The Master of Public Policy (MPP) provides students with opportunities to conduct research and contribute to the study of public policy and the application of policy expertise in the real world. Students graduating from this program possess the research skills necessary to play integral roles in the civil service, research organizations and industry associations. Top students from this program may go on to doctoral programs in public policy.

The MA program in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies is designed for students interested in literature, language, translation, linguistics, terminology, applied linguistics, gender and cultural studies, and the history of ideas. The program covers French, Quebec, French-Canadian and postcolonial French literatures. For French-Canadian studies, collaboration with the Institut français, the Department of History, Women's Studies and the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC) and other units makes possible linguistic and cultural studies of French communities in Western Canada.

The purpose of this MA program is to give graduate students in English the opportunity to complete an MA that has a creative writing emphasis and requires the submission of an extended creative work. At the same time, it will be a degree that requires a substantial amount of work within the field of English, which we also see a valuable part of the education of creative writers. It is hoped that the degree will be the foundation for careers in creative writing and editing. It is aimed at students who have aspirations in this field but have not had the rather more extensive professional experience involved with gaining admission to an M.F.A. degree.

Programs in physics at the University of Regina encompass the study of pure and applied physics, and medical physics.

The University is a member of the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory in Vancouver, and has a close relationship with the Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia, USA. As of January 1, 2010, the University became a member of the Southeastern Universities Research Association. This honour was in recognition of two decades of productive research by U of R physicists at Jefferson Lab.

Research
Our programs offer experiential learning in the classroom and lab. Our students spend time at TRIUMF and the Jefferson Lab, gaining experience with large, experimental physics facilities. Undergraduates have the opportunity to do their own, independent research projects, learning alongside graduate students and experienced faculty, while our graduate students can build their skills working closely with supervisors who will guide and support their growth as researchers.

Visual arts covers a broad range of two- and three-dimensional media such as sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking, among others. You will work alongside professors and instructors who themselves are curators, artists, researchers and critics and are active in the Canadian art community and beyond.

Showcase your work at the Fifth Parallel Gallery on campus or at Regina's renowned Mackenzie Art Gallery. Advance your skill, with professors and fellow students acting as mentors and study the theory and history of your medium and the greats who came before.

The Department of History offers graduate work leading to the MA degree. With the approval of the department, MA candidates may undertake research in the areas of Canadian/the Americas, or Europe/World. The resources of the University and Legislative Libraries, the City of Regina Archives, the University of Regina Archives, and the Saskatchewan Archives Board are of particular value to researchers working in the field of Western Canadian History.

The Department of History also offers a Special Case PhD in History. The Special Case PhD may be taken only in fields in which the department has the strength and depth to offer the requisite supervision based upon the specialized knowledge of faculty members.

Increasingly, humans are inhabiting areas of both natural and human-made geological hazards. In order to prepare for and manage potential hazards, we need to know more about the natural geological processes that affect them. New generations will need to know more about the earth to make the best decisions for humans’ well-being.

Geology emphasizes solid earth science and applications in mineral and oil and gas resources. It can be divided into two areas of concentrations:

• mineral exploration
• oil and gas exploration

Environmental geoscience focuses on applications in environmental studies.

Our programs have a well-rounded curriculum that promotes a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the earth sciences across all sub-disciplines, combined with extensive hands-on training, field-oriented class exercises, regular use of the Saskatchewan Geological Survey’s subsurface core repository, and two intensive field school courses. Our programs have an established reputation for training highly qualified graduates.

What is Geology and Environmental Geoscience?
Geology is the study of the processes and physical structure of the earth. Environmental Geoscience is the study of the geological and geographic composition of the environment and the forces that shape the earth.

The U of R’s geology and environmental geoscience programs are highly relevant to today’s world, where human societies require more and more mineral resources and energy sources from the earth. At the same time, environmental issues, including climate change, resource depletion, scarcity, and pollution are increasingly constraining sustainable economic development and affecting our living environment.

At the University of Regina, students can complete the pre-pharmacy requirements for the College of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan. Students are eligible to apply to the University of Saskatchewan after the completion of 30 credit hours of specified courses. Pre-pharmacy courses completed at the University of Regina can be used toward a variety of programs at the University of Regina.

The Department of Physics at the University of Regina offers programs leading to the B.Sc. and B.Sc. Honours degrees in Pure and Applied/Industrial Physics degrees in Experimental and Theoretical Subatomic Physics. Co-operative Education programs with local industry play an important role in our undergraduate degree programs.
