Linguistics is the scientific study of all forms of human language. It is a search for the patterns of sound, word-form, phrase structure, and meaning that underlie the languages we use. Linguists concern themselves with the structure of language: all forms of human language and the search for the patterns of sound, word-form, phrase structure and meaning that underlie language we use.

The languages and linguistics program is taught by faculty members in a variety of areas within the University. The Department of Indigenous Languages, Arts and Cultures, First Nations University of Canada (including the three full-time Linguistics faculty) offers a large number of courses; other linguistics courses are offered by the Faculties of Arts and Education.

The therapeutic recreation bachelor’s degree program at the University of Regina will prepare you for a unique health career as a recreation therapist. What Is Therapeutic Recreation?
Therapeutic recreation uses a person-centered approach, focusing on strengths, and applies recreation and leisure theory to improve quality of life and well-being. 

The classes in the U of R’s Bachelor of Sport & Recreation Studies Therapeutic Recreation degree program include:

• Therapeutic Recreation Foundations, which is an introduction to therapeutic recreation, and covers its theoretical foundations and how it developed as a profession
• Therapeutic Recreation Interventions, which examines the intervention process and the forms of interventions and strategies used to bring about changes in physical, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning for persons with disabilities, limitations or age-related conditions
• Therapeutic Recreation: Mental Health and Addictions, which explores mental health and addictions through a therapeutic recreation lens. Students will learn about the range of mental health and addictions-related conditions and the impact of therapeutic recreation treatment on rehabilitation and recovery.

The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The four-year Bachelor of Arts program in music is a liberal arts degree. It includes studies in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, with a focus on the study, analysis, and history of music. What is Environmental Systems Engineering?
Our Environmental Systems Engineering (EVSE) program is very popular with students and respected by industry, largely because of its timely combination of environmental concerns and the systems approach to addressing civil and industrial environmental issues. Areas of study include environmental system design and impact and risk assessment.

Our Program
The Environmental Systems Engineering (EVSE) program demonstrates and applies systems engineering principles to environmental issues associated with water resources, air pollution, transportation, industrial development, and waste management.

Mathematics is one of the oldest sciences. Although there are many applications of mathematics, the subject seeks to resolve questions whose answers will deepen our understanding of, and reveal new insights into, mathematics itself. The inherent structure and elegance of mathematics are features of the subject that are difficult to surpass in other sciences.

Mathematics also differs from other disciplines in that its advances come through the application of pure reason (by way of the human mind) rather than through observation (by way of scientific instrumentation). Consequently, mathematics builds upon its past achievements and develops independently of technological advancements.

Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
Graduates of this program will be proficient in the uses of mathematics, especially calculus, matrix algebra, differential equations, probability, and statistics. You will also be exposed to computer science and higher level mathematical reasoning in the form of mathematical proofs.

Software Systems Engineering’s objective is to train students to study, analyze, design and develop different software systems including web-based software systems, transaction-based systems, interactive multimedia systems, and management information systems, and to become knowledgeable in the process and life-cycle aspects of software development. The program also aims to teach students to apply computational theories to real-life programming techniques; analyze requirements; design, implement and test software systems; plan and manage software projects; solve technical problems; practice co-design and embedded systems construction.

Students can complete the qualifying university requirements for the Chiropractic program at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). Students are required to complete a minimum of three years (90 credit hours) of undergraduate university study in any discipline prior to admission to the Chiropractic program. Although there are no specific required courses, CMCC does recommend courses in specific subject areas. The Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) at the CMCC is a four year program following admission. The CMCC welcomes applications from Canadian and international students. The courses completed at the University of Regina as part of this program can be used toward variety of degree programs at the University of Regina.
