The M.S. in Textile Design at Thomas Jefferson University offers an integrated, collaborative and proven curriculum that blends aesthetic, creative skills with emerging technologies. In studios and classrooms, students turn innovative ideas into original products.

State-of-the-art facilities, including The Center for Excellence of Digital Printing, electronic jacquard and dobby looms, computerized knitting machines, and extensive computer-aided design laboratories enable students to put professional skills into practice. The Design studio courses make up the majority of the coursework in the MS program and design research is stressed from the beginning.

Graduate students select either knit, print or weave as their area of concentration and the courses are taught by active members of the textile design field: artists, design directors, authors and researchers. Visiting artists and guest lecturers expand the educational experience, bringing real-world applications to the classroom experience.
Partnerships with industry, nexus learning sponsored projects, national and international design competitions and exhibitions at international trade shows provide practical experience as students prepare for graduation.

The Jefferson Textile Design program is enhanced by study abroad opportunities and a strong internship program. This TJU program gives graduates a commanding competitive edge in the global textile marketplace with our graduates attaining positions in all areas of the industry from national and international firms to boutique specialty retailers.

Ranked 7th in the U.S. and 4th in the East by DesignIntelligence, the M.S. in Industrial Design is a professional program based on interdisciplinary project work. In this program, you will learn to design effectively at the collaborative and chaotic “front end” of the product-development process. You will work with product users, researchers, businesspeople, engineers and manufacturers to create products and systems that are better at serving their users, societies and the world at large.

We like busy people, because busy people are ambitious, curious people. Many of our courses are taught in the afternoon and evening, to allow flexible scheduling for students who have outside obligations.

Our students are smart, curious and diverse, with undergraduate backgrounds as disparate as economics, philosophy, technology education, mechanical engineering and architecture, as well as some with undergraduate ID degrees. International students are warmly welcomed.

The M.S. in Industrial Design will prepare you for entrepreneurial work in the field, or for a position in a corporate design department or design consulting firm.

The M.S. in User Experience and Interaction Design is an 18-month to two-year on-campus program made up of 31-37 credits, depending on an applicant’s qualifications upon entering the program. This program is designed to prepare working professionals and recent college graduates to expand their careers into the rapidly moving fields of User Experience Design (UX) and Interaction Design (IxD).

What is User Experience & Interaction Design?

The role of User Experience (UX) and Interaction Design (IxD) expands as digital technology allows for more and more innovative applications. We must create aesthetic, engaging and dynamic experiences for users to interact with in order to take full advantage of current and future technologies, and immerse users in media. For these reasons, a M.S. in User Experience and Interaction Design degree prepares graduates with the necessary skills to evolve the standards of communication and interaction.

The Accelerated Dual Degree Programs allow students to customize their education, breaking outmoded disciplinary silos and expanding professional opportunities for our graduates. Layering an additional area of expertise to their primary area of study affords students the credentials and competencies to tackle a broad range of design and industry-related projects and to address pressing environmental and community-based issues.

By submatriculating as a graduate student while completing their baccalaureate degree, a student achieves advanced standing in a graduate program, thereby reducing both time and tuition. The Accelerated Dual Degree Programs enable students to complete two professional degrees in just two to four semesters of additional coursework, depending upon program requirements.

This interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary educational model fosters nimble, flexible problem solving on multiple levels. Working in team and/or studio centered processes, students engage in real world, experiential and collaborative learning. The Accelerated Dual Degree programs prepare students for the complexities of contemporary practice and afford our graduates a competitive edge in today’s market.

To participate in the benefits of the accelerated programs, a student must enroll in coursework by the fall or spring semester immediately following graduation from the baccalaureate program. The graduate program director may grant deferred enrollment in unusual circumstances.

Customize your education to best suit your interests, whatever they may be.  You will learn how to inquire, research, hypothesize, experiment and analyze until the scientific method becomes second-nature. You will never be expected to simply memorize facts from a textbook – you will have to create your own experiments to evaluate scientific phenomena for yourself.

The Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling MS program will provide students integrative education and training to become compassionate and knowledgeable genetic counselors.

Learning Outcomes

• Jefferson College of Life Sciences launched our MS program in Human Genetics & Genetic Counseling, in the Fall of 2017.  
• Employment of genetic counselors is projected to grow 21% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are only 48 graduate genetic counseling programs in the country.  Placement of a new genetic counseling program within the rich clinical and health science environment of the Jefferson enterprise would provide students significant competitive advantage.

The groundbreaking M.S. in International Fashion Design Management program is developed to create the next generation of fashion professionals for a complex global fashion system. Students are invited to create their own path, and customize the experience to focus on different tracks with global opportunities right at their fingertips. By moving beyond the hand-crafted approach to fashion, students will have the opportunity to focus on design as a strategic function, integrated along the cycle of research and design, product development, branding and distribution.

This 30-credit degree offers flexible hybrid and virtual components. During the final semester, students participate in an outbound experience, which is student led and faculty advised to allow students to research and study in any region in the world. Students select a mentor and location, and determine the length of their stay in that region to offer more flexibility. During the final semester, participants create a project that demonstrates topic mastery through synthesis of knowledge and skills inspired from their previous coursework.

With an emphasis on Global Fashion, students study international fashion regions alongside influential industry leaders. Industry engagements and partnerships with top brands create exclusive networking connections, and help students develop a clear understanding of generating and developing a wide variety of ideas that uphold a professional standard. 

A broad range of psychology courses coupled with research, internships, and study-abroad experiences will thoroughly prepare you for graduate programs at top schools.
You have the power to tailor your curriculum to match your unique ambitions. You will choose half of the 16 psychology classes you need to take for your major – a more thorough curriculum than many other programs.  Required courses include very popular topics like Abnormal Psychology and Developmental Psychology. You will also have the opportunity to declare a minor of your choice, to further tailor your education for your particular interests.

You will also learn how to conduct professional-level research, completing an independent senior research project – a great opportunity to join our growing number of published undergraduates.
