Petroleum Engineers work with oil or gas companies to design, test and implement efficient methods to extract petroleum products from the earth and sea floor. They use their knowledge and skills to make estimations about what is going on thousands of metres below the ground. Petroleum Engineers rely on physical, mathematical and engineering principles to identify and solve problems in exploration, exploitation, drilling and production.

They work closely with other professionals, such as geologists, to locate the dig site, design and build the machines that extract as much oil and gas as possible. They also oversee the removal and processing of the petroleum itself. Petroleum engineers address the economic and management problems associated with the recovery of hydrocarbons and alternative sources of energy from below the Earth’s surface. Petroleum engineers apply practical science to the challenges and problems associated with oil and gas exploration, drilling and petroleum production. In this career you’ll focus on the environment, and how we can meet global energy needs in a long-term, sustainable manner.

In this career you’ll apply knowledge of chemistry, physics, geology and economics to the discovery, development and production of energy and material resources below the Earth’s surface. This knowledge can also be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and geothermal resources engineering.

Cinema Studies (Major)

Molecular Biology

Molecular Biology is a marriage of biochemistry, microbiology and cell biology. It will have an increasingly important role to play in many aspects of modern medicine, genetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology and genomics.

This innovative degree extends the Civil Engineering Bachelor degree by including courses in Architecture from the School of Built Environment. Civil engineers create and manage the infrastructure of our built environment, including bridges, roads and highways, tunnels, dams, ports and harbours, railways, water supply and sewerage schemes, irrigation systems and many other structures.

The degree will lead to a professionally accredited Engineering qualification with a foundation in architectural principles and an understanding of both the architect's role in structural design and the connection between architects and engineers. Environmental engineers focus on the impact on the natural world by engineering activities. They combine their broad knowledge of engineering and environmental processes in identifying environmental problems and then developing effective solutions. They also coordinate the activities of various specialist groups such as biologists, ecologists and geologists within major projects.

Environmental Engineering embraces parts of Civil Engineering, with an emphasis on management, system design, water, geotechnical and transport engineering. It also covers aspects of Chemical Engineering, applied and biological sciences, and environmental studies. To get you work ready, you'll apply these skills through 60 days of approved industry training.
