside of the classroom in areas such as social and environmental policy, medical anthropology, forensic anthropology, museum studies, cultural resource management, and historic preservation. Each of the four subfields of anthropology can be applied to solve real world problems.
