The Motive Power Technician (Diesel) Diploma program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program.  The program is designed to develop graduates with essential advanced technical, organizational, interpersonal, administrative and managerial skills required for the heavy duty service industry as well as providing progressive and comprehensive learning experiences on internal combustion compression ignition engines, power trains and related modern heavy duty systems. Students will learn to communicate effectively, diagnose and solve problems logically and to undertake responsible work tasks with a minimum of supervision.

Graduates may also be in a favourable status if they wish to apply for our alternative Motive Power Technician (Automotive) Diploma program. Credit for those courses that bridge our diploma programs will be granted; therefore, significantly reducing the requirements for this second Ontario College Diploma.

• Analyse, diagnose, and solve various motive power system problems by using problem-solving and critical thinking skills and strategies and by applyingfundamental knowledge of motor vehicle operation, components, and their interrelationships.
• Diagnose and repair climate control systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Diagnose and repair engine systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, personal safety, and emission components and systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Diagnose and repair drive train components and systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Diagnose and repair suspension, steering, and brake components and systems in compliance with manufacturers' recommendations.
• Disassemble and assemble components to required specifications by applying workshop skills and knowledge of basic shop practices.
• Select and use a variety of troubleshooting techniques and test equipment to assess electronic circuits, vehicle systems, and subsystems.
• Apply knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics to the testing and analysis of motive power systems and subsystems.

Insurance and Risk Management is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed for university and college graduates looking for a career in the property and casualty insurance industry. This program will allow students to earn credits towards the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation from the Insurance Institute of Canada.

• Analyze the role played by the property and casualty insurance industry in the Canadian and global economy.
• Use current and relevant insurance industry-specific terminology in all stakeholder communications.
• Identify, select and apply risk management concepts to the four major categories of risk: hazard, operational, financial and strategic.
• Assess the techniques risk management professionals use to finance the negative consequences of risk events in multifaceted scenarios.
• Recommend assessment and treatment techniques for the major categories of risk faced by an organization, with an emphasis on hazard risk.
• Evaluate the clauses, terms and conditions of various insurance policy wordings in order to determine the appropriate coverage for complex risks.
• Articulate an effective process to successfully address the adjustment, negotiation and settlement of an insurance claim.
• Justify the acceptance or rejection of an application for insurance.

The Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program designed to prepare creative and disciplined students for a career in the Post Production industry. The program focuses on professional techniques, terminology and software used for video and audio editing, motion graphics, 3D animation, compositing and Visual FX. Students will improve their Post Production knowledge and skills through individual and group assignments, practical instruction, independent learning, tutorials and research. The program includes an opportunity for client services, internship within the post industry across Canada, as well as self-directed portfolio projects.

• Create complex visual effects utilizing professional compositing techniques such as Chromakey, Motion Tracking, Rotoscoping & Matting.
• Apply advanced Post Production concepts while working collaboratively in the industry.
• Analyze and critique professional projects using proper terminology.
• Operate Post Production industry standard computer software and hardware.
• Combine and manipulate audio, video, graphics and animation elements.
• Manage and organize large amounts of media, files and documents on digital devices.
• Model, render and integrate 3D elements into video projects using professional techniques.
• Trouble shoot and problem solve video and computer issues during the creation Post Production projects.
• Edit and mix audio elements for use in video productions.

This is a highly specialized, advanced program in the theory and practice of all phases of producing creative sound for film, television, gaming, web animations, live audio, video and all new media forms.  Concept building is emphasized through various means: audio production and surround sound design and mixing, field recording, ADR, Foley, live sound and game sound techniques. Students are engaged in individual and collaborative projects involving practical and process oriented instruction, working with other graduate certificate programs and departments within the College, as well as independent lab time.

Industry linkages and competitive portfolios are built based on high level team building skills and intensive problem solving. This specialization prepares students well for career opportunities within the audio production and post-production industry.

• Plan audio sound design through project management, scope of project and vision for pre-production, production and post-production.
• Manage multiple audio and video projects of various types simultaneously while assuming different roles.
• Produce market-ready materials with focus on audio for picture, live production and broadcast including mixing, editing, capture, script-writing, casting and budgeting.
• Create a business plan for entrepreneurial, freelance and corporate work in the fast-paced audio-post production field.

