From your first semester, you can take advantage of opportunities to perform in our many choral, instrumental, opera and chamber music ensembles. You can perform in our weekly department recitals, and you’ll give a solo recital in both your junior and senior years. With no graduate students, the focus and attention is on you!

Off stage, you’ll get a thorough education in music theory and history, including repertoire and pedagogy classes for your instrument from professors who are experienced educators and active performers.

As state requirements for teachers intensify, we’re committed to preparing you for certification in four years, including your student teaching semester.

About half of our graduates pursue graduate studies in organic, physical and inorganic chemistry. A chemistry major sets you apart on dental and medical school applications — they know you can easily master challenging material. Our interdisciplinary minors help you gain a better understanding of important topics in today’s world.

Majors work towards the development of a cohesive body of work that demonstrates a distinctive personal style. The program emphasizes the mastery of a broad range of fundamental skills, with a focused experience in one technique or medium. Majors are well versed in historical and contemporary art, and are given numerous opportunities to exhibit their work, travel, and receive feedback from faculty and peers.

Prior to graduation, students will professionally mount a public exhibition of the work in The Lore Degenstein Gallery, where they will gain experience in a professional gallery with museum standards.

Required independent coursework and a cross-disciplinary approach allow students to investigate and experiment with multiple ways of creating art. Students are encouraged and given ample time to develop a distinctive and personal visual style.

Learn the practical elements of being a broadcaster or journalist in an ever-growing market and the history of sports to understand the context of what you’ll be covering.

Discuss the contribution of Jackie Robinson and how sports and race have become intertwined in our society. Look at the gender gap and monumental moments that have helped close it. Debate current events and how they’re covered by social and traditional media.

We’re one of the only universities that requires semester-long study abroad for language majors. Connect with native Spanish speakers in Valencia, Spain; Heredia, Costa Rica; Merida, Mexico; or Havana, Cuba — to name a few.
