The International Year program is designed especially for international students. It is the first year of study at Baylor University, where students study a combination of English language courses and credit-bearing academic courses. History
The History program at Baylor is for students intrigued by the stories we tell about our past. History is the study of the human past as it is constructed and interpreted, based on written, material, and oral evidence. It teaches us empathy for others, respectful debate, and appreciation for experiences unlike our own. History is essential to active national and global citizenship.

The Economics major is offered in three different degree programs, as a Bachelor of Business Administration (designated as a pre-major), a Bachelor of Arts (BA), or a Bachelor of Science (BS). Each degree program is a slightly different variation of the core curriculum based on the degree requirement differences between the College of Arts and Sciences and the Business School. Available courses include:

• Business Cycle and Forecasting
• Labor Economics
• Economics of Poverty and Discrimination
• Law and Economics
• International Economics

Choosing an Economics major in the Business School (BBA) provides the opportunity to take classes targeted toward four different career positions: consultant, public agency analyst, international economist or corporate business economist. Other possibilities for students graduating with an Economics degree include taking a position as a product risk analyst or risk and control advisor. A Bachelor of Arts in Economics is ideal for students wishing to attend graduate or law school while the Bachelor of Science in Economics is ideal for those wishing to work in the medical or scientific field.

The Theory major in the School of Music is for students who wish to concentrate their study on the theory of music. Students will conduct research under mentors, faculty members who are active in academic discourse on the national and international level.  Areas of study include:

Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering major (designated as a pre-major) helps students build a strong engineering foundation by studying thermal/fluids, materials/mechanical systems and design. In addition to foundational mechanical engineering courses, students can further specialize by choosing electives that will improve their ability to apply fundamentals and to design machines and energy systems. The Mathematics major involves a variety of mathematical areas, both traditional and contemporary. Math involves learning the terms, methods and formulae and applying the mathematics to solve theoretical and practical problems. Graduates of the program are highly marketable in a range of fields because the program helps them develop problem-solving skills and trains them to think, and argue, logically.  Available courses include:

• Data and Chance

Mathematics is in the Bachelor of Science degree program as well as in the Bachelor of Arts degree program. The BS in Mathematics curriculum provides the student with a basic background in mathematics.  It allows a student to place some emphasis on an area of mathematics that is related to engineering, the biological, physical, or social sciences. The BA in Mathematics curriculum provides the student with a basic background in mathematics in the context of a liberal arts education.

The Physics major is the study of matter, energy, force and motion and the way in which they relate to one another. German
The German major enables students to become fluent in written and spoken German. German is spoken throughout all Europe. Knowing German can enhance your career opportunities, especially in the areas of international business, foreign service, international transportation, communication and finance. In addition, German is particularly useful if you plan to study theology, music, psychology, philosophy, history or any of the natural sciences. Available courses include:

• Introduction to German Culture: Germany in the Making
• German Reading Development

Applied Music
The music major is for serious musicians who are resolute about pursuing new frontiers and not afraid to challenge musical conventions. The major is in the liberal arts tradition.  It is a good fit for students who want a music degree, but also want to take extra courses outside their major course of study. Health Science Studies
The Health Science Studies major (designated as a pre-major) serves as pre-professional preparation for medical, dental, physical therapy, or other professional graduate programs. The program helps students identify and meet entrance criteria to allied health degree programs.  It also emphasizes health, fitness, and wellness. Available courses include:

• Epidemiology/Vital Statistics
• Anatomical Kinesiology
• Dimensions of Health Science Studies
• Internship in Human Performance

The program has a long, successful history with students moving on to medical, dental and physical therapy schools. Many also move on to secondary general science educations. Students are encouraged to volunteer at clinics, hospitals, etc. to gain experience in their field of interest.

The Biochemistry major is designed to provide a firm foundation in biochemistry and prepare students for careers in health-related disciplines, medical research or biotechnology. A solid background in biochemistry is an important advantage for medical school and many Biochemistry majors declare a Pre-Health track. Biochemistry students are encouraged to take more biology courses than the typical chemistry major. Available courses include:

• General Biochemistry
• Organic Chemistry
• Instrumental Analysis

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry is a good choice for students who wish to attend a professional school in medicine or dentistry. The Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry is a good selection for students desiring to do graduate work in Biochemistry or pursue research-related careers.
