The interdisciplinary Disability Studies program offers B.A. options at the three-year, four-year, and honours level. Disability Studies is cross-disability (all disabilities rather than one), intersectional (disability in conjunction with race, gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.), and based in the social model of disability rather than the bio-medical model. From this perspective a lack of ramps is considered disabling, not the fact that someone uses a wheelchair.

The focus of the Disability Studies program at the University of Winnipeg is the critical analysis of disability in society. This includes the study of disability as a social, cultural, historical, and political construction. Students are encouraged to examine a wide range of topics such as human rights, ethics, social movements, theory, family, sexuality, employment, socialization, aging, education, international development, and gender issues.

The Health Informatics (HI) major provides students with more focused courses in Health information needs, infrastructure, standards, and jurisdiction. This stream has been designed in close cooperation with Manitoba e-Health. Sample courses include:

• Principles in Information Systems (Health Centric)

• Health Internship
• Applications of Database Systems
• Introduction to Internet Programming

Applied computer science is the study of how and where computers work. It includes designing hardware and software, building database and operating systems, and programming for the internet. UWinnipeg’s program covers each of these areas, giving you an understanding of how they connect to create vast networks. In the four-year major, you’ll gain practical experience and build teamwork skills as you take on a team-based software project for a local IT company.

Applied Computer Science - Health Informatics Stream
The Health Informatics(HI) stream provides students with more focused courses in Health information needs, infrastructure, standards, and jurisdiction. This stream has been designed in close cooperation with Manitoba e-Health. The HI stream includes upper year courses to address specific needs of the Health industry, e.g., Health Care information requirements and standards, regulatory environment, clinical terminologies, standards and professional practice. The HI stream complements offerings of the ACS department, and gives students flexibility of combining all three areas of IT, Business, and Health.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (4 years):-

The four-year BBA prepares students for managerial work and also for further study in business administration such as an MBA or other graduate degree program.  In the four-year program, you can (and many students do) elect to take a 'general stream' degree, which allows maximum flexibility for course selection. Other students elect to narrow their studies into their choice of five Areas of Concentration:

• Marketing
• International Business
• Co-operative Enterprises
• Accounting
• Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour

It is not unusual for students to pursue two Concentrations simultaneously (e.g., Marketing and International Business) in our four-year program.

Democracy began in Greece. The Roman Empire rose and fell. There were extraordinary achievements in art, literature, and philosophy in both Greece and Rome. All this is highlighted by the legacies of great writers such as Plato, Sophocles, Virgil, and Cicero. Ancient history is surprisingly pervasive in today's cultures, religions, movies, literature, politics, journalism, and advertising. If you have a desire to understand our modern world, studying Classics is an ideal way to begin.

Classics is the study of Greek and Roman culture, society, and history through a variety of disciplinary approaches: archaeology, philology (the study of Latin and ancient Greek), literature, art history, social history, political history and thought, philosophy, religion and mythology.

Are you interested in obtaining an education organized around questions of social justice, global citizenship and human rights? Consider our new major in Human Rights – the only one of its kind in Western Canada. Through this multidisciplinary program, you will have an opportunity to explore issues of human rights in a context defined by globalization. This major is offered through Global College.

Sample Program
This is only one example of one possible path through the program. Students should normally begin with  2102 and 2002 and then take 3101. After that, they may take CW courses in any order.  Paths will differ, depending on students' interests, the number of courses they take each year, and which courses are offered in any given year. This program gives you an opportunity to study the rich heritage of the Mennonites and their contribution to society. Mennonite Studies is an interdisciplinary program that combines studies in history, religion, culture, and literature as they relate to Mennonites.

A major in Mennonite Studies focuses on the Mennonites' culture of nonviolence, history of migration, and struggle to define themselves as an ethno-religious group.

Welcome to the History of Art programme at the University of Winnipeg. We are a dedicated group of scholars committed to the study of art, broadly defined, as it reveals the past and informs the future. Drawing on the experience of our scholars, the expertise of local curators and a rewarding relationship with the local arts community, together we are able to deliver a strong, vibrant and practical curriculum focussed on excellence, accessability and innovation.

The Applied Computer Science major is designed to prepare students in the following core areas: Programming Fundamentals (object-oriented, event driven, algorithms), Information Management (database systems, data modeling, data warehousing, relational databases, query languages), Software Engineering (software requirements and design, software process, software project management), Operating Systems, Net-Centric Computing (Internet programming, networks, security), Human Computer Interaction (GUI Design and Programming), Intelligent Systems (Machine Learning). Our team-oriented courses are meant to strengthen communication skills, experience group dynamics, and foster self-confidence. The 4-year major includes the development of a team-based software project for a local IT organization. Our program will help develop analytical thinking and applied skills by blending theoretical and practical aspects of computer science. The Applied Computer Science major is designed to provide an excellent basis for graduate studies in either computer science or applied computing.
