Accountants have the critical task of providing a comprehensive picture of a company’s financial health so that business owners can make informed decisions that directly impact their company’s bottom line. That is why the field of accounting is a breeding ground for business leaders. In fact, John D. Rockefeller, widely considered the wealthiest American of all time and the richest person in modern history, starting working at age 16 as an accountant. Today, more than half of Fortune 100 CEOs have a degree in business, economics, or accounting.

As an accounting major at the University of New Haven, you’ll participate in a well-rounded education that goes beyond the numbers. You’ll learn how to impart technologically-driven insight and even solve white-collar crimes.

The program offers three tracks. You will choose one of the following:

• Financial accounting: This is the track if you want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• Corporate accounting: You’ll develop the skills necessary to thrive in the corporate environment and become a CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
• Forensic accounting: Focus on financial crimes, including investigation and white-collar crime, through coursework in accounting and through the world-renowned Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management degree without a defined concentration affords students more elective choices and therefore enables students to add a minor from within the College of Business or from other Colleges in the University if they so choose

Program Outcomes

•     Students will apply general business knowledge to hospitality business operations and growth.
•     Compose written work that demonstrates application of business concepts in the Hospitality and Tourism  disciplines.
•     Develop a solution for a business/operations problem identified with a real-world organization from the Hospitality and Tourism industries.

•    Evaluate how changes in the global market for hospitality and/or tourism impact key issues related to sustainability.

With challenging, professionally-oriented courses in classroom settings, students quickly develop the skills necessary to provide ground breaking solutions to complex environmental problems through an interdisciplinary study of environmental protection issues, water quality and purification, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, site remediation, and emission control measures.

Small classroom sizes equipped with state-of-the-art technology provides graduates with a uniquely personable learning experience while a required project facilitates in-depth exploration of contemporary environmental issues that challenge our ever-changing world.

The B.S. degree in business analytics prepares students for careers that use data to support and inform business decision-making and management. Students learn skills in a natural progression including assembling and managing data, displaying data, uncovering patterns in data, developing predictive models, and using these models to make better decisions across all business domains. Business analytics skills are in demand across a wide range of industries including healthcare, sports, marketing, finance, consulting, supply-chain operations, and information technology. Students are encouraged to develop expertise in a functional business discipline such as supply-chain management, health care management, marketing or finance using elective coursework.

The sport management concentration teaches students to utilize their quantitative analytical skills to make informed and accurate decisions in the sport management sphere.

Students earning a B.S. degree in business analytics are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).    Further clarification and additional requirements are outlined below:

Recognized nationally as a leader in experiential education, the University of New Haven offers an intensive, 30-credit master’s degree program in mechanical engineering. Take advantage of hands-on study both inside and outside of the classroom with studies in thermodynamics, computer-aided engineering, advanced fluid mechanics, system vibrations, and more. Course study is enhanced through a number of interactive, state-of-the-art facilities including our instrumentation laboratory, thermo/fluids laboratory, solar testing and training laboratory, and more.

You will also have the opportunity to choose between a project or thesis option to complete your program with a focus on an area of research of your choosing. You will enjoy small, personalized classes with an average of 15 students per class.

Experience the Program with Hands-On Application
Mechanical engineering students can choose the topic for their research projects. A group of students recently opted for the highly relevant and newsworthy topic of renewable, alternative energy sources for their project. Their work explored solar heating of domestic hot water systems, wind turbine energy, and heat pipe theory as it relates to evacuated solar collectors.

As a chemical engineer, you will transform matter or energy into forms that benefit human beings. You might design clean energy solutions, do research and development in pharmaceuticals, or create new ways to feed the world’s growing population.

The foundation you will build in chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics – and your collaborations involving engineering disciplines such as computer science, and mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering – will prepare you to rise to the challenges that face both the modern-day chemical engineer and the world. Those challenges — hallmarks of the early 21st century — include environmental integrity, limited resources, and human safety.

As a Chemical Engineering major at the University of New Haven, you will:

• Learn to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

• Design and conduct experiments in state-of-the-art laboratories, then analyze and interpret data
• Master modern techniques, skills, and engineering tools

• Participate in a Senior Design course, where you will complete a team project using current chemical engineering technology
• Have the opportunity to join on-campus clubs and organizations, including University of New Haven chapters of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers as well as the Forensic Science and Chemistry Club

• What are all of the options for monetizing music?
• How do creators get compensated?

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry is a dynamic program that provides the intellectual tools to address these questions and presents creative opportunities to learn from professionals to craft the answers. Students take a unique balance of courses that prepare you for technology-driven careers in record company operations, touring and concert promotion, artist management, marketing in the digital realm, music supervision, music publishing, and other industry roles.

A degree in Music Industry focuses on business and legal concepts as they apply to the commodification of the art form of music. Our program, in combination with courses from the Pompea College of Business, provides students with a foundation in the economic and creative structures of the music industry and introduces them to the varied possibilities to utilize that knowledge.

We believe that, to apply these practices, students should have significant knowledge of and experience with the art form itself. As such, students have a selection of course options in the theory, practice, performance, and histories of music and the processes and technologies for recording music.

Comprehensive instruction in combination with practical internship opportunities and interactions with industry professionals provides students with the 21st-century background necessary for numerous industry opportunities and for pursuing innovative and entrepreneurial business endeavors.

As a criminal justice major at the University of New Haven, you’ll join one of the nation’s most established and diversified criminal justice programs. It’s a program that allows you to customize a major that fuses your interests with pragmatic, sought-after learning opportunities that will lead you to a successful and fulfilling career in this challenging and rewarding field.

You will gain an acute understanding of crime-solving and public safety issues as you learn to not only navigate the intricate fields of criminal justice but also shape the future of our justice system.

Students majoring in Business management have the option of pursuing the concentration in Human Resource Management. Human Resource (HR) positions are in demand.

The goal of the Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resource management (HRM) is to prepare students to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in the main areas of the field of HRM such as workforce planning and talent management, training and developing, leading performance management, motivating and rewarding employees, dealing with labor relations, and creating a safe environment where human resources can thrive and contribute to the growth of their organization. Besides the specialized set of competencies that student will acquire in HRM, they will also be able to develop a solid background in the areas of business management and liberal arts. Graduates of this program will have the ability to assume entry-level management and HR specialist positions in a variety of private, public, and non-profit organizations.
