Overview

The B.S. in Health Sciences combines basic scientific knowledge, healthcare industry specific knowledge, and practical skills for students to be competitive in the 21st century healthcare workforce. The program addresses both the administrative and technical aspects of healthcare as well as the professional, social, ethical, and political elements.  Courses provide broad technical skills as well as the organizational competencies needed for entry level positions in a wide range of healthcare organizations and companies, as well as preparation for graduate study in clinical professions.  In particular, this program aims to provide a broad, interdisciplinary training for students interested in clinical and non-clinical health fields including but not limited to medicine, population health, clinical research administration, and healthcare administration.  The B.S. in Health Sciences also offers two optional concentrations: Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy.  Each of these concentrations focuses on a specific healthcare profession and is designed to prepare students for graduate school in an area of specialization.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Students majoring in Business management have the option of pursuing the concentration in Human Resource Management. Human Resource (HR) positions are in demand.

The goal of the Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resource management (HRM) is to prepare students to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in the main areas of the field of HRM such as workforce planning and talent management, training and developing, leading performance management, motivating and rewarding employees, dealing with labor relations, and creating a safe environment where human resources can thrive and contribute to the growth of their organization. Besides the specialized set of competencies that student will acquire in HRM, they will also be able to develop a solid background in the areas of business management and liberal arts. Graduates of this program will have the ability to assume entry-level management and HR specialist positions in a variety of private, public, and non-profit organizations.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Business Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).  The major allows the flexibility to minor in a wide array of related areas such as entrepreneurship or marketing.

Marine Affairs is an interdisciplinary field that studies the relationships between humans and the marine environment with the goal of achieving sustainability of marine resources, as well as social and environmental justice.

Marine Affairs professionals work to develop better policies and management strategies to address the many complex issues related to human uses of the world’s coasts and oceans. Examples of some of the major issues we are currently facing include natural resource decline, pollution, climate change, impacts of coastal development, among others.

When you pursue a career in Marine Affairs, you will play an integral role in finding better ways to educate and inform the public about these issues and potential solutions.

You'll be prepared to pursue a career with a variety of entities, including government agencies that oversee the management of marine resources (e.g. NOAA and EPA or state and local agencies), as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) interested in creating solutions for the sustainable use of the marine and coastal resources and educating the public about these issues.

You'll also have opportunities with international organizations dedicated to preserving the environment or academic institutions, where you can teach and do research to inform better policies.

In addition, students who major in Marine Affairs go on to pursue advanced degrees in areas such as:

Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
  • Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
  • Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.

In response to these needs, the management program seeks to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and advance in professional managerial positions in both domestic and international corporations.

The Department of Management offers both a B.S. in Business Management and a B.S. in International Business - Management. The department also offers a diverse set of concentrations and minors.  Students may choose to complete the B.S. in Business Management without any concentration or they may add a concentration in either Human Resources Management, Sport Management, or Esports Management.  Students interested in the B.S. in International Business - Management should examine that part of the catalog for details.

The bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity is nationally accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (CAC/ABET).  Its objectives are to inform, challenge, and train our diverse student body for a constantly changing world of technology. This program develops a solid body of knowledge and understanding of computer hardware, software, and theory, as defined by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) curriculum guidelines. The concentration in cybersecurity embodies part of the NSA Cyber Operations requirements.

Students enrolled in this concentration will enter the cybersecurity workforce as cybersecurity analysts, engineers, offensive security specialists, responders, and investigators, depending on their course choices.

The Bachelor of Science in National Security is designed to prepare students to enter the important areas of employment associated with the national security infrastructure of the United States. Graduates of this program will understand the nature and scope of the various national security agencies, the national security strategy, and the connections between the nation’s national security strategy and the policies developed to help ensure our nation’s security. Students in this concentration learn to use the tools and skills employed in the Intelligence Community (IC); develop the analytical foundations to be able to analyze alternative threats to security; to map and model threats using geospatial analysis; and the laws, ethics, and regulations that structure national security operations.

Through this interdisciplinary major, you’ll take courses in political science, economics, national security, legal studies, and history, studying conflict, development, and diplomacy.
