Gain a broad view of mass communication or target a couple of disciplines to master with the communication studies major.

• You’ll learn the principles of professional communication and digital media, media law and ethics, graphic design and public speaking.
• You will also study the ways we communicate with each other, including group communication, intercultural communication and listening.

Majors work towards the development of a cohesive body of work that demonstrates a distinctive personal style. The program emphasizes the mastery of a broad range of fundamental skills, with a focused experience in one technique or medium. Majors are well versed in historical and contemporary art, and are given numerous opportunities to exhibit their work, travel, and receive feedback from faculty and peers.

Prior to graduation, students will professionally mount a public exhibition of the work in The Lore Degenstein Gallery, where they will gain experience in a professional gallery with museum standards.

Required independent coursework and a cross-disciplinary approach allow students to investigate and experiment with multiple ways of creating art. Students are encouraged and given ample time to develop a distinctive and personal visual style.

You’ll be well-versed in classical philosophical thinking on age-old questions, like does God exist? We’re one of few universities to connect that kind of thinking to contemporary issues. We were the first university in the nation with a philosophy class on HBO’s “The Wire.” You’ll also study love and desire, environmental ethics, hip hop and other contemporary topics from a philosophical standpoint.

Physics courses in classical areas such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and electronics with select classes in quantum areas give students the foundational knowledge to continue their education, step into a career or teach the next generation of Einsteins.

From studying forms of writing to analyzing Shakespeare, every class you take builds toward a senior capstone project-modeled on grad school programs-that challenges you to think more deeply about your past four years.

You’ll have ample opportunities to publish your own work and contribute to eight department-focused student publications. Creative outlets on campus for literature majors include the Literature Club or the Comic Book Club.

Master the Spanish language and immerse yourself in the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

We’re one of the only universities that requires semester-long study abroad for language majors. Connect with native Spanish speakers in Valencia, Spain; Heredia, Costa Rica; Merida, Mexico; or Havana, Cuba — to name a few.

While abroad, you’ll live with host families, do internships in fields such as health and grant-writing, and take courses in a broad array of disciplines. You will also travel and make new, long-lasting friendships.

• Connect with Spanish-speakers on campus! Take courses on the literatures, cultures and histories of Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Study Spanish translation, and get involved with activities outside of the classroom.

Thinking about medical school or other health professions? Our biomedical sciences major is for you!

This versatile program will fully prepare you for any health-related field. Focused on health sciences, it still leaves ample room for developing other interests that enhance your application to professional schools.

If you want to be a health care professional, you may also wish to consider biology, biochemistry, chemistry, neuroscience and psychology as they are great points of entry to a career in health care. Many academic majors will prepare you for admission to professional schools if you also complete the required pre-requisite courses.

Jump into a career as a biomedical researcher or continue your studies to work in health care as a:

The graphic design program at Susquehanna is focused, close-knit, challenging, intense and ultimately very rewarding.
