Build a career on your love of music while inspiring and mentoring the next generation of musicians. The Bachelor of Music in Music Education curriculum prepares students to become music teachers, offering K-12 certification in instrumental, vocal and general music classrooms. Graduates are certified to teach all aspects of music in any grade from kindergarten through high school and go on to secure positions in elementary, secondary and collegiate level institutions across the country and around the world. Because the program develops students' musical skills as performers and educators, the degree also provides an excellent foundation for students to continue their studies in graduate school.

Learning Outcomes

• Students will demonstrate a level of musicianship requisite for artistic expression in one major performance area.

Discover how the immersion into another culture can help you navigate an increasingly connected world. The Bachelor of Arts in French offers two emphases. The French and Francophone focus suits students with wide-ranging interests in French and Francophone studies to complete a French major without taking all courses in French. After completing the core requirements in French language, students take courses in the major that are taught in English. Students benefit from a diverse program, with coursework in language, literature and culture. There are also opportunities to study abroad in Paris, which is one of the oldest and most established study abroad programs at the University of Arizona.

Communication is the scientific study of how humans interact with one another. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program examine the processes and effects of communication in four areas: interpersonal, mass, health and social influence. Because communication is the most fundamental social behavior by which individuals function, its study is relevant to a wide range of academic and career interests. Coursework focuses on learning to write clearly, effectively and persuasively; understanding how to convey complex ideas simply; developing critical thinking skills; and identifying how to thoughtfully consume media. Expand your knowledge of the world's ecosystems and develop strategies to address the complex issues society faces in its stewardship of our planet's resources. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science offers an emphasis in Soil, Air and Water. Students who opt for this track gain a broad scientific understanding of human influence on the natural world, from the molecular level to a global scale. Through work in classrooms, in labs and in the field, students learn how to properly collect soil, water and air samples, identify and implement appropriate analytical techniques, and interpret results. They also gain a deeper understanding of how environmental systems sustain climate, purify water, provide food and fiber, and remediate pollution.

Join the new green economy with an in-depth look at sustainable land development and real estate finance. Teaching students how to conceptualize and manage sustainable and responsible real estate development is a critical objective of the Sustainable Real Estate Development Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program. Coursework focuses on sustainable practices, urban design, real estate finance, site development and construction. Students learn practical business skills such as accounting, marketing and economics. The faculty are leaders in the real estate development field and their interdisciplinary approach to this program features collaborative learning environments that build skills in innovative thought, creativity, problem-solving and teamwork.

Global Studies critically examines global issues, taking an intellectual and experiential approach to teaching students to analyze, communicate, problem-solve and empathize. Emerging global health problems require a new generation of innovative thinkers who can identify trends and assess intervention options. The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies with a Global Health and Development emphasis, adapted to real-world contingencies, prepares students to become these much-needed innovators. Coursework touches on topics from areas of study such as anthropology, geography, public health and regional studies to provide students with an understanding of global health priorities, as well as the history of health-related trends, priorities and intervention measures.

Take an interdisciplinary, application-based approach to physics to equip yourself for a career solving real-world problems. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics is an interdisciplinary program that combines a broad interest in physics with practical career skills, networking opportunities and experience that equips students for real-world problem-solving. In addition to broad study of physics, students take technical elective courses in the areas of science, engineering, math or programming, along with courses in data, statistics or monitoring and communications. Students are required to complete an Engineering Senior Design Project. Alternatively, interdisciplinary design or internship experience can be considered on a case-by-case basis. The B.S. in Applied Physics serves as a launchpad for careers in the private sector or for advanced study in applications such as engineering and medicine.

Deepen your understanding of native communities in North America. In addition to studying languages, traditions and cultures, you'll learn about current issues facing these communities today. The study of American Indians and Alaska Natives establishes an understanding of the relationship between these communities and the U.S., and it sets the groundwork for a career in public policy, government and private business. Students in the Bachelor of Arts in American Indian Studies program explore history, cultural traditions (oral histories, literature, arts) and tribal governments. Students also learn the languages and examine the critical social and political issues in these communities. This holistic approach to studying the diverse native cultures in North America helps students develop a broad-reaching perspective of these important groups. Community service-oriented internships enhance coursework.
