The Bachelor of International Public Health is designed for students who are interested in improving the health and wellbeing of populations across the globe, and in the prevention of disease and disability. Public health focuses on improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of communities, with an emphasis on prevention among large groups of people.

This degree focuses on supporting you to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to investigate local and global public health problems, as well as the ability to design and implement innovative new approaches to emerging issues. It will provide you with a solid understanding of the different health needs of communities, the social and environmental factors that influence health and how to reduce the risks and inequities.

This three-year degree will expose you to a range of public health challenges designed to prepare you for a variety of roles within the field of public health, as well as support you to develop your skills in critical thinking, research, communication and leadership.

Medical science is the foundation that the practice of medicine is built on. This degree delves into how the human body functions and responds to disease and drug treatments. It incorporates facets of several scientific disciplines to provide you with an extensive understanding of the human body.

The Bachelor of Medical Science explores:

• The structure and chemistry of the cells that make up living organisms (cell & molecular biology and biochemistry)
• The structure and function of the human body (anatomy and physiology)
• The general processes leading to disease (pathology)
• The role of bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms in disease (microbiology)
• Drugs which are used to cure human diseases (pharmacology)
• The way in which our form and function is inherited (genetics)
• The processes of development from the fertilised ovum (embryology)
• The natural defences of the body (immunology)
• The structure and function of the brain (neuroscience).
• This degree provides the basis for a career in biomedical research and is also an appropriate first degree if you’re planning to progress to graduate medical or paramedical degrees.

Molecular Biology

Molecular Biology is a marriage of biochemistry, microbiology and cell biology. It will have an increasingly important role to play in many aspects of modern medicine, genetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology and genomics.

The Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Media is a four-year double degree that shows you how to enlighten others with creative thinking and persuasive communications. Learn strategies to interest, inform, and inspire others while challenging conventions and designing new solutions to old problems.

Computational Design (Major)

When you study Computational Design at UNSW, you’ll learn to approach challenges differently through design-thinking. You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies, including 3D modelling, digital geometry and parametric design, responsive environments, AR and VR, and robotic and digital fabrication using 3D printers and laser cutters.

Through design thinking and computational design theory, you’ll hone critical-thinking and communication skills to create inclusive designs for diverse contexts. As part of our supportive Arts, Design & Architecture community, you’ll be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, gain professional experience, and take advantage of programs that support entrepreneurship and innovation. You’ll have the opportunity to work on real-life projects set by UNSW’s partners in the built-environment, architecture and design industries such as Cox, Arup, Hassell, BVN, Bates Smart, PTW Architects, Grimshaw, Mott McDonald, and Aurecon.

The Bachelor of Science (International) focuses on a science major as well as cross-cultural skills, knowledge and understanding. It includes study overseas at a UNSW partner university and you'll receive financial assistance to help fund your exchange.

The wide range of majors available from UNSW Science will give you a solid education in scientific theory, methods and research. Integrated design
Integrated designers place people at the heart of their work. Drawing from diverse design skills and methods, integrated designers engage with a range of materials, encounters, and forms of visual communication in their everyday lives. Integrated designers create insightful solutions using critical thinking, research, making skills and an awareness of industry needs.

The integrated design specialisation strongly focuses on solutions that respect human diversity and environmental sustainability while building skills in multiple areas of design. You'll choose at least two of these areas from graphic design, object design, textiles, experiences, interaction (UX), and 3D visualisation.

We'll introduce you to this range of design disciplines, starting with the fundamentals. Working in state-of-the-art studios, you'll build core skills grounded in deep reflection on diverse historical, social, cultural and technological values.

Start by choosing two design study areas outlined below, then decide which program structure suits your goals. (See 'Program structure' for more information.)

Graphics
Graphic design uses the skills of typography, image making, colour and design systems to develop effective and inspiring visual communications. Apply creative thinking to brand identities, innovative packaging, visually striking publications, and graphic design in 3D spaces. You’ll develop strong portfolio projects that demonstrate your voice as an emerging designer. 

Object
Object design works with different materials to create tangible and meaningful items – including but not limited to jewellery, furniture and ceramic design.

Fundamental hands-on classes explore materials before moving on to digital prototypes with 3D printing and cast designs. You’ll also understand different contexts and discover how object design gives people opportunities for social and meaningful interactions.

Textiles
Textiles tell stories and solve problems, whether applied to fashion, interior, exterior or product contexts. In this highly experimental program, you'll explore creative approaches to making meaningful materials. Journey through hands-on textile making traditions and contemporary technologies to develop your own innovative practice. You will gain knowledge in sustainability and social engagement to analyse contemporary issues, and learn how to respond to professional design briefs responsibly, ethically and with cultural acknowledgement.

Experience
Experience designers transform spaces for people. They design memorable and meaningful environments with the intention of creating connection. Be it social connection or the connection of audiences to content, experience designers draw on human centred design principles to develop unique spatial outcomes, understand and integrate digital technologies and craft atmospheres that move people. With application across a wide range of industries, the design of activations, exhibitions and events relies on critical engagement with cultural contexts, neuroscience, materials and modelling, with a sprinkling of spectacle.

In this program, you'll experiment with a diverse range of design methods that contribute to a practice that ideates and creates evocative environments that surprise, delight and, ultimately, engage participants.

Interaction
Explore fascinating emerging smart technologies – think voice assistants, robots, and mixed reality (for example, animated Instagram or Snapchat filters). Using these emerging technologies, you'll create a project demonstrating your understanding of human capabilities and user needs. But not before learning User Experience (UX) fundamentals in web and mobile.

Gain industry standard skills to meet people's needs with designing apps, software, products, websites, environments, and services. You'll develop practical and professional design processes through case studies and projects from concept to testing. 

3D Visualisation
Discover the world of 3D technologies including real-time (or gaming) systems and virtual environments. Understand how to create objects and environments before creating a sophisticated and explorable 3D world. Learn through live, hands-on experiences of key technologies and understand how to conceptualise through design thinking. Build the theoretical knowledge for high-level art direction while developing professional skills in 3D modelling, CGI lighting and rendering.

The Bachelor of Computer Science/Fine Arts double degree provides technical and creative foundations for developing and using computer graphics and coded media. It allows you to specialise in either the technical or creative strand of computer graphics and associated fields.

Designed for students aspiring to work in the creative fields, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is for those who are open minded, curious, and inventive and who wish to immerse themselves in their creative practice. The BFA is home to distinctive specialisations in Animation and Moving Image, Art Theory, Music, and Visual Arts, each of which is led by experts in your field and supported by specialist facilities.   

You'll build technical skills and knowledge, learning from experts in practical and theoretical classes. And with strong industry connections embedded in each specialisation, you'll develop your career throughout the entire degree.

The Master of Global Health/Master of Public Health (Extension) is an innovative approach to postgraduate health education, enabling you to specialise in public health in international developing country contexts as well as Australia and other developed countries. This program meets a well-recognised need to strengthen public health capacities within Australia and internationally.

The Master of Global Health is a sought-after qualification in international health. The Master of Public Health (Extension) will provide an opportunity to extend your studies by completing additional courses and a research project in public health. Studying this combination of degrees will cultivate sophisticated knowledge and skills in public health that you can apply to a broad range of highly complex population health issues in local and global settings.
