Learn about the art and science of textile production and development, including materials, processes, and technologies involved in today’s industry.

Apparel Design: Learn about the construction and design aspects of the fashion industry for the consumer market.

Construction Managers use engineering and business principles to oversee the entire construction process. This includes estimating/budgeting, contract law, construction methods and materials, scheduling, safety, and effective communication. Industry emphasis areas include industrial, highway, commercial, residential, and general construction. Graduates are easily employed in this booming industry and can either work their way up within a construction company or start their own construction management business.

If you enjoy bringing life to a creative thought, you may find your niche in studio art. Choose a focus in two- or three-dimensional art, such as ceramics and sculpture, painting and drawing, photography, or printmaking. Become familiar with a number of art techniques and the major achievements in the history of art. Gain an understanding of contemporary thinking about art and design, and learn to make valid assessments of quality in design projects and works of art. Studio artists are creative problem solvers who enjoy experimentation, are self-disciplined, and visually aware.

Environmental engineering at LSU will provide you with a unique learning opportunity. Due to Louisiana’s economic activity from the Mississippi River, our unique coast and soil, the array of industry present here, and environmental challenges, such as hurricanes and storm surges, you will have a canvas like no other to research and practice. Environmental engineers are not only concerned with local and regional issues, but work on problems of global significance, including the world water and sanitation crisis, the impacts of population growth, and climate change. They are responsible for municipal water supply and wastewater treatment in urban and rural areas. Environmental engineers also work to reduce risk from hazardous materials in the environment by designing safe disposal and remediation methods for contaminated soil, sediment, and water. Specialization tracks include sustainability, coastal engineering, and a “flex” track, which allows students to tailor their focus to meet individual career goals. Graduates pursue careers in governmental organizations, nonprofits, and industry, or they may serve as external consultants for any of these entities.

Philosophy will allow you to stretch your mind and imagination by examining some of the most difficult problems of human existence. By building analytical skills related to meaning, value, and argumentation, you will be equipped for a surprising range of opportunities in fields such as linguistics, computer science, medical ethics, or law.

Learn about the properties and composition of matter and the interactions and alterations of substances. Chemistry is at the core of most scientific disciplines, including the study of polymers, biotechnology, pollution control, and energy. There are nine available concentrations, which will allow you to narrow your focus to the career track that works best for you or help you prepare for graduate study. 

Pre-professional Chemistry
This area of focus is designed primarily for students who will apply for graduate education in another profession, such as medicine, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.

You are intrigued by the accomplishments and foundations of knowledge that arose from ancient cultures.

Classical Civilization
The Classical Civilization concentration allows you to explore the culture and history of ancient Greece and Rome. In this concentration, you will learn to read Latin or Greek and can continue to pursue advanced language work and/or interests in the classical world. The curriculum includes courses in art history, classical studies (in translation), history, linguistics, philosophy, political science, and religious studies.

Information systems and decision sciences professionals are among the highest paid recent college graduates with a top starting salary ranging from $50,000 to $65,000. The Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences offers two constantly updated concentrations: information technology, for students interested in designing, programming, and testing website applications and building database systems; and business intelligence, for students interested in analytics.

You will feel right at home as a geography major. Take advantage of the special emphases in Latin American and East Asian geography. Get heavily involved in hands-on research projects and the student-run Geography and Anthropology Society.

Disaster Science & Management
In this concentration you will learn to help communities in crisis establish strategies to plan effectively for mitigation of adverse effects of, response to, and recovery from disasters.
