These different specializations allow you to focus your career path during your second year. There are 60 credits of required courses that are common to all specializations (typically scheduled in year one for on campus students). Applicants declare their specialization at the time of applying to the program.

Human Resource Management Specialization
Graduates can anticipate applying their business management skills in areas relating to personnel administration: staffing, training and development, labour relations, compensation management and collective bargaining. Employment opportunities are available in industrial, commercial and government organizations.

You may choose to complete your first year of any specialization at either the Parkland (Dauphin) or Victoria Avenue East campus (Brandon), however only the second-year of the Accounting and Human Resource Management specializations are available at our Parkland campus. All four specializations are offered in full at Assiniboine's Victoria Avenue East campus.

The two-year Legal Administration diploma is for the students who want to prepare for a career in justice, law or real estate and incorporates procedural knowledge of Canadian legal processes in private and public law, comprehensive technical vocabulary, legal transcription in police offices and courts and higher lever administrative training. Besides, the students also learn how to chair meetings, take effective minutes and the PClaw Software.

Be recognized as a confident office professional in the legal industries. Develop your skills in legal terminology, Microsoft Office Suite, customer service and the creation of industry documents that today’s employers desire. Prepare for a stimulating career in law, justice or real estate with this two-year diploma. Understand Canadian legal processes in public and private law, gain higher administrative training, and acquire experience transcribing for police departments and court rooms. Passion for the outdoors makes you a great candidate for a career in natural resources. This exciting program brings together natural resources, technology and the environment in an agricultural context. Understand the interconnection between our water and the land. Learn how to protect, manage, sustain and conserve natural habitats for wildlife and humans.

With Land and Water Management, you will often be out in the field, examining key features of the prairie agro-ecological landscape. Become skilled at monitoring and evaluating the quality of rural land and water resources, and at managing activities so that those resources are used sustainably. You will use environmental monitoring equipment to study water, land and air conditions.

Consider a career as a water manager, habitat specialist or environmental technician. You may also find a position in research, management, consulting and administration of sustainable land use practices. This 11-month certificate prepares you for a cutting-edge career in Canada’s growing meat processing industry. Learn all aspects of the trade, including nutrition, safety, tools, workplace values and essential communication skills. Enjoy a newly built, modern teaching lab with all the trimmings. Develop skills in curing and smoking for all types of animal protein, including poultry, beef, pork, goat and lamb.

Graduates find opportunities in public accounting firms, banks, trust companies, accounting and internal auditing departments in industrial firms, federal, provincial or municipal offices, school divisions, parochial schools, tribal councils, non-profit organizations and health care institutions, and in owner-managed businesses as business/office managers. Many graduates choose to continue their education.

The Media and Communications two-year diploma program gives you the opportunity to excel in a hands-on career in television, radio or film. Learn all facets of the industry and then specialize in what you like best. Our experienced instructors push you to develop your narrative craft, tackle news reporting, and master technical skills. 

Learn how to communicate compelling stories—multiplatform journalism can be found here. Write a story from start to finish, but have the ability to put it into a range of audio and visual formats, including podcasts, documentaries and broadcasts. Develop your passion for television or radio, and hone your craft across a wide range of audiovisual environments. Learn to write, announce, shoot, record, edit and produce. In your final term, focus on an area most interesting to you and develop your niche interest.

Study emerging visual technologies that extend, replace and enhance our realities (virtual, augmented and mixed reality applications). Learn the fundamentals of programming, both the back-end and front-end development of websites, as well as mobile app development. Create and customize the delivery of web content on desktop computers and mobile platforms.

Our experienced instructors encourage you to develop your digital craft, to learn new and better ways to create interfaces and apps that are impactful, results-oriented and interesting. Gain skills in project management, persuasive communication and proposal writing, as well as in writing, designing, image editing and coding web, mobile, animation and basic game development.

Every assignment in this program has a purpose: constantly create, collaborate and communicate. During your Capstone, choose a project to focus on, and then develop and present an integrated, creative and independent project.
