One of only a small number of such programs in the United States, our master’s program in fire and explosion investigation offers 39 credits* of interdisciplinary coursework in fire/arson investigation, emergency management, public safety, and more. Students in the program study alongside leading professionals in the fire service including current and former fire and police chiefs, homeland security executives, private investigators, and insurance agents. Successful alumni have moved on to leadership positions in local fire departments, state and federal emergency agencies, and private firms.

Students take required courses in topics such as the chemistry of fires, dynamics of structural fires, and arson analysis. Candidates will also chose from a series of electives that explores issues, including fire and building codes, fire scene reconstruction, terrorism, and industrial fire protection.

As an English major at the University of New Haven, you’ll study contemporary fiction and poetry while you explore public speaking and writing for business. The B.S. in Health Sciences combines basic scientific knowledge, healthcare industry specific knowledge, and practical skills for students to be competitive in the 21st century healthcare workforce. The program addresses both the administrative and technical aspects of healthcare as well as the professional, social, ethical, and political elements.  Courses provide broad technical skills as well as the organizational competencies needed for entry level positions in a wide range of healthcare organizations and companies, as well as preparation for graduate study in clinical professions.  In particular, this program aims to provide a broad, interdisciplinary training for students interested in clinical and non-clinical health fields including but not limited to medicine, population health, clinical research administration, and healthcare administration.  The B.S. in Health Sciences also offers two optional concentrations: Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy.  Each of these concentrations focuses on a specific healthcare profession and is designed to prepare students for graduate school in an area of specialization.

All of society’s enterprises - business, governmental, educational, and military - are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex. There is an unrivaled and growing need for skilled managers. Contemporary managers must attend to global competition, understand complex logistical matters, maintain service quality, and continuously improve as they monitor and respond to a rapidly changing business environment. In response to these needs, the management program seeks to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and advance in professional managerial positions in both domestic and international corporations.

The Department of Management offers both a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in International Business - Management. The department also offers a diverse set of concentrations and minors.  Students may choose to complete the B.S. in Business Management without any concentration or they may add a concentration in either Human Resources Management, Sport Management, or Esports Management.  Students interested in the B.S. in International Business - Management should examine that part of the catalog for details.

The objective of the Master of Science in Accounting program is to provide an in-depth framework for artificial intelligence (AI)/analytics, corporate, forensic, and taxation accounting inquiry, devised in structure and content from the entire scope and process of accounting-information-based economic decision-making. The existence of such a framework is intended to provide graduate accountants and professional practitioners with an opportunity to share in the development and assessment of issues of accounting interest within a decision-making context. Additionally, the Master of Science in Accounting program is designed to provide non-accountants and practitioners with the accounting credits requisite for certification.

Program Outcomes:

• Students will demonstrate familiarity with the fundamental concepts and knowledge in their concentration areas of Corporate, Forensic, Tax, or AI/Analytics.
• Students will be able to apply knowledge from 1.1 toward analysis and analyze data using technology and information systems and using appropriate quantitative and analytical techniques.

The world runs on systems — transportation systems, food-supply systems, communication systems, government systems, and too many more to mention. These huge systems need men and women with the special talent to ensure they run smoothly. They need "big picture" people — industrial and systems engineers.

That need is steadily increasing as the world’s resources continue to shrink and cost effectiveness becomes paramount. Right now, the demand for industrial and systems engineers is actually greater than the current labor pool. 

With an outlook this exciting, you need a program that gives you every advantage in training for the real world before you graduate. The University of New Haven program does that. Collaborating with each other, our engineering faculty, future employers, students, alumni, and business and industry professionals designed and built an innovative program that teaches you to:

• Apply your knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering in designing engineering systems
• Design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data to improve operations and systems
• Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints — in other words, the economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability factors
• Function on multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively
• Identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.

Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives.  Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and  NSPS 6698 Thesis II. If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698  Thesis II will count toward electives.
