Overview

The program provides training in the skills required for on-site general carpentry and construction work, including the safe operation and maintenance of hand, portable, and stationary power tools. Business - Finance (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. and the Registered Retirement Consultant® RRC® designation awarded by CIFP.

Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

Co-operative Education
In order to be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be academically complete at the commencement of their co-op work term.

The Game - Design program at Fanshawe College is an intensive three-year advanced diploma focusing on the tools and techniques necessary to gain employment in the video game industry. The goal of the program is to provide students with the professional and artistic skills necessary to create compelling and innovative games.

Students will develop 2D and 3D skills by studying a curriculum focused initially on the core principles of video game creation. Foundation courses including art & design theory, modelling, animation, texturing, anatomy and drawing will provide the basis for understanding the various components that make up a video game. An integral part of the Game - Design program at Fanshawe College is its relationship to the local community. London, Ontario has a vibrant and growing video game industry. Professionals from this community include game designers, animators, producers and art directors who will play an important role by providing mentorship to students through critique and guest lectures.

Diploma in Office Administration - Health Services

This two-year professional program is designed to provide students with extensive practical understanding and knowledge to perform administrative support in a wide variety of medical environments.  The focus will be on medical terminology and transcription, medical billing, patient management, medical office procedures, medical ethics and research.  The emphasis will be on interpersonal, communication, organizational, technical, and problem-solving skills applied to enhance the effective operation of the medical environment.

Expert training in computerized medical records systems, billing systems and other office equipment technology applications will be combined with analytical and multitasking strategies to facilitate scheduling, decision making, co-ordination and task completion.  Utilizing these skills, students will be capable of overseeing a variety of medical office environments.  Researching, developing, and presenting accurate medical documentation, correspondence and reports will be emphasized.

A four-week medical office environment workplace component will provide the student with practical, hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply the theories and concepts learned in the Office Administration - Health Services program classroom.  The importance of professional ethics, privacy and confidentiality will be highlighted throughout the program.

This three-year co-operative program provides training in both the municipal and structural areas. The design of steel frame and reinforced concrete buildings is studied in the structural courses. Training is provided in materials testing and computer-aided drafting. Municipal topics include the design and construction of water distribution systems, storm, and sanitary sewerage networks, storm water management and highways. Theories for the treatment of water, sewage, and solid wastes are analyzed. Survey courses provide training in the use of high-tech survey equipment and techniques of plane surveying, as related to the Civil Engineering profession. Business is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed for students with an interest in all aspects of business. Students gain an understanding of all various business areas including accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, supply chain management, small business, and project management.
