The Master of Music in composition program offers students one-on-one instruction with DePaul's distinguished faculty of active composers as well as many seminars with guest composers and performers from Chicago and across the country. Graduate composition majors have their compositions performed during DePaul Composers Forum, a quarterly student composition concert, and submit works to be read and possibly performed by Ensemble 20+, DePaul Wind Ensemble, University Singers or the DePaul Chamber Orchestra. DePaul also offers two assistantships to graduate composition students.

The master's in Software Engineering provides students with skills that are widely applicable, highly in demand, and richly rewarded. Software engineering is a discipline concerned with the processes, methodologies, techniques, and tools of developing high-quality software systems in a cost-effective manner. The Software Engineering program emphasizes the best software engineering practices, current methodologies, emerging technologies, and their applications in various industries. It also emphasizes the development of communication and presentation skills in a team-based software development environment. The curriculum encompasses all important aspects of software engineering, including: requirements engineering, software architecture and design, software construction, software testing and quality assurance, software maintenance, and software project management.

Software Architecture
This concentration offers students with prior experience in software development the opportunity to sharpen their skill set and broaden their knowledge base in software development. This concentration addresses the management and design of large-scale software systems with a focus on critical technical decisions with global impacts on large systems. Students will be exposed to the unique challenges, issues, and methods in dealing with the architectural aspect of complex and large-scale software systems. Students in this concentration will be prepared to take technical leadership roles in software development teams that are responsible for large-scale software projects.

The MS in Business Information Technology is offered by the College of Computing and Digital Media with some course work taken from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business (KGSB). Students gain technology management skills and core business concepts to better serve organizations in information-dependent areas. The program provides a solid base for those interested in moving their career forward through management positions in staff/line functions at various types of organizations.

Metropolitan Planning and Urban Affairs Concentration
The Metropolitan Planning and Urban Affairs concentration provides students with a broad perspective on the issues relating to land use, transportation, housing, economic development, and related social problems. It instills an understanding of the institutional and analytical issues affecting units of government, planning agencies, and other urban public service institutions.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program provides a collaborative, applied approach to public health education, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention to vulnerable populations. Gain the knowledge and practical skills to become an effective public health leader and solve problems to reduce health disparities.

Community Health Practice
Community health practice: Assess a community’s health needs and design, implement and evaluate interventions that address those needs.

The Secondary Education program prepares you to teach 9th through 12th grade in a variety of urban and suburban education settings, including public and private high schools. You can graduate with a State of Illinois license to teach designated subject-area content (listed below). The program also provides you an opportunity to receive a Diploma Year Program Award (IB certification) to teach in International Baccalaureate schools world-wide.

As part of the secondary education major, you’ll learn educational theories and effective teaching practices, including how to design and implement curriculum; participate in extensive field experiences at multiple schools, and student-teach for 10 weeks.

Deepen your understanding of classic theorems and structures, on your own schedule. DePaul’s master’s in Pure Mathematics is one of the few evening programs of its type offered in the Chicago area. Focus your research in areas such as

• Algebra (Representation theory, Lie theory, Hopf algebras and quantum groups)
• Analysis (Harmonic, Fourier and functional analysis; Operator algebras; Spectral geometry)
• Combinatorics
• Dynamical systems
• Number theory
• Probability theory

As a Biochemistry major, you’ll learn the fundamentals of chemical and biochemical theory and practice through scientific investigation, laboratory experience and research.

You’ll take courses that cover all aspects of chemistry, including analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, as well as courses in biology, physics and mathematics.

You’ll gain hands-on research experience by working with professors on cutting-edge research projects.

Study communication in the context of popular culture, the corporate world, interpersonal relationships and new media with a master’s degree in Communication and Media. Develop diverse areas of interest while focusing on a specific content area with an optional concentration in Interpersonal Communication, Media and Cinema Studies, Multicultural Communication or Organizational Communication. You’ll master the tools and frameworks to critically examine and resolve real-life communication issues.

Media and Cinema Studies
The Media and Cinema Studies concentration focuses on the critical skills, historical grounding, and research methodologies for understanding the cultural and social impact of film, television and digital media in our globalized society.

Our graduate seminar classes investigate current media-related topics through interdisciplinary perspectives including national and transnational media, film and media histories. The impact and potential of new technologies, the power of audiovisual media in society, the role of media in the formation of identities, aesthetics and popular culture, are also examined.

The Master of Music in performance degree prepares students for professional music careers in a supportive, collegial environment.  Graduate students study with highly celebrated performers who are committed to teaching excellence.  The graduate performance program consists of applied lessons, ensembles, core studies in music theory/history and research, and related studies.  The Master of Music degree is a two year program.
