The Master of Public Administration is the most widely accepted and valued professional degree in the field of Public Service. Our MPA program provides students with the core skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful professional in Public Service, as well as offering students an opportunity to complete a concentration in one of five timely areas: 1) Municipal Management, 2) Public Financial Management, 3) Public Safety, 4) Nonprofit Management, and 5) Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Our MPA accommodates the needs of students new to the field as well as those already working in public service. In both cases, we seek students who are motivated to increase their knowledge and gain the skills necessary to take on challenging assignments in public service, particularly at the state and local level.

The Nonprofit Management concentration provides students with vital knowledge and skills in Nonprofit Management, from traditional aspects such as fund raising and community service, to the latest trends such as social entrepreneurship

As an electrical engineering major at the University of New Haven, you will study the behavior of electrons in three areas — electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism — as you learn to design, develop, and oversee the operation of electrical and electronic systems.

You will be immersed in a leadership-building curriculum that includes courses in accounting, finance, marketing, economics, quantitative analysis, business law, and data management.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Business Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).  The major allows the flexibility to minor in a wide array of related areas such as entrepreneurship or marketing.

Economics is the study of making choices. It is both a lens and an occupation. As a lens, economics enables us to view, organize, and explain the world around us in a coherent systematic manner. As an occupation, we find its fundamental principles are most often applied in the world of business, although not exclusively. Economics also prepares students for careers in fields as diverse as government service, law, and non-governmental institutions. Importantly, the economics degree offers outstanding preparation for graduate and professional programs.

The University of New Haven’s undergraduate program in economics provides students with the analytical and technical skills that are valued by employers. We place considerable emphasis on providing our students with the wide array of practical skills and acquired intelligence necessary to respond to a changing natural and human environment. In addition to the General Education requirements, the B.A. Economics requires 33 credits. The 33-credit program is comprised of 24 credits of courses required for all B.A. Economics majors and 9 credits from one of two concentrations. The Behavioral Economics concentration entails taking a series of more specialized economics courses leading towards the Behavioral Economics focus. Alternatively, a student can choose to retain a more general and broader overview of Economics through the General Economics concentration

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media will build specialized knowledge and skills related to public relations across a variety of platforms and contexts in addition to acquiring a solid grounding in digital media production.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, campaigns, and persuasion, as well as laboratory and field experiences in digital media design and production along with internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded public relations professionals.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media are required to complete a total of 121 credits as follows.

Program Outcomes

• Students completing the program will be able to demonstrate specific interpersonal and applied communication skills in human communication theory; convergent media production aesthetics, theory and technical areas; media writing and journalism.
• Students will have the ability to be effective team members in newsroom, news websites and public relations firms and offices. 
• Students will be able to complete increasingly complex aesthetic and skill -based projects in print and convergent journalism and strategic communication.
• Students can use industry based software and create real world applied solutions to increasingly complex real and case study problems.

Recognized as a national leader in criminal justice education, the University of New Haven offers an exciting, 36-credit master’s degree program in criminal justice. Students in the program study alongside leading professionals in law enforcement, investigation, politics, forensic science, and law. Internship and research opportunities in the program lead to fulfilling careers in government agencies, court systems, and more.

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.

Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives.  Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and  NSPS 6698 Thesis II. If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698  Thesis II will count toward electives.
