The dynamic field of Human Resources is critical in today's competitive environment. Companies now recognize that strong management of their human resources provides a competitive advantage and leads to organizational success. This program is designed to provide university and college graduates with essential business skills and a strong foundation in Human Resources. Students also complete a four-month full-time work term gaining valuable work experience and insight into the Human Resources profession.

In the first term, students complete courses that provide them with the necessary knowledge of all the major business disciplines including marketing, accounting and technology. In subsequent terms, students complete all of the courses necessary to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam which is required to obtain the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation (http://www.hrpa.ca) at an additional fee.

The program provides students with exposure to all areas of the Human Resources field. Students benefit from small class sizes, hands-on active learning and faculty with diverse experience in all facets of Human Resources. Partnership with the local chapter of the Human Resources Professional Association gives students an opportunity to develop their networking skills and learn about working in the profession.

Co-op students have the opportunity to apply classroom learning to the workplace. Co-op placement opportunities help students gain valuable work experience that may assist them in finding permanent employment after they graduate. The Lambton College Sport Business Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate prepares graduates for careers in the exciting and ever changing sport business sector.

With a Canadian sport industry focus, the curriculum enables graduates to be leaders in management and operations in this exciting industry. The program’s curriculum prepares graduates with knowledge and skills in sport marketing, sales, sport sponsorship, event bidding and planning, facility operations, human resources, finance and administration. Experiential learning is built into the curriculum allowing students to apply skills and knowledge to projects with organizations and clients in the sport industry and expand their business leadership skills through collaborative team projects. Graduates may find employment in a variety of sport business professions.

The Occupational Health & Safety Management Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is a multi-disciplinary program that is designed to encompass a broad range of knowledge in occupational health, safety and environmental management systems that are critical to an organizations success. This program provides students with a strong health and safety foundation by developing the competencies required for the effective development, implementation and evaluation of health and safety systems in occupational settings.

Emphasis is placed upon learning the application of legislation and recognizing, controlling and evaluation workplace hazards. This program will enable students to become leaders in health and safety by motivating proactive behavioural change. Students will anticipate and employ strategies to manage emerging health, safety and environmental issues while examining accident theories, emergency response planning, ergonomic principles, risk management principles and the promotion of workplace safety and wellness.

With an ever increasing need for agricultural business employment, the Lambton College Agri-Business Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is designed for students who wish to enter a career in the agricultural sector at the supervisory level, or to manage relationships in an agri-business environment typical of a sales or other agricultural services role.

In this multi-disciplined program, students utilize existing related education or experience to learn and apply a variety of skills to help operate and manage an agricultural business. Students develop a foundation of business skills, including communications, accounting, human resources, relationship managing and marketing strategies that apply to the Canadian agricultural industry of today. With the rapid adoption of agricultural technology, students study the impact of this technology on farm operations, as well as on other applications, from software to farm machinery.

To round out the learning, students study environmental farm management to gain a deeper understanding of the production of food, feed, and fuel as well as livestock physiology and health, pest control management and new and emerging agri-business technology. This hands-on program will include a real-world course on farm machinery to provide a robust understanding on farm equipment operations and safety.

Graduates of this program pursue careers as managerial accountants, financial analysts, tax professional, auditors and small business controllers.

Students in this program receive a well-rounded and thorough education in important aspects of business such as human resources, law and marketing in addition to the comprehensive accounting courses taught by Lambton's accounting faculty who bring a wealth of industry experience and all hold the Chartered Professional Accountants designation. There is a focus on developing strong communication, planning, teamwork, and analytical skills while studying accounting theory and practice, financial statement analysis, cost management and control, taxation, and computerized accounting systems.

Experiential Learning Opportunities 
Because practical work experiences are vital, students are given the option to participate in a co-op work experience in term 5. This provides exposure to a business environment and valuable work experience in the accounting field. In the final year of the program students utilize all their knowledge, skills, and abilities gained over the duration of their program in the Entrepreneurship capstone courses. Through a series of culminating reports and presentations, students showcase their knowledge, skills and abilities to corporate partners who provide feedback and enhance this experiential learning opportunity.

Environmental Technicians, specializing in water and wastewater, are in demand in Ontario for a variety of sectors including mining, the public service and private industry. The Environmental Technician – Water & Wastewater Systems Operations College diploma is a fast-track to qualification for employment as a licensed drinking water operator in Ontario. In addition, this program shares a delivery of courses with Northern College and as such, certain lectures will be delivered remotely via a virtual classroom.

Students enrolled in this program will train in Lambton College’s new Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies. The Centre offers state-of-practice technology laboratories and infrastructure to support learning and research in next-generation technologies in collaboration with industry.

The program has an innovative delivery model, allowing students to graduate faster – in two years instead of three – by combining theory and practical systems operator experience, in conjunction with three co-op work terms.

Students can expect to be exposed to both operating water treatment facilities and pilot-scale systems during their studies. The conversion of raw water to safe drinking water is the goal and students are immersed in every step of the process.

