Geography is the study of the location and interrelationships of human and physical phenomena on the earth’s surface. Because of its emphasis on spatial organization and distribution of these phenomena, geography has a broad cross-disciplinary base. Such topics of study as cartography, climatology, landform analysis, remote sensing, settlement theory, spatial interaction, geographic information systems, and urban morphology indicate the breadth of contemporary geography. The undergraduate major in geography includes the study of cultural, economic, physical, and regional geography, as well as quantitative methods and field work. Backgrounds in the natural and social sciences, humanities, statistical methods, and computer programming are useful to, but not required for, the geography major.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in geography focuses on examining the processes of the formation and characteristics of the cultural landscape. Students may select an area of study from physical geography, human geography, resource analysis, land management, or economic geography with careful selection of elective courses.

Geography may be selected as an academic major, as a secondary teaching concentration in a social science or earth science program, or as part of an elementary teaching major. Students majoring in geography may qualify for licensure at the secondary level by meeting the minimum requirements in professional education courses for licensure by the state of Ohio. Because of sequential requirements and prerequisites, students are strongly urged to consult with a geography advisor before registering. Students in any major may also minor in Geography.

Geography majors should participate in the department’s internship program if they do not have professional experience in the field. The internship is designed to complement geography students’ class work and gives them experience in the actual work environment. Students interested in the internship should contact the department internship coordinator or their advisor.

Studying one of the modern languages at Wright State will help you improve your ability to read, write, and speak in another language, study how that language is used in a social context, and become a more enlightened citizen. You will also learn about the history, politics, culture, media, and literature of your chosen country and study their economic and educational systems.

New technologies have increased global opportunities, and studying a modern language prepares you to work with people all over the world. Government and non-governmental agencies have discovered a critical need for college graduates with foreign language skills.

A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or nonprofit sector. Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and the market and our program boasts a placement rate or nearly 100 percent in occupations requiring a master’s degree. You will study research methods and how social factors influence and shape our economy and apply those analytical skills to working in business, government, and nonprofit sectors.

This program develops professional economists who can solve contemporary problems with a unique skill set created by a curriculum that bridges the gap between research and the application of research. Our curriculum stresses applied research using traditional and nontraditional methods and takes advantage of our faculty’s diverse teaching and research activities. You are encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving while building the skills to work in business, government, and nonprofit sectors or continue your education.

Program Outcomes
If you complete this program, you will graduate with a Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. In this program, you will be encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving.

The Bachelor of Science curriculum in Chemistry approaches students' educational endeavors with a broad, integrated, and in-depth view. Departmental requirements, combined with university core requirements and electives, offer a balanced course load for students. This provides undergraduates with the opportunity to explore where their interests in the science field will lead them. This option combines all the required courses for admission to a professional school, which includes two years of chemistry, one year of physics, one year of mathematics, while utilizing recommended courses as science electives to fulfill the bachelor's requirements. This option allows students the freedom to explore their interests in many of the careers listed

The Council on Social Work Education has accredited this program since 1974, assuring you that the curriculum and faculty meet established national standards. Qualified graduates of the bachelor's program are eligible for examinations to achieve advanced standing in master's degree programs. Those who qualify for dual-credit consideration could complete their master's degree in as little as one academic year.

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Students who want to become certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum. Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, first-aid, and emergency care, assessment of injury/illness, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities, and nutrition. Classroom learning is enhanced through clinical education experiences." — NATA web site, 2015

The athletic training program prepares you to sit for the national Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer examination which meets the certification in Ohio as regulated by the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board.  Licensure and certification requirements vary from state to state, and we have not determined if this program meets educational requirements outside of Ohio.  If you are planning to pursue professional licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, please contact the appropriate licensing entity in that state to seek information and guidance regarding that state’s licensure or certification requirements.

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science in Aerospace Systems Engineering (MSE). The graduate program is non-traditional by requiring an interdisciplinary minor in an aerospace relevant area.

The Master of Science in Aerospace Systems Engineering (M.S.A.S.E.) program is designed to provide graduate study opportunities focused on theoretical study and practical experience in aerospace systems engineering that will effectively prepare them for the job markets or further doctoral study. The M.S.A.S.E. program differs from traditional Aerospace Engineering programs in that it requires breadth via requirement of cross disciplinary study modeled after our highly ranked PhD program and thus forms both the strongly needed systems understanding required in modern aerospace programs as well as a natural stepping stone for a PhD  program.

Our Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science degree gives you the flexibility to incorporate a wide range of interests. You will still focus on software and software systems and also learn how to apply that knowledge.

Advanced Studies is a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree program that is available for currently licensed teachers who want in-depth study in a particular area of interest. This program offers a flexible option for highly motivated individuals who are seeking advanced study with specific professional objectives, such as expanding knowledge or skills in a specified area, and/or who are seeking to earn an endorsement, along with the Master’s degree.

Program Outcomes

Students completing the program will be able to:

• Communicate a sophisticated knowledge of history and disseminate it to the general public through completion of thesis projects, Public History capstone projects, Public History conferences, and other presentations and exhibits.
• Encourage others to explore and understand the historical context of their lives through public contact in societies, historical organizations, community and social groups, local and regional schools, History Day, and in museums and archives.
• Develop their own appreciation and knowledge of history through contact and networking with other historians (through the department, alumni, and professional organizations), and through a continued quest for knowledge by readings and primary research. 
• Be prepared to matriculate into Ph.D. programs or to advance their careers in secondary education. Graduates in the Public History plan will be qualified to obtain employment in historical organizations, corporations, government, non-profits, archives, libraries, or museums.

Our Master of Accountancy program helps you meet the requirements to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Graduates of our Master of Accountancy program consistently perform above the national average for passing the CPA exam and our graduates usually post pass rates that are among the top rates of any program in the state of Ohio.  

Program Outcomes
If you complete the program, you will graduate with a Master of Accountancy degree. You will have a broad educational experience for completing professional accounting exams such as the Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Management Accountant exams, as well as meet the requirements to take the CPA exam. This program also provides an excellent background for students interested in pursuing a law degree in the future.
