As technology continues to expand into every field and industry, from the environment to education to politics, the market for skilled hands-on technicians grows increasingly competitive. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Computing was designed to produce graduates who can perform programming, software engineering, graphic applications, networking, and operating systems management in a variety of environments, while at the same time promoting power skills such as business communications, ethics, and project management.

The applied nature of the degree implies that graduates will have the competencies to solve real-world business problems through the application of technology. Its curriculum puts a deeper focus on fundamental computer science, software engineering, tech security issues, computing solutions for business problems, and data management. A poll of industry representatives indicates that they see a skills gap in computer and information technology related positions which the multidisciplinary focus of this degree would fill.

The STEM-Designated MS in Management—Professional Accounting (MS-PA) program is the logical capstone degree in accounting for a student with an undergraduate degree in accounting. Students are advised to enter the program immediately after earning their undergraduate degree in accounting to in order to build on their current knowledge.

The MA in Language, Literature, and Translation (MALLT) is an interdisciplinary MA degree program focused on global languages, literatures and translation. With over 50 faculty from five different departments, MALLT offers a flexible program of study tailored to your professional goals. Three departments—French, Italian and Comparative Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature and Translation & Interpreting Studies cooperate in offering this interdepartmental, interdisciplinary master’s program designed for the student who wishes to focus on language, literature, and translation on a cross-cultural basis.

Marketing is a key factor contributing to the success of any business organization. It is the dynamic and creative process of the development, pricing, promotion, and distribution of products and services to satisfy customer and organizational objectives. Effective marketing requires an integration of eclectic knowledge and the skills pertinent to understanding consumer behavior, planning and analyzing marketing research data, thinking strategically, and managing people.

Students learn how marketing supports an organization's objectives; how to examine consumer motivation and behavior; how to price, promote, and distribute products and services; and how to plan and analyze market research data to make good decisions.

Graduates of the marketing major find an exciting and broad spectrum of career opportunities in brand/product management, industrial selling, retailing, sales management, advertising, marketing research, customer-service management, and other areas.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology offers a Crime Analytics Concentration at the master’s level. A sequence of courses will lead to a concentration in this growing area. Preparation includes a foundation in criminal justice, research methods, and criminological theory. It also includes specialized coursework in measuring crime, crime mapping, and analytic techniques for understanding crime and crime patterns. At the conclusion of the program, students will complete a crime analytics project to demonstrate their mastery of crime analytics.

The charge of the Voice Area is to teach skills for future success in music, to offer solid vocal technique and knowledge of vocal health. This training is built upon a foundation of history, theory, and a varied repertoire of vocal music. A spirit of genuine collaboration both within and outside of the voice area offers experiences in many musical styles, fostering future performers, pedagogues and leaders in the arts.

Everyone is part of multiple social groups. Your local community, your ethnic group, your religious organization, your state, your club or team—these are all examples of groups to which you might belong. The Sociology major at UWM offers students a chance to better understand these groups and the people within them. Students explore the social causes and consequences of human behavior, including topics such as political movements, population shifts, housing patterns, racism, gender inequality, the legal system, the medical profession, crime, families, sexuality, workplace organization, food cultures, and more.

This concentration is designed for the music student with an undergraduate degree in piano who wishes to specialize as a collaborative pianist in the vocal repertoire.

While prospective students are not required to submit Graduate Record Examination scores, they are strongly advised to take these tests before or early in their graduate work if they wish to be considered for a UWM Distinguished Graduate Student Fellowship or if they plan to continue their graduate work after completing a master’s degree at UWM.

Preparing students for careers in cataloging, indexing, metadata work, or archival organization in a wide variety of settings, including libraries, archives, museums, private corporations, government agencies, and other organizations, the Information Organization (IO) Concentration provides a way for you to formally focus your studies on information organization within the context of your MLIS degree program and its requirements. The Concentration includes a mixture of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, and will be posted on your transcript upon degree conferral.

The School of Information Studies prepares students for careers in libraries and the information professions. The School’s array of graduate programs provides students with the opportunity to develop attitudes associated with progressive information services, and to develop an understanding of the value, role, and application of modern technology as it relates to library operations and the transfer of information.

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Technology offers a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy that prepares students to become occupational therapists. During the program, students engage in graduate-level instruction embedded in the theory, research, and clinical underpinnings required to become evidence-based occupational therapy practitioners. Students may select a thesis option or project option in pursuing this degree. Students who are interested can choose to combine elective courses from the OT program with other courses on campus to receive the transcript-designated concentration in assistive technology and accessible design and/or ergonomics.

Assistive Technology and Accessible Design
The Concentration in Assistive Technology and Accessible Design is an interdisciplinary program designed to meet the demand for assistive technology and accessible design specialists. The College of Health Science’s Departments of Rehabilitation Sciences and Technology and Communication Sciences Disorders, along with the School of Education’s Department of Teaching and Learning, collaborate on the course offerings. The concentration emphasizes technologies for disability.
