WHY STUDY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE (BTECH) AT DAL?
When you study Landscape Architecture at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus in Truro, N.S., you'll learn scientific concepts and horticulture and design principles. Guided by experienced faculty members, you'll also learn how to apply these principles to the creation of innovative, sustainable residential neighbourhoods, parks, conservation areas, historic sites and more.

Real-world design projects require students to confront current challenges including climate change, ecosystem disruption and the need for sustainable human settlements. Project work emphasizes inclusion and the equitable treatment of all people, and celebrates human diversity.

What will I learn?
Students learn about ecological processes, plants, construction and maintenance methods, graphic communication and plan making for construction documents and landscape history. In a series of four design studios students apply their learning and develop their ability to shape natural, built and cultural places. Courses enable students to understand problems and design solutions that meet high standards for function, sustainability, aesthetic value and meaning.

Students develop new skills through hands-on learning activities in surveying, arboriculture, landscape installation and landscape maintenance. You will also develop the ability to create maps, models, and images used in professional portfolios and presentations. Program courses include:

What will I learn?
Your first two years are dedicated to core courses in Management Issues, Accounting, Marketing, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Government Structure, Data Literacy, Economics and Statistics.

In your third and fourth years, you'll choose electives to tailor your degree to your strengths and interests. Choose from one of five majors (Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Leadership and Organizations; Managing Data and Information (formerly Knowledge Management); Public Sector Management; or Environment, Sustainability and Society) to focus on your area of interest, or stay flexible by doing a general Bachelor of Management degree without a major.

The optional paid internship for Bachelor of Management students is a minimum of 32 weeks (approximately eight months) of consecutive, full-time work experience related to your studies. It takes place between your third and final academic year.

You can supplement your degree with certificates in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Leading People and Organizations, Knowledge Management, Marketing Management, Public Sector Management, Intercultural Communication, Interdisciplinary Health Studies or Disability Management.

Psychology encompasses all aspects of human and animal behaviour. Dalhousie offers the largest Psychology department in the region and you'll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in research. In addition to offering insight into the way people think and behave, our program will provide you with skills in critical and analytical thinking that will serve you in any of your future career paths.

What will I learn?
If you’ve ever wondered why we do the things we do or how people think, behave and interact with others, then you’ve wondered about topics studied in psychology. When you study psychology at Dalhousie, you'll learn about experimental design, statistical analysis, brain function, language development, learning mechanisms, psychopathology and treatment and more.

In your first year of study, you'll take introductory courses in psychology and neuroscience to provide you with a foundation for more in-depth studies in upper years. Fourth-year students will have the opportunity to complete their own honours research project to discover topics that are of personal interest.

Graduates of the program work in various fields as they can apply principles of economics to anything. The program helps you to shape public life and society as you may work as a policy advisor, politician, or business consultant. 

You'll have the alternative to pick courses that are more designed for the sociologies instead of the math side of the financial hypothesis. So, there is a characteristic association among math and financial matters that may rouse you to fabricate your math aptitudes. 

Ever wonder why volcanoes erupt? Or where the best diamond deposits are—and where new ones are going to be formed? Or maybe you're curious about why our climate is changing. The discipline of earth sciences play a crucial role in answering questions like these about today's complex world. Studying earth sciences gives you insights into the Earth's evolution, composition, processes, and future.

Field work is an important part of Dal’s Earth Sciences program. You'll explore the fascinating and diverse geology of Nova Scotia, or take part in an off-site computing camp. Taking Advanced Field School provides you with opportunities for in-depth study abroad, in countries such as Italy, Chile, or England. Materials engineering is indispensible in supplying materials to any industrialized nation. Materials engineers look at how materials are made; how and why certain materials are chosen for the manufacturing of different products like computers or cars; and how materials can be improved. 

Metals and materials are found in every aspect of society today. Materials have always been central to the advancement of civilization so it is not surprising that entire eras are named after them (bronze age, iron age). The importance of developing new, advanced materials is truly a global issue with societal demands for things such as more fuel efficient vehicles and faster computer processors reaching all time highs. Materials Engineers are the driving force behind such developments, having an unsurpassed understanding of the respective structure, properties and processing of materials. Consequently, graduates are employed in practically all industries. Principals amongst these are primary metal production, automotive, aerospace, government research establishments and consulting firms. Literally all graduates find immediate employment - historically, over 70% have secured full time positions before the start of their final academic term. These niche individuals are highly respected within the companies that they work for and many advance into upper managerial and executive positions.

Chemical Engineering combines the principles of mathematics, chemistry and physics with engineering practices in order to improve the human environment. Chemical engineers deal with the transformation of raw materials into products we use every day – from soaps and cosmetics to plastics and food processing. Chemical Engineers have been long been regarded as the most versatile of all engineers; yet many opportunities exist to specialize in a particular area.

WHY STUDY MARINE BIOLOGY AT DAL?
The sea's the limit
If you’re passionate about the ocean, Dalhousie is where you want to be. We’re a national leader in marine biology education and research. You’ll learn in the classroom, lab and out in the field. You could find yourself on the water studying the behaviour of sperm whales, running your own underwater experiments, examining the diet of grey seals or assessing the diversity of marine birds.
What will I learn?
There’s no better place to learn about the ocean than right here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. You’ll venture out to the ocean, both on shore and on the water. You’ll observe examples of Atlantic Canada’s spectacular marine life. You’ll get first-hand experience in various research methods, like gathering live samples and collecting and assessing data. These are just a few of the advantages of studying marine biology at Dalhousie.

During your first two years, you’ll take general biology courses and foundation-building science courses. In third and fourth year, you’ll explore the ecology, diversity, physiology and other aspects of marine animals and plants in greater depth. Many marine biology students combine their studies with courses in chemistry or physics of the ocean, which are offered through the Department of Oceanography.

The Bachelor of Technology Environmental Landscape Horticulture is designed to prepare students for a career in the landscape horticulture profession. It will prepare students to work successfully in the diverse landscape industry or to create their own business within the industry. Years one and two of the program are satisfied by the successful completion of the Diploma of Technology - Managed Landscapes or a two year landscape-related program approved by the Department of Environmental Sciences. Students who wish to pursue graduate studies should take RESM 4006.03 and RESM 4007.03.
