B.S. in Computer Science degree focuses on the concepts and techniques used in the design and the development of advanced software systems, network designs and applications. Students in this program explore the conceptual foundations of computer science – its fundamental algorithms, programming languages, operating systems and software engineering techniques. In addition, they can choose from innovative electives, including artificial intelligence, database systems, graphical user interfaces, web development, e-commerce and computer networks, and system and network administration among others. As with the introductory sequence, these advanced courses stress hands-on learning.

Graduates of the B.S. in Computer Science program have gone on to highly successful careers with Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, Accenture, MTA, DOT, New York City government agencies, Con Edison, NYU Medical Center, and other technology-based corporations.

Physician assistants (PAs) provide medical care to patients under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. In practice, PAs perform a large percentage of the same care patients receive when they visit a doctor, including taking histories, performing physical exams, ordering labs and diagnostic studies, making initial diagnoses and formulating treatment plans, prescribing medication, performing procedures, and assisting in surgery. PAs may specialize in any area of medicine or surgery and enjoy lateral mobility, meaning that they may move from specialty to specialty without additional formal training.

LIU Brooklyn's Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program was the first in the region to be approved by the New York State Education Department. Successful completion of the program enables the candidate to register as a physician assistant and to sit for the National Certifying Examination administered by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

The Master of Science program in Pharmacology and Toxicology prepares students with the knowledge and abilities required for competitive technical positions in pharmacological research and testing, for participating in clinical trials, and for performing toxicological reviews and assessments in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries as well as in academic and governmental research laboratories.

Additionally, graduates are well positioned to continue their studies in Ph.D. programs in pharmacology and other biomedical sciences, while other graduates may find the program ideal for improving their credentials toward gaining admission to medical school or other health professional programs.

Career opportunities and employment may include academic departments involved in research, development, and teaching. Rewarding careers are also possible in pharmaceutical companies, government laboratories and agencies including the Centers for Disease Control, The Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Defense and NASA. Opportunities also exist in areas involving the development of public policy, investment advising, patent law, and scientific writing and editing.

There is excellent potential for rapid advancement in this field due to the importance of the discipline to the drug industry, regulatory agencies, and to the general public.

Graduates of the program have either joined academic departments by securing doctoral fellowships in prestigious laboratories, or obtained jobs in industry. Others have used their degree to facilitate entry into medical and pharmacy schools.

The program is registered by the New York State Department of Education. Graduates of the program receive a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology that satisfies the academic and professional requirements specified by ASHA for the CCC-SLP, and are eligible to apply for licensure in SLP by the New York State Department of Education's Office of the Professions. Students who wish to satisfy the New York State Education Office of Teaching requirements for Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) may also prepare for this certification as part of their graduate program. Students demonstrating proficiency (i.e., speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in a language other than English may further prepare for a certificate in Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities with a Bilingual Extension. The Master of Science program in Pharmaceutics with Specialization in Industrial Pharmacy prepares students for careers in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and for entry into Ph.D. programs in pharmaceutical sciences and other related fields.

The only program of its kind in New York City, LIU Pharmacy’s M.S. in Pharmaceutics with Specialization in Cosmetic Science prepares students for careers in the consumer products industry, researching, developing, and testing new cosmetics, perfumes, toiletries, household products, and more.

Graduates of the program are highly sought after by the global cosmetics industry to support research, development and manufacturing operations in the areas of chemistry, cosmetic/dermatological formulations technology, product evaluations and safety.

With pressure to contain the cost and time it takes to create new products and bring them to market, professionals with expertise in regulatory affairs are highly sought after by pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers, as well as by hospitals, health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and a range of other health care oriented organizations as well. The expertise of a DRA professional may be used in areas such as clinical trials, manufacturing, compliance, patenting, sales and marketing, IT, finance and scientific writing.

Our MSW program provides a step-wise progression to support student understanding of generalist and specialized social work practice. The generalist practice curriculum includes content in the foundation areas of social work: policy, practice, human behavior, research, diversity, professional values, and promotion of social justice, and applied through a field education experience.

The advanced year curriculum deepens the student’s understanding and demonstrated mastery of psychosocial assessment, administrative theory and practice, and diversity sensitive practice. Students select a specific area of concentration for specialized education in a particular area of practice. Field experience in the second year provides an opportunity for the student to apply in practice specialized knowledge, values and skills gained through their selected concentration.
