Everything around us leaves an impression. In this way, spatial information exists in all aspects of human activity. In Geodesy and Geomatics, you’ll analyze data about the Earth’s surface to solve complex problems. This  specialized field of study is useful in many circumstances, including: fighting climate change, creating tsunami warning systems, urban planning, constructing pipelines, operating navigation systems, understanding public health, recreating crime scenes, and numerous other examples. 

The Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering program is available as a major or minor as part of a four-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. The Faculty has been preparing graduates for success in their engineering careers since 1854, when UNB was the first university in Canada to introduce an engineering program. 

Why Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering at UNB?
UNB is one of only two certified Geomatics programs in the country. Our world-class education and research on the subject has resulted in a 100% employment rate for our students.

Our graduates have gone on to help design and build bridges, make cleaner fuels and next-generation wireless communications tools. Researchers in the Faculty are developing technologies to help improve satellite imagery used by Google Earth and the Canadian Department of National Defence. Others are helping develop biofuels and renewable energy.

Software engineering goes beyond programming.  It’s about developing, writing, testing, implementing, and maintaining software systems. It’s the foundation of all computer systems. In other words, our digital world depends on software engineering.

In UNB’s Software Engineering program, you’ll learn how to develop and maintain reliable, safe, affordable, and efficient software systems that satisfy customer requirements. You’ll also gain the skills and knowledge needed to work on large and expensive software systems that often have safety-critical applications.  

Software Engineering is a joint program in the Faculty of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The program is available as a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

Our program is the only Software Engineering program in Atlantic Canada accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), and one of only 14 CEAB-accredited programs in Canada. Learning the French language provides a wealth of opportunities for your future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. The Department of French welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics.

We offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Québécois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.).

Our linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.

The Film Studies Minor offers students from all faculties the opportunity to study film (and video) from a variety of perspectives, including theory, history, and analysis, as well as a range of topics around national cinemas and genres, among others. In addition, students have the opportunity to study film from creative and practical perspectives in production and other practice-driven courses as well as creative writing for the screen. A Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BScF) is about trees, plants, water, and wildlife management – the atmosphere, soils, and landscapes. It’s about people’s beliefs and values. It’s about the economy and about spirit. BScF is about managing all these in sustainable ways. It’s about solving complex problems for the benefit of current and future generations.

Why Forestry at UNB?
The BScF program at UNB is one of the oldest in Canada and has been offered for more than 100 years. We have a deep history in producing graduates who are much sought after in the industry, and many have gone on to become leaders in the field. We are the only English Faculty of Forestry in Atlantic Canada.

Hands-on learning
You will learn outdoors in our university’s forests, including the 1,500-hectare University Forest near the Fredericton campus. You will also collaborate on projects with the scientists and managers at the nearby Atlantic Forestry Research Centre and at the headquarters of the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources.

Finance is about finding the most effective way to use the money you have, the money you'll make, and the money you'll spend.

UNB’s Finance program will teach you how to plan, manage, and analyze an organization’s financial activities and make important investment decisions that will maximize profits. You’ll learn about key business principles, such as investments, budgets, and mergers and acquisitions, and you’ll explore how individuals and businesses use resources over time.

UNB’s International Business concentration attracts students interested in working for a multinational corporation or for an organization that deals with distant markets. Our program explores the challenges and opportunities facing global enterprises and focuses on subjects like accounting, finance, and economics. One of the first programs of its kind in Canada, Media Arts & Cultures (MAAC) at UNB has offered students a dynamic mix of critical media studies and hands-on creative coursework since 1996. As a MAAC major, you will learn about media by making media. You will consider, critique, and engage intellectually with media, but you will also learn the tools and techniques used today to create media content.

MAAC combines elements of the liberal arts and fine arts – critical thinking and creative expression. Like all Arts majors, you will write research papers and give presentations, but you will also make videos, media remixes, animations, blogs, and video games.

In Media Arts & Cultures, we'll teach you to be both a critical consumer and a creative producer, both a scholar of media and an author of media. You will not only learn from reading textbooks but also from screening a film or playing a game - and then making one yourself.

Hands-on learning
Media Arts & Cultures emphasizes experiential learning throughout the program. You will combine courses in the history and language of film with courses in film production. A course in game studies that examines philosophical reflections on play and games in western culture can be paired with another on contemporary video game design. 

Gender and Women's Studies gives students an opportunity to explore gender issues in an interdisciplinary context, and it offers a useful complement to other fields. The required courses provide a framework for understanding the gender-based aspects of knowledge, power, and society.

Gender and Women's Studies represents a new approach to knowledge; it examines the gender-based aspects of human experience and women's roles in society. Gender and Women's Studies includes a wide variety of academic disciplines and professions.

Bachelor of Arts
The Gender and Women's Studies program is available as a major, double major or honours option as part of a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree. Courses in the Faculty of Arts cover a broad range of subject areas concerned with the study of human beings and the evolution and nature of global societies, ideas, and institutions. In your first two years of the program, you will select courses in fields like humanities, languages, social sciences as well as science and business to provide you with a broad foundation for advanced study in your chosen subject area during the final two years.
