Bachelor of Arts - Canadian Studies is an interdisciplinary program that allows students to study Canada from a full range of disciplinary perspectives. It examines both the past and the present from political, economic, social and cultural disciplinary perspectives. Courses that focus on Canada in the Faculty of Arts are drawn from Anthropology, Economics, English, French, History, Icelandic, Labour Studies, Political Studies, Religion, Slavic Studies and Sociology. In addition, certain courses in other faculties including Art History and Geography and Environment, are also available form Canadian Studies credit.

As a major in human resource management at the University of Manitoba, students will learn how to help companies recruit and select qualified people, effectively train and develop a workforce, generate effective total compensation systems, manage employee performance and employee relations, foster and maintain an engaged workforce and promote talented people through the organization. When these activities are done well, organizations are suitably prepared to accomplish their strategic directives, and are staffed with the right people in the right positions at the right time – a motivated and committed workforce who work together to build the organization’s success.

Film Studies at the U of M provides students with a unique opportunity to create a feature length film, as well as make short films, working with their peers in a collective context which is an experience very different from that at other institutions. Our faculty have broad mix of scholarly and practical expertise in areas that address multimedia issues in areas like film and surveillance, documentary, and television. Faculty teach a mix of courses on topics such as film aesthetics, video gaming, international cinema and filmmaking every year. Our students all have access to the Media Lab, a post-production space that offers students the use of cutting-edge software and an extensive DVD lending library. Our film production equipment includes up-to-date digital cameras, sound recording technology, a Steadi-Cam harness, and more.

The Judaic Studies program warmly welcomes Jewish and non-Jewish scholars and students. The program offers fascinating insights into the societies and cultures Jewish people have been part of from Biblical times to twenty-first century Canada. Judaic Studies promotes the study of Jewish civilization, Jewish religious expressions and traditions, and of Jewish cultural, social, and political formations and movements in all their variety. For Jewish students, Judaic Studies is a way of exploring their heritage and building on previous study of Jewish languages, history and texts.

Agroecology specializes in the management and conservation of our natural and agricultural resources. Agroecologists develop environmentally friendly weed, insect and disease controls and also help farmers conserve their land and protect Canada’s wildlife and water supply. 

The Bachelor of Science (Agroecology) is the ideal program for students with a passion for our planet. Students will learn the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how to achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.

Co-op programs
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if a student takes more work terms in winter).

Biosystems Engineering brings engineering to life by integrating life sciences with engineering, from the molecular to the ecosystem. Biosystems engineers help to create new technologies for the well-being of humans and animals, and the preservation and enhancement of natural resources and the environment. The main areas of study are environmental engineering, bio-processing (food and pharmaceutical), bio-environmental control, bio-medical engineering, soil and water engineering, agricultural equipment, and light structures. Biosystems Engineering also provides an excellent pathway to the Faculty of Medicine.

The Art History program offers students an opportunity to consider, in a cultural context, both Western and non-Western artistic traditions with an emphasis on the former from the Renaissance to the present. While all courses acknowledge methodological issues, the program also offers courses in art theory and criticism at the second and third-year levels. Students enrolled in this program broaden their knowledge of art production with studio electives.

The BFA Honours degree allows you to complete an additional year of study including art history and optional studio electives.

To transfer into the honours program, you must first successfully complete 69 credit hours of study in the Art History general program, with a degree GPA of 2.5. If you are a current student and wish to transfer to the BFA Art History honours program,

The Bachelor of Nursing is offered in a community that is characterized by a mosaic of cultural groups. The curriculum gives students a solid base in theory. Clinical practice allows students to apply their skills and techniques in actual care-giving environments so that our graduates view people in their entirety when providing a service essential to community health and welfare.

Historical study explains the past to the present and illuminates the present through the past.  The History curriculum offers students opportunities to discover, understand, and assess past time and change over time.  Historical study develops strong writing skills and critical analysis.  As well, it provides training in skills of intellectual enquiry and judgment to prepare for students’ future lives.  In addition, the curriculum prepares graduates who will become professional historians.
