The B.S. in Health Sciences combines basic scientific knowledge, healthcare industry specific knowledge, and practical skills for students to be competitive in the 21st century healthcare workforce. The program addresses both the administrative and technical aspects of healthcare as well as the professional, social, ethical, and political elements.  Courses provide broad technical skills as well as the organizational competencies needed for entry level positions in a wide range of healthcare organizations and companies, as well as preparation for graduate study in clinical professions.  In particular, this program aims to provide a broad, interdisciplinary training for students interested in clinical and non-clinical health fields including but not limited to medicine, population health, clinical research administration, and healthcare administration.  The B.S. in Health Sciences also offers two optional concentrations: Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy.  Each of these concentrations focuses on a specific healthcare profession and is designed to prepare students for graduate school in an area of specialization.

Several courses have integrated the CFA® curriculum as provided by CFA Institute and are based on the Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) from the CFA® Program. Topics in these courses assist students in preparation for the CFA® exam.*

Students earning a B.S. degree in marketing are required to complete 121 credits, including the university core curriculum (40 credits) and the business program core (30 credits).    Further clarification and additional requirements are outlined below:

One of only a small number of such programs in the United States, our master’s program in fire and explosion investigation offers 39 credits* of interdisciplinary coursework in fire/arson investigation, emergency management, public safety, and more. Students in the program study alongside leading professionals in the fire service including current and former fire and police chiefs, homeland security executives, private investigators, and insurance agents. Successful alumni have moved on to leadership positions in local fire departments, state and federal emergency agencies, and private firms.

Students take required courses in topics such as the chemistry of fires, dynamics of structural fires, and arson analysis. Candidates will also chose from a series of electives that explores issues, including fire and building codes, fire scene reconstruction, terrorism, and industrial fire protection.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media will build specialized knowledge and skills related to public relations across a variety of platforms and contexts in addition to acquiring a solid grounding in digital media production.  Through coursework emphasizing writing, campaigns, and persuasion, as well as laboratory and field experiences in digital media design and production along with internship opportunities, students will learn to become competent and well-rounded public relations professionals.

Students earning a B.A. degree in communication with a concentration in public relations and digital media are required to complete a total of 121 credits as follows.

Program Outcomes

• Students completing the program will be able to demonstrate specific interpersonal and applied communication skills in human communication theory; convergent media production aesthetics, theory and technical areas; media writing and journalism.
• Students will have the ability to be effective team members in newsroom, news websites and public relations firms and offices.

In biology, there are questions to be asked and problems to be solved. Through the biology program at the University of New Haven, you will learn to do both successfully, applying the theoretical knowledge you gain in the classroom in hands-on laboratory activities and engaging in field work right from the start.

Students earning a B.S. degree with a major in biology must complete a minimum of 125 credits. Courses include the course requirements for the particular biology concentration as indicated below and completion of 40 credits of the University Core Curriculum with restrictions as listed below.

The B.S. degree in business analytics prepares students for careers that use data to support and inform business decision-making and management. Students learn skills in a natural progression including assembling and managing data, displaying data, uncovering patterns in data, developing predictive models, and using these models to make better decisions across all business domains. Business analytics skills are in demand across a wide range of industries including healthcare, sports, marketing, finance, consulting, supply-chain operations, and information technology. Students are encouraged to develop expertise in a functional business discipline such as supply-chain management, health care management, marketing or finance using elective coursework.

The sport management concentration teaches students to utilize their quantitative analytical skills to make informed and accurate decisions in the sport management sphere.

Human uses of the marine environment, including fishing, aquaculture, energy development, and tourism, have increased significantly in the past two decades. Coastal areas are highly productive and resource-rich ecosystems and also account for some of the most sought-after real estate in the world. Multiple uses, potentially conflicting interests, and economic and social dependency create ever more complex issues of sustainability, environmental law and policy, and resource management.

With our M.A. in Marine Policy and Management, you will gain the higher-level skills, practical experience, and interdisciplinary knowledge that enable you to thrive in this environment and in the related fields that feed into it.

The University of New Haven's cybersecurity and networks program is one of the best in the country. Its research, program offerings, multidisciplinary approach, and performance in cyber competitions, among other factors, led to the University being designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO) by the National Security Agency. The cybersecurity industry is expected to reach $170 billion by 2020. By 2021, there are expected to be 3.5 million unfilled positions in cybersecurity worldwide. It is impossible to overstate the importance of cybersecurity and network technology to businesses, industries, and government organizations. If their systems and programs don’t run smoothly, business and administration can be slow or even grind to a halt and the financial cost can be devastating. Our program will give you a solid understanding of both practical and conceptual cybersecurity and network technologies, including computer hardware, software, and design issues.

Students take hands-on courses related to networking, network defense, cybersecurity, cyber forensics, mobile device forensics and exploitation, and reverse engineering. Our students are also involved in conducting leading-edge research in cybersecurity, cyber forensics and networking, even as undergraduates.

Our students are in high demand upon graduation, and have been offered opportunities by organizations such as MITRE, Accenture, IBM, Intel, and NTT security.
