To be successful in the field of accounting, you must not only have a full understanding of accounting principles and the skills to put them into practice but, you also must be an expert in the sub-disciplines within accounting.

That’s why our program is focused on preparing you for a career that requires significant exposure to — and a firm grasp of — these sub-disciplines:

AI/Analytics concentration (STEM-certified): Develop a competency for data analysis and the tools used in auditing, predictive modeling, forensic accounting, and business operations analytics, equipping you with the skills need to succeed in a cutting-edge field in the modern American marketplace.

Corporate concentration: Refine your accounting skills for a career in either a publicly held or private company. Learn about financial, managerial, taxation and International accounting and taxation standards and procedures and how to apply them to various entities.

Forensic concentration:  Learn about investigative accounting, valuation theory and practice, fraud examination, building the skills you need to work in the growing field of forensic accounting

Taxation concentration: Build the skills you need to advise clients regarding the tax law. This track concentrates on federal income taxation as it relates to corporations, partnerships,  and limited liability companies.

The Hotel and Resort Management Concentration focuses on training students to fulfill management-level careers in hotel and resort industries. After gaining functional business competencies, students specialize in areas that are critical to success in a range of leadership and managerial positions within hotels, restaurants, spas, resorts, clubs, and theme parks. Students in this concentration are exposed to several experiential learning and industry collaboration opportunities.

Students earning a B.S. degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a concentration in Hotel and Resort Management are required to complete 121 credits, including the University core curriculum (41 credits), Hospitality and Tourism Management major requirements (36 credits), Hotel and Resort Management concentration (12 credits), Writing Across the Curriculum elective (3 credits), fieldwork (2 credits), service requirement (1 credit), internship (3 credits) and free electives (23 credits).

The bachelor of science in fire science is offered with a choice of two concentrations to allow the student to major in fire science and specialize in an area of interest. The concentration areas are fire/arson investigation and fire administration.

Program Outcomes:

• Students can analyze and manage multi-hazard emergency conditions, and make appropriate strategic, tactical and task decisions to mitigate the incident.
• Students can establish an incident command system at an emergency in accordance with national standards.
• Students can identify causes of fires within the community and establish appropriate fire prevention strategies
• Students understand the role of a fire officer within the local government and can apply knowledge of leadership, organizational issues, regulations and standards to ensure organizational effectiveness in the administration of a fire fighting company, battalion or department.
• Ability to make strategic and tactical decisions relating to management of a fire service organization in the areas of budgeting, project management, contract negotiations, discipline and conflict resolution.

Speech-language pathologists assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent communication and swallowing problems in children and adults. Successful speech-language pathologists understand the scientific, social, and clinical aspects of communication and care for patients with disorders of articulation, language development, voice, swallowing, feeding and other issues. Graduates of these programs practice in a wide range of settings including:

• Schools and other educational settings
• Acute care hospitals
• Long-term care and rehabilitation facilities
• Clinics and doctors offices
• Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs)
• Skilled nursing facilities

When you major in marine biology at the University of New Haven, you are surrounded by diverse marine ecosystems teeming with life and just waiting to be explored. Starting with your first semester, you will be on and in the water, exploring and learning.

You will have the opportunity to take advantage of our close relationships with local aquariums, museums, nonprofit organizations, and federal and state research laboratories, and you will benefit from faculty-mentored research opportunities.

You will learn about our world's oceans, marine environments and organisms, and how humans interact with these systems in our broad, comprehensive program by:

• Integrating diverse courses as you gain hands-on and research-focused experience
• Studying invertebrate and vertebrate marine animals, marine botany, oceanography, and marine ecology
• Personalizing your course of study to meet your career goals
• Exploring career opportunities within the large and diverse field of marine science
• Complementing your coursework with internships, summer research opportunities, or a yearlong senior research project
• Broadening your horizons as you experience other habitats and cultures through study abroad and study away opportunities. (Students travel to Australia, South Africa, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Gerace Research Centre on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.)

Candidates are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graduate work, which may include an internship in national security. Transfer credit from other institutions may be permitted subject to the Graduate School policy on transfer credit detailed elsewhere in this catalog.

