In this Bachelor of Arts program, students complete coursework in the basics of linguistics, such as phonetics (sound patterns), morphology (how words are built) and syntax (sentence structure), as well as how humans use language, such as pragmatics (language in context) and sociolinguistics (language and culture). Offered by the School of Middle Eastern & North African Studies, this Bachelor of Arts program makes an excellent double major, preparing students for successful international careers. As students become proficient in Arabic - widely considered a critical language for the U.S. - they also learn dialects such as Moroccan and Egyptian. Students earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance with an emphasis in the French Horn learn from and interact with the Fred Fox School of Music's esteemed faculty. Dedicated to honing student talent, the faculty members are equally at home in the classroom, studio and on the stage. Along with individualized instruction and mentoring, performance faculty members regularly appear in solo recitals and as guest artists with major opera companies, symphony orchestras, chamber groups and other ensembles. The school offers students a variety of musical experiences from technical instruction to performing opportunities and presents hundreds of concerts a year.

A focus on applied mathematics prepares you to enter the job market with an undergraduate degree or to attend graduate school for science or engineering. Applied mathematicians use mathematical models to solve complex problems. Students earning a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with an Applied Mathematics emphasis engage in interdisciplinary study with core mathematics courses and a minor that is independent of the Department of Mathematics. They master a variety of mathematical problem-solving methods. Environmental Studies sheds light on the human dimensions of environmental issues. The interdisciplinary nature of this Bachelor of Arts makes the study of geography critical to understanding key factors affecting the environment in today's world. Distinguished faculty members teach courses about water, land use, food, energy, the built environment and climate related to both urban and rural areas. Students explore techniques for addressing pressing social science issues, but they study physical science techniques as well. Communication is the scientific study of how humans interact with one another. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program examine the processes and effects of communication in four areas: interpersonal, mass, health and social influence. In addition to the Fred Fox School of Music's highly personalized instruction in a supportive learning environment, oboe students get access to the school's professional recording studio and reed workshop, where they can utilize reed-making tools, including top-quality gouging and shaping equipment. The school is home to two orchestras, two wind ensembles, the Pride of Arizona Marching Band and the University of Arizona Jazz Ensemble, among others.
