The Master of Science in Engineering program is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students. The program can be a stepping-stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity. The student, with the help and approval of a major advisor, can choose from a wide range of courses from throughout the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and where appropriate, from other schools and colleges.

Our performance programs are led by renowned performing artist faculty. Piano majors take private lessons and master classes, and perform regularly in concerts and recitals.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance prepares students to teach participatory movement traditions in community settings, and to lead community groups in creating and performing their own dances and movement rituals. Community-based service-learning experiences provide many opportunities to realize these goals. Many Dance BA students pursue a double major at UWM; the service-learning component provides an opportunity to integrate the content of the two areas of study.

The BA in Animation will prepare graduates to secure positions as animators and multimedia artists in the moving image production industry.

Graduates of this program will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of artistic principles, conventions, methods, and practices through the creation and production of animated works of art;
2. Utilize the core concepts, capabilities, and tools of animation technology;
3. Apply critical and creative thinking skills in a variety of contexts;
4. Identify ways in which animation can be utilized in both creative and practical contexts;
5. Assure high quality production values in the work that they create; and
6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, produce projects individually and collaboratively, engage fully in the entire production process, from concept to distribution.

Marketing is a key factor contributing to the success of any business organization. It is the dynamic and creative process of the development, pricing, promotion, and distribution of products and services to satisfy customer and organizational objectives. Effective marketing requires an integration of eclectic knowledge and the skills pertinent to understanding consumer behavior, planning and analyzing marketing research data, thinking strategically, and managing people.

Students learn how marketing supports an organization's objectives; how to examine consumer motivation and behavior; how to price, promote, and distribute products and services; and how to plan and analyze market research data to make good decisions.

Graduates of the marketing major find an exciting and broad spectrum of career opportunities in brand/product management, industrial selling, retailing, sales management, advertising, marketing research, customer-service management, and other areas.

The MA in Language, Literature, and Translation (MALLT) is an interdisciplinary MA degree program focused on global languages, literatures and translation. With over 50 faculty from five different departments, MALLT offers a flexible program of study tailored to your professional goals. Three departments—French, Italian and Comparative Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature and Translation & Interpreting Studies cooperate in offering this interdepartmental, interdisciplinary master’s program designed for the student who wishes to focus on language, literature, and translation on a cross-cultural basis.

This undergraduate degree offers students a concentrated studio art experience to complement a broad exposure to the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. Bachelor of Arts (Art) students have four course tracks to choose from: Studio Arts, Design Studies, Community Arts, and Digital Fabrication and Design.

The Department of English offers master’s and doctoral degrees in several areas of specialization: Literature and Cultural Theory; Rhetoric and Composition; Creative Writing; Professional and Technical Writing; and Media, Cinema, and Digital Studies. Students apply for admission to a specific area or concentration, but are encouraged to take classes in others.

This interdisciplinary program is designed to give graduates an understanding of the African and African diasporic experiences in both local and global contexts and incorporate culturally distinct perspectives in analysis of social and cultural phenomena. Upon completion of the program graduates will be able to analyze and compare knowledge systems and practices within African and African diasporic populations. MA graduates will gain skills in critiquing policies with respect to impacts upon communities of African descent both currently and in historical contexts. The MA will teach students to reflect upon and apply awareness of African and African diasporic experiences and theory to individual professional practices, communications, and interactions. Furthermore, MA graduates will gain quantitative and qualitative methodological skills for identifying and examining challenges affecting people of African descent as well as strengths and resources within African and African diasporic communities. Finally, students will utilize theoretical frameworks from Black Studies to design research-based strategies, programs, and recommendations to address challenges affecting people of African descent.

The Department of Art History offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts degree. The graduate program prepares students for either a career in the arts or for PhD-level work at other universities. Course offerings cover the full range of western art, including film studies and electronic arts. Non-western courses in Pre-Columbian, Asian, Islamic, and African art are also offered.
