The Department of Health and Human Services is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Bachelor of Science degree program in Artificial Intelligence is one of the first degrees of its kind in the country. Students of this program will build the foundational knowledge necessary to design computational systems that exhibit “human-like intelligence” such as the ability to interpret sensory input, learn from experience, understand human language, and support intelligent decision-making. Graduates will have the skill-set necessary to meet industry demand for workers able to contribute to research and development in Artificial Intelligence across all industry sectors. The program begins with introductory courses in programming, computer science, mathematics, and statistics that provide a firm technical foundation. The curriculum then introduces core artificial intelligence concepts and techniques including state-space search, game-playing, machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning with applications to various domains (e.g. computer vision, natural language processing and understanding).

The program is supported by a cutting-edge learning and design center which will provide students and faculty with state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and systems to support learning and research. This center will provide students with the opportunity to develop research projects and prototypes with the same big data and artificial intelligence platforms used in cutting-edge industry applications.

Through the study of English, students learn to evaluate sensibilities both past and present, acquiring a profound knowledge of their own humanity and of the human condition in general. The study of English helps develop fluency of expression, skill in logical analysis, and facility in planning, organizing, and revising.

Undergraduate and graduate programs in English with a concentration in literature offers you an opportunity to explore the world around you and enduring issues of identity, morality, spirituality, and material success through the great minds of Western civilization.

The writing concentration explores various forms of creative expression through course work in literature, creative writing and non-fiction writing. Students pursuing this concentration have the opportunity to take courses in “Academic Writing” (expository, argumentative, creative writing), “Performance Writing” (screenplays, teleplays), “Writing for the Marketplace” (business, public relations), and “Rhetorical Theory” (ancient and modern).

The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is an excellent choice for students interested in pre-engineering, computer science or teaching. It includes higher-level math courses and additional credits in science or computer science.

Graduates with degrees in mathematics are in demand by the best employers and graduate schools. The program combines rigorous coursework with outstanding academic support from both professors and peers. Graduates can expect to be seen as attractive candidates by graduate schools or by employers in a variety of industries such as insurance, technology, engineering, education and manufacturing.

The Master of Health Administration degree, provides the comprehensive curriculum needed to succeed as a manager or leader in a highly complex, competitive and ever-changing health care environment. This 42-credit program examines both practical and theoretical problems and challenges in the field, and provides an understanding of a wide range of topics including organizational structures, health care policy analysis and healthcare management.

The M.H.A. program at LIU Post prepares students for service in executive and managerial-level positions public, nonprofit, and health care organizations. Our graduates are currently serving in the hospitals and health care practices; local and national nonprofits; and local, state, and federal government positions.

Journalism is a challenging and fast-paced career. Given the flood of information that surrounds us, the public looks to skilled journalists to provide news and commentary that informs civic dialogue and to report the latest trends and events in politics, government, culture, entertainment, sports, technology, and much more. The Journalism major trains students to be strong writers, a skill that can be applied to jobs in many other fields as well.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Fine Arts in Journalism provides you with an understanding of the increasingly complex task of reporting, writing, editing and delivering the news in a multimedia environment. Our program develops practical knowledge and conceptual foundations for work in the varied forms of print, broadcast and online journalism as well as for graduate study in journalism and related fields. Journalism students are strongly encouraged to select a minor in another field, such as a science, social science or business to better prepare them to report in a specific content area with deeper understanding.

The Programs provides a strong educational foundation in science and the liberal arts, and comprehensive coursework in veterinary technology. Students receive the core knowledge for entry into professional practice as well as tools for lifelong learning. Through the synthesis of clinical and didactic experiences, students develop clinical competence, conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills for effective problem-solving. We seek to prepare graduates who will have essential literacies including written and oral communication skills and thus be clinically competent professionals able to provide quality care to the community and other groups of interest.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science provides you with the knowledge and technical skills necessary to design and develop complex software systems. All coursework incorporates an experiential learning model designed to provide a strong foundation in the technical and professional skills needed to succeed, including how to accomplish tasks in real-world business environments, developing leadership skills to manage teams effectively, and communicating your goals and objectives to end users in a clear, concise format.

The 120-credit Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is a popular and versatile undergraduate degree. It can be applied to almost any area of work, including social services, law, human resources, business and government. Courses in this program explore how people learn, what lies behind people’s behavior, how the brain affects behavior, how gender affects development and the different ways in which people interact. Elective courses will introduce you to interesting and relevant topics including forensic psychology, psychosomatics, and industrial and organizational psychology.

Clinical Laboratory Scientists are highly skilled professionals who are qualified by passing the national certification examination and licensed by NY State to work in a several departments of a clinical laboratory including hematology, microbiology, immunohematology, chemistry, immunology and molecular diagnostics (CLS generalist). They play a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and illnesses. Using sophisticated laboratory analyzers, CLS generalists perform tests and analyze cells, blood and other body fluids to detect abnormalities. They are a vital source of diagnostic information to doctors who use the test results to determine and monitor a course of treatment for patients.

The B.S. CLS program and the corresponding MS CLS program, are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS, 5600 N. River Rd., Suite 720, Rosemont, IL, 60018-5119; 773.714.8880; [email protected]), which is the national accrediting body for CLS programs. The goals of the programs are to exceed the NAACLS specified benchmarks for certification exam pass rate, graduation rate and employment rate. This program integrates a complex level of didactic theoretical and technical instruction. Following successful completion of the CLS didactic courses, students are selected for the practicum by competitively placement into clinical sites contracted with LIU Post- a list of the sites is shown below. Students successfully completing the practicum are eligible to take the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) national certification examinations for a CLS generalist. Certification is necessary for employment nation-wide and is required for licensure in New York State. Conferral of the B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science degree is not contingent upon passing a certification or licensure exam.