The curriculum focuses on preparing students to write the Ontario Operator-in-Training examinations and the Drinking Water Operators Entry-Level Course through the Walkerton Clean Water Centre and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. In combination with the co-op work terms, graduates will obtain the practical experience required to graduate with a Class 1 Operator license.

The food industry finds itself responding to consumer demands for more refined, sophisticated, and convenient products with an increased responsibility for processors in terms of food safety and quality assurance standards. To help support the ever increasing demand to attract highly-skilled workers to the growing food and beverage processing industry in Ontario, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management, Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides extensive, hands-on training for careers in food and beverage processing, safety and quality assurance. This four term, full-time program is designed for students with previous degrees or diplomas in related sciences, engineering or food safety, and will add to previous education and skills that directly apply to the food processing environment.

Curriculum focuses on principles of food safety and quality assurance standards applicable to the Canadian food and beverage processing industries. Food Chemistry and Microbiology, Food Safety Management Systems, Sanitation along with an in-depth review of Canadian and International Food Laws and Regulations are the core elements of this program. The program offers a unique blend of theoretical and practical knowledge including a co-op/project term to allow students to integrate in the Quality Assurance management team.

Graduates will have strong knowledge of food and beverage processing procedures, sanitation practices, HACCP principles, health and safety practices, food safety standards, as well as good communication, leadership and problem solving skills.

Salon and spa service providers across the globe are looking for qualified Estheticians to work with their clients. Our graduates set themselves apart from the competition by training in one of the largest training labs in Canada, with state-of-the-art facilities that prepares them for this growing profession.

The Esthetician program is an Ontario College Diploma offered over three consecutive terms. A graduate from this program will have completed an official two-year Ontario College Diploma in only 12 months.

Students learn a full range of spa services including semi-permanent hair removal, body treatments, makeup applications, manicures and pedicures. Curriculum emphasizes general business, sales, professionalism, and health and safety.

Students graduate with a recognized Ontario College Diploma and over 600 hours of practical hands-on experience while training at The Spa at Lambton, as well as comprehensive in-class education from qualified and experienced instructors. The Spa at Lambton is a live practical lab where students provide esthetic services and practice business skills in preparation for spa management or ownership. Clients from the community eagerly await the opening of The Spa every semester.

Students have the opportunity to take a field placement course that exposes them to many different esthetic locations including retail based operations, day spas and more. This experience allows them to familiarize themselves with a variety of potential work environments. It is also a great way for students to make valuable connections with potential future employers.

Throughout Canada only certified Power Engineers are permitted to operate, maintain and manage equipment such as boilers, compressors, turbines and refrigeration units. Lambton College’s newly renovated closed loop 107 KW power generation plant operates exclusively as a training facility and is located in Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies. This is the only training unit of its kind in Ontario and students work collaboratively to generate and operate the power plant. In addition, the Centre also offers many other state-of-practice laboratories including distillation pilot plants, water treatment facilities, computer simulators, electrical and control systems and much more. You will gain knowledge and skills of plant operations and maintenance focusing on the 4th Class level in year one and the 3rd Class level in year two.

There are 4 different levels of Operating Engineer status granted by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), each level involving more complex tasks which qualify individuals for higher level employment. The first two years of Lambton College’s Power Engineering curriculum will make up the Power Engineering Technician, or PETN program. This program follows the curriculum of the standardized Power Engineer’s examination committee (SOPEEC) and prepares students to write the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) examinations for 4th, 3rd class certification.  

Steam Time Reduction
Importantly, successful completion of our unique curriculum will allow students to qualify for “steam time reduction”. Steam time reduction decreases the time required working in industry to qualify for their Power Engineering certification. Students who successfully pass their 1st and 2nd term courses qualify for a 9-month steam time reduction. Students who complete the 4th Class Power Engineering certification, including both TSSA examinations (4A & 4B) and obtain a 4-month CO-OP prior to the 3rd and 4th academic terms will qualify for 11 months of 3rd Class steam time reduction. Successful completion of the PETN program along with that CO-OP will result in a reduction of 20 months of steam time towards 3rd class certification.

With ever-increasing numbers of aging people requiring assistance to continue a full life and with changes to the way health care services are delivered, the need has never been greater for Occupational Therapist Assistants and Physiotherapist Assistants.

The Lambton College Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist Assistant, Ontario College Diploma program will train students to help people of all ages as they strive to recover and regain functional independence from injury, trauma, surgery, or chronic health conditions or illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, arthritis and mental illness. Students learn how to assist in implementing treatment plans that promote a client's independence in activities that are important to them.

This new and exciting program is being offered in the newly opened NOVA Chemicals Health & Research Centre. The unique program curriculum will engage students throughout a four-term program, as students learn how to assist clients to achieve their health goals. Students develop the ability to work with both professions as they focus their studies on occupational therapy and physical therapy education. The integration of in-class studies with hands-on experience is accomplished through rich experiential lab opportunities and practice in a variety of clinical fieldwork placement settings.

As with many other health-related fields, this program is suitable for compassionate, empathetic students who possess a concern for the well-being of others.
