Overview

Personal Support Worker is a two level program leading to an Ontario College Certificate.  Graduates, as entry-level unregulated workers, have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide personal care and home management services to clients in both community and institutional settings.

Personal Support Workers work with clients who are stable and who have clearly identified needs that are not expected to change significantly. They work under the supervision of care/service teams (which include nurses and other regulated or non-regulated care providers) as well as under the direction of the client.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Work within the personal support worker role in community, retirement homes, long-term care homes and/or hospital care settings* in accordance with all applicable legislation and employer's job description, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Act responsibly and be accountable for own actions while recognizing the boundaries of knowledge and skills within the personal support worker role that require collaboration with the clients, families, supervisors and/or other members of the interprofessional care/service team*.

This eight-month intensive Ontario College Graduate Certificate program in GIS, prepares graduates for employment in a wide range of land-based industries that utilize spatial and tabular data. The program is project-based, software-intensive, interdisciplinary, and focused on building flexible, current, high-end applied skills.  Students will gain mastery of foundational GIS skills and apply leading-edge techniques in GIS Science to create spatial solutions. Professional Accounting is a three level program that enables students from any undergraduate discipline to complete a graduate certificate in Accounting.
Upon completion of the program, students will have completed all entry and technical courses of the Advanced Certificate in Accounting (ACAF) offered by CPA Canada.  Students will still need to complete four applied courses which are offered through Part-Time Studies at Fanshawe College. The ACAF program is the only standardized national education program in Canada for intermediate accounting positions.  Students that complete the program will also be eligible for some exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Courses will be enriched with hands-on integrated technology applications and case studies based on real-world scenarios. Interior Decorating is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in one of the many segments of the residential interior decorating field. Students will study the fundamentals of interior decorating, including space planning, colour theory, material selection, kitchen and bath design and visual merchandising. Students will build interpersonal, communication, sales, business and marketing skills. Drawing, presentation and drafting techniques (both manual and computer-aided) will be developed. The Honours Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning offers integrated learning based on the theory and practice of landscape architecture, planning and urban design. The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for contextual analysis and evaluation and computer-aided design for visualization is emphasized and taught. The program has artistic and scientific appeal. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of environmental design and planning complemented by advanced technical design and communication skills. They use those skills and associated knowledge to creatively and effectively explore, analyze, conceptualize and present design and planning problems, opportunities, ideas and solutions. Sustainability is a principle for action - a comprehensive design and planning goal related to ecological, economic, socio-cultural and aesthetic dimensions of a place. It is advocated and upheld through applied project and community-based learning.

Academic projects, four work terms and a compulsory co-op placement give students the chance to apply their integrated learning and gain valuable practical experience. An academic exchange through a university in Curitiba, Brazil is available to senior students.
