Studying Chemistry at the University of Regina
Chemistry is one of only six subjects that has been taught since the University of Regina began as Regina College in 1911. Full chemistry degree programs may have begun in 1974, when Regina Campus became the University of Regina.

We offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate programs have strong hands-on components as many courses include laboratories developed and overseen by four full-time laboratory instructors. Junior and senior students also benefit from small classes (5 - 25 students).

Actuarial Science is the application of mathematics, statistics, and risk theories to the design of insurance and pension programs.

Actuaries' areas of expertise are extensive and involve a wide range of business aspects such as operations research, finances, economics, investment analysis, analysis of medical risk, accounting, legal and regulatory aspects of insurance and pensions, among others. In other words, actuaries apply mathematical skills to the business environment, and they are experts in risk management. The actuarial profession offers continuous challenges and it requires a strong mathematical ability along with proficiency in various business skills. It is also a rewarding career with excellent opportunities for intellectual development and financial gain. The Actuarial Science Program provides students with a strong facility in actuarial methodology and applications. There is 12 month internship program that is also available to students.

Graduates from the Actuarial Science Program have close to 100% hiring success in the Actuarial Industry. The BSc in Actuarial Science is the only program of its kind in Saskatchewan, and it is one of only 11 programs nationally that are accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Research

• Experiential learning occurs through job placements. There is 12-month internship program that is available to students.

Start small and walk before you run with the Diploma of Business Administration (DipBA). The DipBA is a two-year program that provides an overview of all areas of business administration, and courses completed in the DipBA can be used towards the course requirements for the four-year BBA if you decide to transition into a degree.

The MA program in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies is designed for students interested in literature, language, translation, linguistics, terminology, applied linguistics, gender and cultural studies, and the history of ideas. The program covers French, Quebec, French-Canadian and postcolonial French literatures. For French-Canadian studies, collaboration with the Institut français, the Department of History, Women's Studies and the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC) and other units makes possible linguistic and cultural studies of French communities in Western Canada.

This program gives you the tools to plan, set up and conduct chemical analysis and experiments and develop chemical products. It is designed for students who have an interest in combining chemistry, plant production, and technology. You will build upon logical and innovative thinking skills and write technical reports.

The purpose of this MA program is to give graduate students in English the opportunity to complete an MA that has a creative writing emphasis and requires the submission of an extended creative work. At the same time, it will be a degree that requires a substantial amount of work within the field of English, which we also see a valuable part of the education of creative writers. It is hoped that the degree will be the foundation for careers in creative writing and editing. It is aimed at students who have aspirations in this field but have not had the rather more extensive professional experience involved with gaining admission to an M.F.A. degree.

Gerontology is the study of the social, psychological, and biological aspects of aging. It includes the study of changes in adults as they age, the ways that society changes with an aging population, and how we apply this information to programs and policies for older adults. Software Systems Engineering’s objective is to train students to study, analyze, design and develop different software systems including web-based software systems, transaction-based systems, interactive multimedia systems, and management information systems, and to become knowledgeable in the process and life-cycle aspects of software development. The program also aims to teach students to apply computational theories to real-life programming techniques; analyze requirements; design, implement and test software systems; plan and manage software projects; solve technical problems; practice co-design and embedded systems construction.
