The University of Delaware School of Nursing offers several opportunities for students to become a registered nurse (RN). There are three types of undergraduate programs:

  • Traditional Undergraduate Program: The traditional undergraduate program is designed for beginning students of nursing, including high school graduates and change-of-major students. This is a four-year on-campus program and students are directly admitted to the Nursing program, beginning their Nursing curriculum as freshman.
  • Accelerated Degree Program: The accelerated degree program is a 17 month on-campus program designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in another field and wish to pursue a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
  • RN to BSN: The RN to BSN program is an on-line program designed for registered nurses who want to attain a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

This sequential curricular development will allow students to build a solid foundation for nursing practice. To support the student experience, a state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory and resource center allow students to pursue independent and collaborative coursework.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Bachelor of Arts in Art

The B.A. in Art—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—provides the same foundation in art making through its Core studio courses that B.F.A. students receive along with additional upper level studio courses to further hone the student’s artistic skills. It encourages an interdisciplinary approach with many students earning a minor or second major from departments across the college and university. The B.A. provides an opportunity for students to develop highly personal portfolios that can incorporate art and design with work from other disciplines with very marketable results. The B.A. also reflects developments in Fine Art involving more environmentally and socially engaged art practices, technology or performance-based work, as well as artworks emphasizing academic research.

The School of Music offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music provides students an opportunity to synthesize intensive study of music with a liberal arts education applicable to a variety of career interests. The program includes training in music theory, music history/literature, performance ensembles and applied music. Rigorous coursework in music is balanced by significant opportunities for training, research and development in other academic areas. This program is particularly well suited to students with broad ranging artistic and academic interests, and who wish to utilize their music education to advance their careers in unique directions.

The entrepreneurship (ENTR) major will provide you with the knowledge, skills, connections and resources you need to launch a startup, foster innovation in an established company or develop sustainable solutions to important societal problems.

Technology innovation changes the world by creating new knowledge, disrupting established industries and reshaping career paths. The entrepreneurship major prepares you to adapt and thrive amidst this rapid change.

Through first-hand experience, you will learn to recognize opportunity, generate ideas, validate business models, influence others, bring innovative technologies to market and launch and grow new ventures.You’ll join other students and entrepreneurs through the programs of Horn Entrepreneurship.

Focused Study

  • Enrollment in the ENTR major is limited to 30 students per year. This enables us to deliver a high-impact, small-school experience as well as the many opportunities associated with attending a major research university.
  • You’ll move through the program with the other students in your class as a cohort, completing required entrepreneurship courses and being immersed in the broader entrepreneurial community together. Seasoned entrepreneurs and business leaders actively engage with you in all program courses and co-curricular activities.

Bachelor of Fine Arts

The Fine Arts Program at UD—one of three undergraduate art and design degrees offered at UD—combines the best of creative research and hands-on experimentation.  Students have the opportunity to experience printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, video, photography, animation and drawing. After completing core courses, students have the freedom to choose their own pathway of study that enables them to develop into an active creative force; essentially our students are empowered to impact culture in a meaningful way and positively change the world.

Central to this student-centered approach is our one-on-one advising—all fine art majors and minors work in direct contact with our professionally active faculty through studio and lecture courses. Additionally, students engage with diverse communities through dynamic visiting artist talks, highly regarded study abroad courses, productive internships and frequent field trips to major art centers. Individual or shared studios are available for advanced students.

Engage with politics, culture and language

Combine your love of French and your interest in government and political systems in this exciting major offered jointly by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. French language courses will help you acquire the skills necessary to communicate effectively in Francophone settings. Courses in politics, business, literature and civilization will provide you with a thorough understanding of French and Francophone political and cultural environments.

As an operations management (OM) major, you’ll learn about the processes that companies use to transform resources into goods and services.

As an OM professional, you’ll help companies make important decisions about product creation, development, production and distribution while focusing on efficiency and balancing supply and demand. This requires a mastery of technology, data analysis and critical decision-making.

If you enjoy solving problems using the latest technology, utilizing math to improve real-world situations, analyzing data and explaining it to others or learning valuable new decision-making skills, then the OM major is for you.

The Bachelor of Music in Composition emphasizes instruction in musical composition, improvisation and multimedia creative activities. Many students in this major continue on to graduate studies in composition at well-known institutions with the goal of working in higher education or to compose vocationally.

The Composition Studio is a vibrant and highly active group within the University of Delaware’s School of Music. Composition students remain active as performers and are able to participate in all of the school’s ensembles and productions. Diversity in compositional style and philosophy is encouraged, as is interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation. Close association with the theory and musicology areas, in addition to the performance area, provides for a well-rounded academic education where music composition students can enhance and support their creative work with specialized research and performance.

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition And Medical Sciences

The Nutrition and Medical Sciences major provides students with a strong science foundation focused in biology, physiology, and chemistry, and is particularly designed for those expecting to pursue an advanced degree in graduate school, medical school, dental school, or other health-related professions (e.g. physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy).
