Overview

The B.S. degree in business analytics prepares students for careers that use data to support and inform business decision-making and management. Students learn skills in a natural progression including assembling and managing data, displaying data, uncovering patterns in data, developing predictive models, and using these models to make better decisions across all business domains. Business analytics skills are in demand across a wide range of industries including healthcare, sports, marketing, finance, consulting, supply-chain operations, and information technology. Students are encouraged to develop expertise in a functional business discipline such as supply-chain management, health care management, marketing or finance using elective coursework.

The martketing analytics concentration teaches students to combine their quantitative analytical skills with marketing knowledge in order to make informed and accurate decisions in a data driven climate.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Within each program option described above, students may concentrate in industrial-human resources, organizational development, or conflict management. A concentration requires 12 credits of electives, which are counted as part of the 21 credits required in the elective option (Thesis, Internship/Practicum, or Approved Electives) selected by the student. If a concentration is selected, the student must notify the program coordinator as well as the Registrar. A concentration is not required if the student’s educational or career goals can best be met without this specialization.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will master theory and techniques related to core areas of industrial-organizational psychology including talent identification and development, work motivation, training, human capital practices, organization and group behavior.
  • Students will learn how to employ the knowledge gained through their classes to the workplace through supervised experiential learning opportunities such as internships, practicum, case studies, and applied research projects.
  • Students will conduct applied organizational research and interpret research used to make business decisions.

A total of 45 credits is required of candidates for the master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates for this degree must complete 24 credits of basic program requirements. Another 21 credits (including concentrations, program options, and electives) are chosen after consultation with the program coordinator in light of the student’s academic and professional goals. Students may not complete more than nine credits of electives until they have satisfied the basic requirements. Up to nine credits of electives may be taken in other departments, such as industrial engineering, economics, management, marketing, and public administration.

Master of Science in Sport Management

Our master’s degree in sport management is the most established such program in Connecticut and the oldest program in the United States continually housed in a business school.

We have always focused on business and continue to lead the nation in cutting-edge business applications in sports. Boiled down to its essence, our degree is focused on cultivating and training industry leaders to work in the sports industry, or any other industry through hands-on experiential education.

Students may choose between a general M.S. Sport Management degree and two concentrations:

  • The M.S. Sport Management with a concentration in Business Analytics (36 credits and STEM designated) provides an in-depth framework for use of analytics and how data is driving critical decisions in the industry. The goal of this degree program is to enhance students’ quantitative and statistical skills (including predictive modeling and data management), build an understanding of the relationship between data and decisions, and develop the skills to communicate those relationships.
  • The M.S. Sport Management with a concentration in Collegiate Athletic Administration (30 credits) is a focused degree designed to provide an understanding of the management of college athletic departments/programs.
  • The general M.S. Sport Management degree (30 credits) allows the student to build a set of Sport Management and general business electives around the Sport Management core that reflect their particular interests and professional objectives

The University’s full-time MBA program, which is one of only two in Connecticut – and less than 30 across the U.S. – that offer concentrations that are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) certified by the federal government, enables you to both master new skills through rigorous coursework and build a portfolio of experience through internships and real-world learning opportunities that will prepare you to excel.

Our program is a great choice for those who’ve recently completed an undergraduate degree or who are looking to continue their education straight out of college. The program’s schedule allows for students to complete the program in as few as 12 months for those who meet the criteria to waive the three business foundation courses, and carry a 12-credit hour load. We live in an age when the ability to sequence the genome of every new child entering the world is just beyond the horizon. This wealth of information will come with great responsibility and will dramatically reshape and broaden our understanding of human health and disease. With these advances have come massive investment and increased workforce demands within both public and private biomedical sectors.

Broad in its application yet focused on clear training goals, the master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology provides students with the theory and skills to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of biomedical research. Students gain hands-on training in the laboratory skills most desired by today’s bioscience employers, and they have the option to either complete a research thesis project under the guidance of a departmental faculty member or to choose a non-thesis option that culminates in a capstone.

Students also have the opportunity to join active faculty-led research groups, tackling important questions in cancer biology, virology and vaccine design, microbial pathogenesis, DNA damage and repair, and embryonic development. Graduates from our program are well trained and have gone on to successful careers in research and development at biotech start-ups and in technical positions at large pharmaceutical companies. The introductory courses in the graphic design program concentrate on basic design vocabulary, composition, color perception, and drawing. Students apply long-established principles to the evolving aesthetics of computer-generated art and electronic media. The objective of the Master of Science in Accounting program is to provide an in-depth framework for artificial intelligence (AI)/analytics, corporate, forensic, and taxation accounting inquiry, devised in structure and content from the entire scope and process of accounting-information-based economic decision-making. The existence of such a framework is intended to provide graduate accountants and professional practitioners with an opportunity to share in the development and assessment of issues of accounting interest within a decision-making context. Additionally, the Master of Science in Accounting program is designed to provide non-accountants and practitioners with the accounting credits requisite for certification.

Program Outcomes:

  • Students will demonstrate familiarity with the fundamental concepts and knowledge in their concentration areas of Corporate, Forensic, Tax, or AI/Analytics.

Economics also prepares students for careers in fields as diverse as government service, law, and non-governmental institutions. Importantly, the economics degree offers outstanding preparation for graduate and professional programs.

The University of New Haven’s undergraduate program in economics provides students with the analytical and technical skills that employers value. And we place considerable emphasis on providing our students with the wide array of practical skills and acquired intelligence necessary to respond to a changing natural and human environment. Our graduates bring a high degree of critical thinking, solid writing, and presentations kills to their employment field of choice. They are well-adapted, attentive, and prepared to respond to the inevitability of surprise, spontaneity, and innovation.

In addition to the General Education requirements, the B.A. Economics requires 33 credits. The 33-credit program is comprised of 24 credits of courses required for all B.A. Economics majors and 9 credits from one of two concentrations. The Behavioral Economics concentration entails taking a series of more specialized economics courses leading towards the Behavioral Economics focus. Alternatively, a student can choose to retain a more general and broader overview of Economics through the General Economics concentration.

The academic objectives of the program are to provide students with the following:

  • A systemic and holistic approach to problem solving founded on broad-based interdisciplinary knowledge crafted around sound economic principles and skillful use of traditional economics quantitative and technical skills.
