Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Networks

at University of New Haven USA

Overview

The University of New Haven's cybersecurity and networks program is one of the best in the country. Its research, program offerings, multidisciplinary approach, and performance in cyber competitions, among other factors, led to the University being designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) by the National Security Agency. The University is one of only two schools in New England – and 21 in the country – to earn this distinction.

The cybersecurity industry is expected to reach $170 billion by 2020. By 2021, there are expected to be 3.5 million unfilled positions in cybersecurity worldwide. It is impossible to overstate the importance of cybersecurity and network technology to businesses, industries, and government organizations. If their systems and programs don’t run smoothly, business and administration can be slow or even grind to a halt and the financial cost can be devastating. Our program will give you a solid understanding of both practical and conceptual cybersecurity and network technologies, including computer hardware, software, and design issues.

Students take hands-on courses related to networking, network defense, cybersecurity, cyber forensics, mobile device forensics and exploitation, and reverse engineering. Our students are also involved in conducting leading-edge research in cybersecurity, cyber forensics and networking, even as undergraduates.

Our students are in high demand upon graduation, and have been offered opportunities by organizations such as MITRE, Accenture, IBM, Intel, and NTT security.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Music is always being created. But in the ever-evolving relationship between music and commerce, new questions about the commodification of music are being generated, and answers to old questions are being reevaluated:

  • How can music effectively attract listeners?
  • Where will we find the next generation of artists?
  • What are all of the options for monetizing music?
  • How do creators get compensated?

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry is a dynamic program that provides the intellectual tools to address these questions and presents creative opportunities to learn from professionals to craft the answers. Students take a unique balance of courses that prepare you for technology-driven careers in record company operations, touring and concert promotion, artist management, marketing in the digital realm, music supervision, music publishing, and other industry roles.

Music Is the Means, You Discover the Ends

A degree in Music Industry focuses on business and legal concepts as they apply to the commodification of the art form of music. Our program, in combination with courses from the Pompea College of Business, provides students with a foundation in the economic and creative structures of the music industry and introduces them to the varied possibilities to utilize that knowledge.

We believe that, to apply these practices, students should have significant knowledge of and experience with the art form itself. As such, students have a selection of course options in the theory, practice, performance, and histories of music and the processes and technologies for recording music.

Comprehensive instruction in combination with practical internship opportunities and interactions with industry professionals provides students with the 21st-century background necessary for numerous industry opportunities and for pursuing innovative and entrepreneurial business endeavors.

The world runs on systems — transportation systems, food-supply systems, communication systems, government systems, and too many more to mention. These huge systems need men and women with the special talent to ensure they run smoothly. They need "big picture" people — industrial and systems engineers.

That need is steadily increasing as the world’s resources continue to shrink and cost effectiveness becomes paramount. Right now, the demand for industrial and systems engineers is actually greater than the current labor pool.

With an outlook this exciting, you need a program that gives you every advantage in training for the real world before you graduate. The University of New Haven program does that. Collaborating with each other, our engineering faculty, future employers, students, alumni, and business and industry professionals designed and built an innovative program that teaches you to:

  • Apply your knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in designing engineering systems
  • Design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data to improve operations and systems
  • Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints — in other words, the economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability factors
  • Function on multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively
  • Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

Economics is the study of making choices. It is both a lens and an occupation. As a lens, economics enables us to view, organize, and explain the world around us in a coherent systematic manner. As an occupation, we find its fundamental principles are most often applied in the world of business-although not exclusively. Economics also prepares students for careers in fields as diverse as government service, law, and non-governmental institutions. Importantly, the economics degree offers outstanding preparation for graduate and professional programs.

The University of New Haven’s undergraduate program in economics provides students with the analytical and technical skills that employers value. And we place considerable emphasis on providing our students with the wide array of practical skills and acquired intelligence necessary to respond to a changing natural and human environment. Our graduates bring a high degree of critical thinking, solid writing, and presentations kills to their employment field of choice. They are well-adapted, attentive, and prepared to respond to the inevitability of surprise, spontaneity, and innovation.

In addition to the General Education requirements, the B.A. Economics requires 33 credits. The 33-credit program is comprised of 24 credits of courses required for all B.A. Economics majors and 9 credits from one of two concentrations. The Behavioral Economics concentration entails taking a series of more specialized economics courses leading towards the Behavioral Economics focus. Alternatively, a student can choose to retain a more general and broader overview of Economics through the General Economics concentration.

The academic objectives of the program are to provide students with the following:

  • A systemic and holistic approach to problem solving founded on broad-based interdisciplinary knowledge crafted around sound economic principles and skillful use of traditional economics quantitative and technical skills.
  • A strong reliance on the scientific method as the foundation for approaching the understanding of risk and uncertainty in human, social, and natural systems.
  • A general understanding of economics sustainability issues stressing the importance of systemic interactions as the building blocks of the greater world.
  • Inter-disciplinary thinking and collaboration in facing and solving complex issues of the modern world.
  • Highly developed individual behaviors and attitudes towards the natural and social environments based on introspection, reflection, creativity, and the scientific method.
