The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

Geography and environmental studies differ from other subjects due to their emphasis on space, place, and how humans connect and interact with their environment. Major global challenges of our time, such as climate change, depletion of natural resources, water availability, migration, war and conflict are better understood and addressed by those who have an in-depth knowledge of geography and environmental studies. The subject is diverse and is based on both natural science and social studies.

What is Geography and Environmental Studies?
Geography and Environmental Studies encompasses three areas:

• Human geography
• Physical geography
• Environmental studies

Human geography analyses the way humans use and understand the world and addresses the spatial differentiation and organization of human activity and its interrelationships with the physical environment.

Physical geography—a component of Earth sciences—is the study of the natural processes that occur at and above the surface of the Earth.

Geography is one of mankind’s earliest scientific disciplines and studies the environment – everything that surrounds us, including human beings.

Environmental Studies encompasses the study of the planet and its intricate variety of living and non-living elements and processes, how human beings connect with the physical structures, institutions and economies we build, and the politics, language and culture by which we communicate.

The Teaching, Learning, Leadership (TLL) is a course-only Master's degree program that was designed by teachers for teachers. Nine out of the ten courses are designed to be taken in any order for maximum flexibility. All of the classes are offered online. Most are also offered face-to-face so students can opt to take all of their program online, or a combination of online and face-to-face. There is one foundational course in Curriculum and Instruction (EC&I 804) and Educational Leadership (EDL 819) to provide a broad overview of these two areas. There are 6 elective courses, enabling students choice.  Students can select elective courses to create a "specialty", for example, opting for leadership (EDL)  electives provides an in-depth experience in one particular area OR students can take a range of courses to suit their individual professional goals. Given the importance and relevancy of anti-oppressive and Indigenous education, the program template offers a suite of anti-oppressive and indigenous education classes, ensuring every student has a learning experience in this area. The final course is a capstone seminar class that will be a culminating experience to bring both a reflective and forward looking perspective to round out the coursework and look beyond this degree.

The major areas of specialization are in manufacturing, control, process engineering and energy systems. Activities include CAE, Facilities design, Quality control, Performance evaluation of manufacturing systems, Fatigue analysis, Vibration and noise analysis, Design and manufacturing of pressure vessels, Non-linear dynamics fracture mechanics, Modeling/simulation/ design/ implementation of robotic human powered , Sensor-based motion planning, Optimal control, Artificial Neural networks, Virtual reality, Artificial/Computational sapiens (wisdom), Metabotics, Greenhouse gas technology control including Solubility of gases in liquids, PVT studies, Mass transfer with chemical reactions, Kinetics, Corrosion and degradation, Calorimetry, Physical and transport properties measurements, Pilot plant design and operations, Fuel cells, Biomass, Modeling and simulation of industrial systems, Renewable energy studies dealing with wind and solar energies.

The film and video studies program results in a liberal arts degree where you will focus on media studies while developing skills in critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, decision making and communication. You will also develop transdisciplinary knowledge and a strong awareness of culture.

In the health studies bachelor’s degree program, you will gain a broad understanding of how determinants of health shape the wellbeing of people, families and communities. This includes experiences of illnesses and diseases, but also what people need to live healthy lives.

The MEd in Curriculum and Instruction degree is designed for licensed teachers seeking to become learning specialists in a selected area of the field of education, to advance within their career and to meet professional development renewal requirements. This option is made available to those students who, as teacher-librarians, have a specific interest in this area of education. Our growing capacity to network with other institutions via technology makes it possible to include graduate level courses for teacher-librarians.
