Economics is a social science and as such an important component of the liberal arts curriculum. It provides a useful background for students interested in careers in public policy, business or finance.

Students who study economics investigate the allocation of scarce resources. The foundation of economics is based on theories of how people, institutions and governments make choices and interact. Some of the topics that a student of economics studies are: pricing, the effects of taxing and regulation by the government, inflation, income distribution and international trade.

Because Economics straddles the worlds of business and social science, the demand for economics majors is strong in both the public and private sector. Economics is also great preparation for graduate school in fields as diverse as business, law, and public policy.

Our students study Chaucer and Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Toni Morrison, Claudia Rankine and Kendrick Lamar. Our students look to the deep meanings that great writing reveals about human life, human community and our shared, common home. Our students love to read and become master readers – they leverage that mastery in their professional lives.

Environmental biology is a dynamic and growing major which prepares students with the scientific background needed to understand and address the many pressing environmental concerns that exist in the modern world. Our program emphasizes experiential learning and creates opportunities for students to get out of the class room into nature.

Our B.A. in communication prepares students for professional careers in a wide range of communication fields: broadcasting, communication management, healthcare administration, journalism and public relations. Our graduates succeed in business, education, government, healthcare, international relations, and social and human services. We also offer graduate studies in business communication and law, and an undergraduate certificate in sport communication.

Sure, they play a large part, but our approach involves preparing, analyzing and communicating relevant information — not simply numbers — to decision makers. You'll understand the value behind equations, using critical thinking to ascertain their meaning. Spanish is the second-largest native language in the world, the second language used for international communication, and the third most used language on the Internet. Having a Spanish credential will make you more attractive to employers in many fields across the U.S. and around the globe.
