In the School of Business Administration, you may participate in the Discover Business program if you are unsure which area of business is most appropriate for you. The structure of the curriculum is such that the final decision about a specific major need not be made until the junior year.

As a first-year student, you'll participate in a one-credit course in business educational planning where you will learn about the nine majors available in the School of Business Administration. This experience will help you select an appropriate major and provide the necessary framework to help realize academic, professional and extracurricular goals.

A solid music curriculum combined with an arts and sciences education provides students the ability and flexibility to pursue their interests and prepare for their career.

This program is designed to prepare engineers and aspiring engineers for leadership roles in engineering activities in industry, government, business and the military. We’ll help you build the analytical and managerial skills you need to plan, design, optimize and direct complex systems, programs and processes.

Topics researched by recent graduates include:

• Optimizing manufacturing, assembly and sequencing operations for a new facility.
• Developing a model for selecting a supplier for gas turbine engines.
• Determining the best configuration for a call center via simulation.

As a member of the Discover Engineering program at the University of Dayton, you will explore the academic programs in the School of Engineering before finalizing your major. With the help of a semester-long seminar and the assistance of your Student Success adviser, you'll discover the area of engineering that's right for you while staying on track academically. The seminar covers the curriculum and careers of each engineering program (chemical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical), as well as the multitude of complementary minors, concentrations and programs.

Once you decide on your engineering academic program, students admitted as Discover Engineering are guaranteed to move into any engineering program and students admitted as Discover Engineering Technology are guaranteed to move into any engineering technology program.  If you'd like to move between the engineering and engineering technology programs, you can coordinate with your Student Success adviser on the process to do so!

Our research, particularly in the areas of nanomaterials, energy systems, and fuels and combustion — as led by the von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center — is enhanced by our relationship with the Air Force Research Laboratories. 

You can choose from numerous research opportunities: aircraft fuels and combustion, alternative fuels for future use in homes, transportation, and industrial energy systems. Experiment with robotics and controls, nanomaterial characterization, kinematic design, or aerospace design.

The physical science major meets the needs of the teaching profession, with a flexible curriculum that includes teaching-related experiential learning opportunities. This major not only services students wishing to enter the teaching profession, but also can accommodate students who want high-quality training in physics and mathematics, or who are considering a career in health care, the legal profession or other science areas.

Our students are taught by an outstanding array of scholar-teachers in areas of inquiry that include American politics, public law, public administration, international relations, comparative politics, public policy, environmental politics, urban politics and political theory.

Sure, they play a large part, but our approach involves preparing, analyzing and communicating relevant information — not simply numbers — to decision makers. You'll understand the value behind equations, using critical thinking to ascertain their meaning.
