As a member of the Discover Engineering program at the University of Dayton, you will explore the academic programs in the School of Engineering before finalizing your major. With the help of a semester-long seminar and the assistance of your Student Success adviser, you'll discover the area of engineering that's right for you while staying on track academically. The seminar covers the curriculum and careers of each engineering program (chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical), as well as the multitude of complementary minors, concentrations and programs.

Once you decide on your engineering academic program, students admitted as Discover Engineering are guaranteed to move into any engineering program and students admitted as Discover Engineering Technology are guaranteed to move into any engineering technology program.  If you'd like to move between the engineering and engineering technology programs, you can coordinate with your Student Success adviser on the process to do so!

Our curriculum provides you with an understanding of basic electrical engineering principles and emphasizes the development of problem-solving skills. Your extensive lab experiences are integrated with your coursework, which ensures the development of fundamental knowledge — resulting in a graduate ready to enter the workforce or pursue a graduate degree.

Electrical engineering is a broad-based degree program concerning the study and application of devices and systems involving electrical signals, electronics and electromagnetics. It includes the rapidly developing areas of control systems, digital and computer systems, microelectronics, telecommunications, radar systems, robotics, signal and image processing, and more.

As a UD entrepreneurship major, you'll learn to launch and sustain a business. But this program does not simply talk theory; it involves real decisions and action. During the Sophomore Experience, you will create and run a microbusiness with $5,000 in start-up capital.

The Industrial Engineering Technology program prepares students for management and engineering positions in manufacturing and service organizations such as healthcare, banking and finance, transportation, retail, and government. Graduates may be involved in supply chain management, data-driven economic decisions, planning and scheduling of work methods and expected output, quality assurance, optimization of facilities layout and processes.

As an industrial engineering technology major at University of Dayton, you will develop engineering skills through industry-sponsored projects and experiential learning opportunities. With our small class sizes, faculty members with real-world engineering experience, and well-equipped laboratories, we utilize hands-on learning to equip students with applied engineering knowledge and skills that will help you to minimize waste, improve efficiency and make things better. As a UD Middle Childhood Education/Intervention Specialist major, you'll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to educate and support children in their transition from childhood to early adolescence. You'll specialize in two areas of concentration, choosing from mathematics, reading/language arts, science, and social studies. You'll also earn a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) certificate. A STEM lab and Curriculum Materials Center are among the numerous resources available to students.

The seminar will cover the curriculum and careers of each program, as well as the multitude of complementary minors.
