The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering provides a broad-based set of skills and knowledge that serves the needs of major sectors of the modern economy including manufacturing of consumer goods, the automotive industry, the energy sector, and the defense sector.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies program will equip students with the comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to succeed in philanthropic endeavors. In class, students will learn how to build solid personal and organizational financial foundations to support philanthropic projects and lead nonprofit enterprises. Course subjects include: collegiate consuming and giving, nonprofit studies, portfolio development, nonprofit law and governance, and gender, wealth and philanthropy.

Whether it be working with endangered species, with farmers to help mitigate agricultural depredation by wildlife, or with the CDC to understand the role of wildlife populations as carriers of disease, the Wildlife Ecology and Management degree program provides a broad biological education that is specifically designed to meet the needs of students interested in careers involving wildlife ecology, management, and conservation.

During their four years at Auburn, students are exposed to field experiences through outdoor labs and work opportunities. For a hands-on introduction to fieldwork, students in the wildlife program spend a portion of the summer between their third and fourth years at our summer practicum program where they have the opportunity to work hands-on with a number of wildlife species that have included white-tailed deer, feral hogs, bobwhite quail, and birds of prey.

Our students are trained to address issues involving free-ranging wildlife populations and are sought after by state and federal agencies due to their high level of technical ability. Others carve their niche as youth education specialists, thereby ensuring the next generation understands and appreciates the natural world. Whatever their ultimate destination, wildlife ecology and management graduates are making an impact.

The BA curriculum in Chemistry provides a strong background in chemistry while allowing students to specialize in areas of interest. It is especially well suited for students leaning towards medical sciences while allowing more flexibility than that allowed in the American Chemical Society approved biochemistry curriculum. The program allows for great versatility in the junior and senior years, allowing the curriculum to be tailored to individual goals. The curriculum prepares students for professional careers in chemistry or biochemistry and advanced degree programs in chemistry, biochemistry and medically related fields.

Our forestry program provides students with the knowledge to sustain and manage the diverse forest resources that make up local and regional landscapes.  For a hands-on introduction to field work,  students in the forestry program spend the summer between their second and third years at our summer practicum program held at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center outside Andalusia, Alabama.

The objectives of the forestry curriculum are to provide: 1) the fundamental knowledge regarding the resources that professional foresters typically manage and the multiple uses, sustaining, and conservation of those resources; 2) a general education integrating physical, social and biological sciences to prepare the forester for the role as steward of public and private forest resources; and 3) training and skills needed for initial forestry employment, as well as for advancement to higher levels of managerial responsibility. The forestry degree is appropriate for students who seek employment in any aspect of forest resource management, from forest industry lands where timber production is typically the primary objective, to private non-industrial properties where multiple-use predominates, to public lands where recreation or environmental protection is often paramount. The curriculum emphasizes biological, ecological, environmental, social, economic, and ethical considerations in forest management.

Art historians study how societies across time and around the world have expressed themselves through an essential form of human expression—art.

Our Bachelor of Arts degree in art (formal option - art history) provides you with an understanding of the historical and intellectual significance of a range of artistic forms and practices around the world, from prehistoric times to the present. You’ll learn about scholarly issues in art history and become familiar with a variety of research methods used by art historians.   

With its visually and intellectually stimulating study of art and visual culture, a minor in art history is ideal for any major. You will develop numerous transferable skills including writing, research, critical thinking, visual analysis, and verbal communication. These skills are valuable in professions such as law, medicine, communication, business, and museum and gallery work.

The Hospitality Management (HOSP) program provides a strong educational foundation and excellent career preparation for students interested in the premium service segment of the hospitality industry. The HOSP curriculum offers a variety of courses and unique experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare our graduates to pursue successful management and/or entrepreneurial opportunities in the hotel/lodging, restaurant, event planning, culinary, country club, foodservice or beverage industries.

The Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRMG) option is designed to prepare students for careers in the premium service segment of the lodging and food service industries. This sector spans both the commercial and non-commercial aspects of the broader hospitality industry and presents itself as a key contributor to the economic wellbeing of the state of Alabama and the nation. The hotel and restaurant management curriculum It is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for leadership success in this dynamic employment sector, and also to empower those who may, at some future date, wish to establish their own lodging or food oriented businesses.

The Global Studies in Human Sciences curriculum is designed to educate students on relevant global issues, the realities of globalization and how local and global issues are interconnected. Through required course work in the major and minor field, students will gain first-hand experience and be prepared for professional careers in the global studies field as it relates to human sciences.

The Global Studies in Human Sciences major draws on content relevant to human sciences (e.g., international nutrition, hunger and food insecurity, microlending and entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, maternal and child health, education of women and girls, global markets, goods and services, humanitarian aid and social policy) as well as the faculty expertise of the Dean’s administrative team and the three departments in the College.

Whether it is generating and distributing electrical power, designing advanced medical imaging and diagnostic equipment, creating communication systems to connect the world, or building next-generation robots, electrical engineering is the application and control of electricity.

The curriculum leading to this degree allows students to gain comprehensive understanding of the relationships between the structure and properties of materials. Courses offer students a broad foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics. Within the curriculum are classes and labs covering metals, ceramics, polymers and the design and selection of those materials. Students have the opportunity to explore different fields through a sequence of technical electives in other engineering disciplines. A series of senior capstone project courses allows students to apply materials science principles to open-ended engineering problems.