Students in the program are required to complete 18 credits of core courses and 18 credits of general electives.  Students must complete a capstone requirement of either NSPS 6693 - National Security Internship I or NSPS 6697 Thesis I and NSPS 6698 Thesis II.  If the six credit thesis option is selected, NSPS 6698 will count toward electives.

Program Outcomes:

• Develop a working knowledge of the most prominent features national security with an emphasis on the United States’ national security enterprise.
• Acquire a foundational understanding and awareness of issues related to cyber security and information protection.
• Formulate original research through graduate-level thesis or acquire practitioner work experience through an internship.
• Evaluate and design policy solutions to contemporary national security problems.

Finance data sets and tools similar to those used by financial firms. Competency with the tools, such as the Bloomberg, allows you to gain a good internship and a good job.

Become a CFA.  We have CFA review courses. Our faculty will help you with Level I and Level II exams.

Strong connection to local finance professionals.   In addition to our outstanding faculty, we draw in professionals from the securities industry to guide students.

Several courses have integrated the CFA® curriculum as provided by CFA Institute and are based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) from the CFA® Program. Topics in these courses assist students in preparation for the CFA® exam.*

The College offers state-of-the-art resources such as the Bergami Learning Center for Finance and Technology, providing Bloomberg Professional™ real-time trading information and hands-on financial management experience.

Music is always being created. But in the ever-evolving relationship between music and commerce, new questions about the commodification of music are being generated, and answers to old questions are being reevaluated:

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry is a dynamic program that provides the intellectual tools to address these questions and presents creative opportunities to learn from professionals to craft the answers. Students take a unique balance of courses that prepare you for technology-driven careers in record company operations, touring and concert promotion, artist management, marketing in the digital realm, music supervision, music publishing, and other industry roles.

A degree in Music Industry focuses on business and legal concepts as they apply to the commodification of the art form of music. Our program, in combination with courses from the Pompea College of Business, provides students with a foundation in the economic and creative structures of the music industry and introduces them to the varied possibilities to utilize that knowledge.

We believe that, to apply these practices, students should have significant knowledge of and experience with the art form itself. As such, students have a selection of course options in the theory, practice, performance, and histories of music and the processes and technologies for recording music.

Comprehensive instruction in combination with practical internship opportunities and interactions with industry professionals provides students with the 21st-century background necessary for numerous industry opportunities and for pursuing innovative and entrepreneurial business endeavors.

The tools and machines that mechanical engineers have designed throughout history have lightened our loads, improved our quality of life, and taken us from the far reaches of outer space to the inner workings of minuscule nano devices. In the University of New Haven’s ABET-accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering program you will join that long line of pioneers, using your skills to design, analyze, improve, and test the products and systems that are essential to everyday life -- and to create those that don’t yet exist.

Through our program, you’ll build a multidisciplinary foundation in mechanical, chemical, civil, and electrical engineering and develop skills in physics, chemistry, and mathematics as well.

All of it provides the basis for detailed study in mechanical engineering, in which you will:

Homeland security and emergency management focuses on protecting the country and responding to – and recovering from – man-made and natural disasters. Our program is extraordinarily unique because it combines two important areas of study into one. This model is what employers are looking for.

We are cross-training students to provide you with a well-rounded picture of what is going on in the world today. We'll instill in you the skills to respond appropriately to these challenges and the ability to navigate complex issues. You can choose to focus your degree in either homeland security or emergency management, or complete both tracks.

In the homeland security track, you'll prepare for careers at the federal, state, or local level by:

• Exploring complex issues of immigration and border security
• Becoming knowledgeable about potential threats to the nation's critical infrastructure
• Studying transportation security and weapons of mass destruction
• Learning to respond to threats of terrorism

In the emergency management track, you will learn to manage and coordinate the multi-agency response to and recovery from man-made and natural disasters by:

• Mastering the tools and methods involved in emergency management
• Learning the principles of fire science technology
• Exploring concepts in hazard risk management, hazard mapping, and modeling