This program is structured for individuals with previous BIM experience who are looking to expand their knowledge in a rapidly growing sector of the AEC industry. Courses will explore current industry topics such as, BIM Implementation and Procurement, BIM Management and Workflows; BIM Integration (Clash Detection; Reality Capture) and Collaboration using BIM tools among many other relevant items. These courses will provide the student with greater insight in the world of BIM and Integrated Practice methods for the construction sector.

• Develop an implementation plan for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) in the Architecture, Engineering, and/or Construction industries.
• Formulate strategies for leadership and personnel management, and apply team building skills in an interdisciplinary setting to develop collaborative design and construction solutions.
• Analyze BIM processes and execute appropriate BIM management techniques to facilitate Integrated Project Delivery from project conceptualization to facilities management.
• Conduct project risk analysis using BIM and IPD processes to optimize project outcomes for all stakeholders.
• Deploy BIM computer platforms to create virtual building information models and generate presentation elements.
• Integrate various suites of BIM applications into project design, construction, and facilities management to improve the transfer of information between different disciplines and during all phases of a building's life cycle.

This program is a two-year, four level program that will ready graduates for jobs in growth areas of electrical engineering technology such as electrical contracting, factory automation, power line maintenance and process control. Students will study electrical fundamentals, automation, power generation/distrubution and develop practical skills. Graduates will be skilled in AutoCAD, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, PLCs and industrial automation. Throughout the program, students will apply this knowledge in conjunction with the Canadian Electrical Code, workplace health and safety and project management applications. Additionally, students will enhance their interpersonal and communication skills.

The Advanced Filmmaking program is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program which builds upon the students previous diploma/degree skills by providing opportunities to work in cross-functional teams to create both narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media. All phases of digital filmmaking will be experienced, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Students will collaborate with students in other College programs (television, acting, fashion, multimedia, music industry arts) in the creation of digital media products.

• Create narrative and documentary films, television productions, and other media (such as webcasts) that illustrate the application of aesthetic and theoretical principles of filmmaking;
• Identify and develop stories and scripts for narrative and documentary films and other media, for both general and specific audiences;
• Plan and apply appropriate pre-production techniques to prepare for the efficient and cost-effective production of narrative and documentary films and other media;
• Produce and direct narrative and documentary films and other media to commercial, technical, legal and ethical standards by working independently or in a crew;
• Operate digital cameras, audio, editing and lighting equipment during the creation of documentary and narrative films and other media.
• Produce market-ready narrative and documentary films and other media by collaborating with post-production experts;
• Plan media-marketing/distribution strategies for a variety of venues and formats;
• Lead co-workers and others in all phases of film development, through the application of superior communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving skills.

Business Fundamentals - Entrepreneurship is a one-year Ontario College Certificate program.  This customized program is designed specifically for the novice entrepreneur and will provide graduates with the knowledge required to plan, start and manage their own small business.  Through the program curriculum, students explore alternatives for starting a business, such as franchising and taking over the family firm, as well as financing options.  The Business Fundamentals -Entrepreneurship program gives students insight into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship and assist students in acquiring the skills for long-term management of the business and their development as entrepreneurs.  Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, students prepare a comprehensive business plan intended to help students launch their own business upon graduation.

This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program will provide students with the specialized knowledge and skills required for a career in aircraft maintenance and repair.  The curriculum is designed around the standardized quality management system for the aerospace industry (AS9100) to prepare graduates for a work environment that adheres to that system's requirements.  Practical elements of Aerospace Manufacturing skills, work-environment readiness, safety management systems, materials handling and tooling will be the focus of this Graduate Certificate. The program will be delivered in a face-to-face (web-facilitated) format.

This graduate certificate program is designed to prepare students to teach English as a Second (or Foreign) Language in Canada and/or overseas.  The program covers topics integrating theoretical, pedagogical, and practical applications for teaching English as a second or foreign language, meeting educational standards set by TESL Ontario.  Additionally, this program includes courses to enhance professional and intercultural communication skills, knowledge, and experience.
